But we that live in Fairyland
No sickness know, nor pain;
I quit my body when I will,
And take to it again.
~
Our shapes and size we can convert
To either large or small,
An old nut-shell’s the same to us
As is the lofty hall.
~
We sleep in rose-buds soft and sweet,
We revel in the stream,
We wanton lightly on the wind,
Or glide on a sunbeam.

The Kern Baby, a Northumberland tradition. The latter photo from Sir Benjamin Stone’s Pictures (1906). “The Kern was a custom of the festival of Ceres once observed in Northumberland, UK, at the close of the reaping. Once the last sheaf was cut this effigy—with white dress, colored ribbons and head of corn earswas brought out to preside over the harvest festivities“ (@publicdomainreview)
As will be noted from the first three photos, this takes place on St. John’s Eve, June 23 marking the nativity of St. John the Baptist, traditionally observed six months before that of Jesus.

Here is a nice hymn, it consists of two short verses, the words, I believe, were written by Samuel Longfellow, who was, apparently, a brother of the well-known poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:-
~
Again, as evening’s shadow falls,
We gather in these hallowed walls;
And vesper hymn and vesper prayer
Rise mingling on the holy air.
~
O God, our Light! To Thee we bow,
Within all shadows standest Thou:
Give deeper calm than night can bring;
Give sweeter songs than lips can sing.
~
