“THIS QUARTER QUELL, as you all know,” president ozai’s voice boomed from the television, commanding our attention. my mother sat beside me, her unkept nails digging into the plush sofa. i always thought it strange that such a massive voice could come from such a small man. of course, on a screen, with the capitol’s highest esteemed camera crews, the man was a towering, almost statuesque figure.

it was only in person that it became evident just how small, how frail and run down the esteemed president was. not many people knew that, not in the districts, anyway. no, that was my secret, one i shared only with the other two victors within my district, one that i held close to my heart. seeing the man as the small, useless monster he was allowed me to fear him less, almost pity him in a way.

i snapped my attention back to the screen, where ozai was announcing the twist for this years quarter quell. i wished i could just shut the television off, avoid the torture of reliving my time in the arena. it would be futile, though, even if i could. my duty now, and for the rest of my life, would be to mentor the new tributes from my district. to prepare them to be sent off to their own slaughter.

“for this year’s quarter quell,” the president drawled, dragging out every word. “tributes will be selected from each districts remaining victor pool.”

the world around me seemed to stop as the words sunk in, embedded themselves in my bones, infiltrated my very being.

i was the districts only female victor. and i was going back in.

Suzanne collins wrote a trilogy where a main media propaganda strategy was to market a horrific act of violence as a love story to distract ppl and then it got adapted into a box office breaking movie and ppl made it all about the love triangle. so then since they didn’t get the point the first time Suzanne collins wrote a prequel story about the main dictator and she makes it so that you as a reader want it to be a genuine love story so badly even tho it’s so very clearly not and instead feels extremely unsettling to make her point even more meta which then gets adapted into another box office breaking film and now ppl are making romantic snowbaird tik toks. do u think she’s gonna write another book that’s somehow even more blatant or just give up and start executing ppl? hard to say but I wouldn’t blame her for the second one

Merry Christmas!

Hello! A few years ago I posted a fic called Merry and Bright on ffn. Due to that site sort of shutting down/being less navigatable/less popular, I moved all my fics over to Ao3 and now that is primarily where I post/read fics. I didn't move Merry and Bright over when I switched everything else, idk why, but I decided to do it now!!!

I have spent the last few weeks editing and revising this fic and I hope you check it out!

It is a White Christmas poto AU, where Erik and Raoul are Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, respectively, and Christine and Meg are Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. White Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie, and I obviously love Phantom, so it was so exciting to bring these two worlds together. It is not my finest work, but it was fun to write and that's what matters.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and that they have a happy new year!

WE ARE STILL FIGHTING.

This is not over because SCOTUS made a ruling in 2015. As we have seen in an alarming number of cases in recent years, SCOTUS has no problem overturning previous decisions or making rulings that contradict past cases.

As a young member of the queer community, I respect my elders and their sacrifices. Celebrate our victories as a community and then continue to insist on the right to an equal existence. I wish my peers would understand that our work is not finished. Many do, and I do not wish to discredit them. This goes to show the lack of queer history taught in schools, as many do not understand what marriage involves beyond living with someone you love.

there’s this tweet that was like “y’all fought for marriage equality just to be in open relationships” and i know it’s kinda a joke or whatever but it makes me so sick. young queers are so busy respectability politicking and hating open relationships and polyamory that they’re willing to minimize the real reasons for the marriage equality fight. Like hello??? Think about all the husbands during the aids crisis who couldn’t see their man because the family took over as next of kin or bury him because he had no legal rights as his partner? Think about all the partners who can’t share health benefits, or adopt or file taxes together. Who cares if they fuck other people on the weekend. Legal protections matter despite whatever your feelings on marriage as an institution or the sanctity of monogamy. it still matters. I hateee seeing young people joke about and take for granted things our elders needed.
