max is nb, but semi-closeted meaning he wouldn’t deny it if you asked him, but also hasn’t told a single soul

#he presents solely masculine in public because of his Specific line of work #it's safer & easier #especially because he's right on that line of being powerful but not really? feared?#because he's so discreet about how he goes about obtaining power & moving up the ladder #but if he was w/ someone he trusted in private you'd see a change in behavior

I’m still trying to work out what kind of backstory I want for maximilien, but I’m toying around with the idea that he won his monaco casino in a game w/ the previous owner. he probably spent a long time sucking up to them first and then faked that he was in some kind of financial trouble & acted desparate enough to make the previous owner feel safe enough to gamble with him (off the books) even though max is an omnic

#like i imagine he'd start out with getting a job at the casino #and publicly become friends with the owner so that when he wins the casino #(which... only a small group of people would KNOW that they played for it bc omnics aren't allowed to play)#it doesn't seem totally out of place that the previous owner would retire and let max take over #and the previous owner would obviously be a human #i like this idea bc max is essentially... fooling the casino owner in the same manner that casinos fool their customers

#and seeing as omnics aren't allowed to gamble in casinos #(''how's lady luck treating you tonight?'' ''you know there's no such thing as luck. otherwise they might actually let us play the games.'')#they don't say it explicitly but I think what max meant by 'us' was omnics? but obviously i could be wrong. that's just how i interpreted it #ANYWAY if we go with that interpretation #his involvement w/ talon and akande could be explained as him gambling #which explains why he's so quick to cooperate in the storm rising event #he has no real loyalty to talon #he's gambling about who's gonna come out on top #but he has to get involved because if he just stayed on the sidelines he wouldn't be able to win/lose anything #and gambling isn't fun when nothing's at stake
