Audio
On the 2nd go ‘round watching Supernatural, I cued into this theme, but didn’t connect it specifically to Dean. It just seemed to be under scenes of poignancy. Will be more aware as I continue watching. (Currently S9E2).
Dean’s Theme (Americana excerpt) - Jay Gruska and Christopher Lennertz
Dean’s theme shows up multiple times throughout the series in different variations, and it wrecks me every time. I cut out the one iteration of Dean’s theme from the soundtracks, located in the middle of the track Americana, and strung it together twice. Enjoy the feels~

A writer’s mantra! Thanks!
How to write a character-driven plot
Tumblr media
The Character-Driven Plot Wheel
1. Emotions drive actions.
Make your hero act on their deepfelt emotions. This not only adds meaning to their actions, but also helps communicate to readers your hero’s core emotional struggle.
2. Actions trigger consequences.
When your hero acts, give their actions consequences that affect the plot, themselves, and/or the surrounding characters. For example, driven by curiosity, maybe your hero opens Pandora’s box; maybe they act recklessly and someone dies; or maybe they stand up for what they believe in, but at great personal cost. Consequences raise the stakes and empower your hero with agency.
3. Consequences compel change.
Use the consequences of your hero’s actions to create a crucible of growth — challenges and situations that force them to take the next step on their character journey. That step may be forward, or backward, and it may be large or small; but something inside them changes.
4. Change influences emotions.
When a character goes through a change, even a small one, allow it to affect them emotionally. Maybe they feel increasingly frustrated or guilty. Maybe they’re afraid, having just taken another step closer to abandoning their old way of seeing the world. Or maybe they finally feel peace.
Regardless of the form it takes, remember to reflect your hero’s change in their emotions. Then let their emotions drive action, to trigger consequences, which will compel further change.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
And there you have it! That’s how you write a character-driven plot.
So what do you say?
Give the wheel a spin.

“When I was 6, my family had almost no money. My parents had both lost their jobs, and they had separated from one another. My mom was not yet getting any government assistance and we barely had cash for staple groceries. At that point, we were poor enough that my brother and I were probably not going to get much in the way of Christmas presents. And then, a mother of a boy in my first grade class somehow noticed our need and gave my mother $100 to buy gifts for us. She wasn’t a mom who had a lot of money herself, but it was a very generous gift and made a huge impact on us. Not only did we get some material delights that Christmas, but I’m still talking about this gesture more than three decades later. I’m still moved by the kindness of a woman whose name I can’t remember. And more than that, when I was working on founding Random Acts and thinking about what I wanted its mission to be, I couldn’t stop thinking about this small act and how it had stayed with me. I couldn’t shake the feeling that small acts of kindness can have a huge and lasting impact. So here I find myself: A well-to-do grownup with two little kids, having to be gently reminded to stop and notice those struggling around me.” -Misha Collins

christian_lagasse: So if anyone watched supernatural last night, you might of noticed a certain tap dance performed by the coolest of cool @jensenackles & @djqualls ⭐ Originally, due to a very limited rehearsal schedule, myself & another dancer were hired as their dance doubles. But these guys were truly commited to learning this dance, and they brought it to life all by themselves!!!Very proud. 🏆 As someone once said, Tap ain’t easy 😉.A huge congrats and thank you to our amazing Choreographer @gordon.hart for allowing us to be a part of the workshop & rehearsal process, and in his absence, for trusting us to run a full rehearsal with the lead cast!!.Certainly an unforgettable experience.Congrats on 15 seasons. @cw_supernatural#SuperNatural [x]

gordon.hart: I had a blast creating this for @djqualls and @jensenackles . They learned this in an hour and only had one other 2 hour rehearsal to practice. Originally no rehearsal time was allotted in production schedule so dance doubles were hired but Jensen and DJ pulled it off. Great job guys. Tap ain’t easy. You blew me away. #Supernatural#Choreographer@go2talent
