Back to work/Plans for summer:
Some time ago I mentioned throught the game's page that I'd be busy until early/mid June.
I now finally have time to go back to working on the game and I'd like to share what I'll be focusing on in the early future:
I have to upgrade the game's dialogues. However I'm not sure wether I should or shouldn't prioritise this since I've only gotten scarce feedback on the game so far and I'm not sure if most will really be bothered by the fact the game is written in a direct style.
I'm currently focusing on the 2nd month of the game "Late Summer", where fighting lessons are unlocked.

I have to excuse myself for this month. I posted the DEMO at the start of the month and a few days later I started with exams and suffered the consecuences of a nasty surgery recovery.
At the moment I'm rewriting the dialogues (which is turning my hair gray)
I shoud have time this next two weeks for this. Other than that I have to implement the "Shop" button during freetime.

February Devlog Recap:
06/02/25:
I'm fixing what I said I'd fix at the end of January.
Also I'm not sure how I manage but everytime there is a character missing (be it an icon, a dialogue...) it's always Cixilo.
I was worried It would be hard for me to get back to working on CKE consistently after this... mess of a month January has been, but I'm doing good.
In theory, adventures are unlocked during the second in-game year, but for the small DEMO I'm prepairing it's going to be available in the second month.
My plans rn are to implement adventures, fix the game's economy and touch up the dialogues; in that order 👍
07/02/25:
I'm working on adventures:
I drew a map with different routes to follow during them (I've scaled it and it's ready to be implemented).
I've made the option accesible during Late Summer. Now I have to replace the placeholder text and add the route selection screens.
08-09/02/25:
I'm working on the forest and river adventures
I will probably not have time to work next week.
12/02/25:
I should be resting but I really have to make up for January. I'm not working a lot today but I'm doing a few small things, all adventure related.
I should really figure out the economy and inventory... and someone is going to have to delete those ugly tailor shop outfits...
(Me, it's going to be me...)
2-3 years using ren'py and I've finally understood how 'return' works
I've been sick until a few days ago, that's why I'm posting this a month later than I should 😤😭

January Development Notes
10/01/25:
Ok I have been suuuper sick these past days, practically on my deathbed (my tummy hurt), so I have nothing to report before today.
11/01/25:
I have 9 out of 12 free time scenes for the first month.
15/01/25:
It's been 4 days and I've only managed to write another scene (10/12).
Other than that I've drawn some (11) of the different "enemies" you can find when you decide to embark on a journey.
Finally I filled in some of the "Places" entries of the Diary.
25/01/25:
This month is being absolutely fruitless. Ihave to fix the indoor freetime activities and the sleep animation for Early Summer. I have exams next month so I do not think I'll manage to advance until February (Which tbf isn't looking great either, I have a surgery scheduled and a few events. At this point I may have to put back the DEMO release.)

Owen's design's evolution
I had a lot of trouble figuring out how the characters should look like in the game during the first year of development.
In the beginning I wanted characters to simply appear in a little window inside the textbox, like they do in Princess Maker 2 (The main inspiration for this game), but I only started drawing after my colleague and I had decided we wanted character sprites in the game.
Owen's design hasn't changed much (except when he had a totally different design somewhere between the 4th and 5th sprites... But that design was reused for Anhelo's character).
He started looking more prince-like..., then leaned more towards his jester-y side... Finding a balance between Prince-blank-protagonist and Jester-charismatic-protagonist has been (and still is) a hard task.
Some of my acquaintances feel sad I discarded having sprites in the game and instead decided on making it a text-based game with few portraits. I understand it can be disappointing for us who are so used to Visual Novel Games, but I'm more than happy with the style I've chosen, for I don't think I would have known how to make a sprite pop over a background without having them feel foreign to the other.
I know my reach is limited but I still would like to ask what anyone who sees this thinks about my resolution or about any of the earlier sprites. I've grown to love each version, so I'm happy I found a good excuse to share them.
