i actually have a jewish!mav agenda. his mom was jewish. she died when he was a kid, and foster care doesn't teach him anything about it but he knows. it's in the back of his mind with his dead parents. and maybe, way later, he meets ice. ice's jewishness comes up and he tenses, all "got a problem with that?" and mav, for the first time of his life, goes: "me too."

idk, something about him (re)discovering his culture with ice who grew up in a more traditional family & going to hebrew school. both of them becoming more invested in traditions by sharing them together.

You ever write a line that you’re really proud of because of the future of your fic but no one else picks up on it? Me neither…

Ice and Maverick both being “outsiders” that will never quite fit in but handling it in different ways is so special to me. Ice making up for it by being perfect so even if no one likes him, at the end of the day he can ice them out and pretend that he feels superior. Maverick knowing that nothing he does will be good enough so he lashes out and does the flybys and is a menace to pretend it doesn’t bother him. You know?

my favorite icemav moment is right after Ice calls Mav dangerous for the first time and Mav goes “Thats right! Ice… man,” because in the pause Mav could not be more obviously checking him out. Like his eyes flick over Ice’s whole body and he’s touching his shoulder and then the “man” is so much quieter and like distracted

Like you can visibly see Mavs mind gay panicking

“Thats right! Ice *holy shit this guys so handsome oh my god and hes built too i can feel his shoulder muscles through his uniform and damn hes so tall and look at those legs for days oh my god*… man”

and then his tone gets much more flirty and he doesnt back out of ice’s space for a moment like

Things that are canon to me:

-Mav refuses to get drivers license

-Rooster calls Ice “Icepop”

-Mav called Bradley “baby goose” when he was little, but stopped after Goose’s death

-Ice is a gay man

-Mav does pretty good at hiding his accent, but says “y’all” once and all the flyboys bully him for it
