So many people say they don’t like roleplaying high INT characters in D&D or other TTRPGs because they as the player do not feel smart enough to play them.
So I’m here today to give y’all some tips on ways to *sound* smart
-Intelligent people almost always fancy themselves as very clever. The best way to show this is by saying in 20 words what could have been said in 3.
Ex: Instead of “this is a bad idea” try something like, “I can’t say I would have recommended this course of action, but perhaps there is some other reason to be doing it that you’ve been keeping a secret from all of us.”
-When in doubt, use big words. When in double doubt, use big words that you’ve made up
Ex: Instead of, “I may be small but I’m smart.” Try something like, “Do not let my diminutive stature befoggle you. My loquaiety is merely a byproduct of the vastness of my quadressence”
-Have a hyperfixation for your character that is traditionally nerdy. Maybe they love to read ancient texts in a dead language. Or maybe they make potions and dyes. Perhaps even someone who is constantly making tiny things with their hands. However you do it, make that a focal point of your presence and whenever anyone shows interest you can pivot into the last step…
-Decide if you want to be sweet and enthusiastic, cryptic, or smug about your areas of expertise. Let that guide how you react to other players and the GMs scenarios. You’re high INT not high WIS, so it’s not likely that you can “dumb down” your work. So do you overexplain in excitement or do you just tell people “You wouldn’t get it”? The world is your oyster
No go forth and fool the realms into thinking you’re a real smartypants

This reminds me of how Maria Dahvana Headley’s retranslation of Beowulf literally starts with the narrator saying “Bro”
The theory that most of the words Shakespeare is credited with "inventing" are really just contemporary youth slang, and Shakespeare's plays are merely the earliest surviving sources that wrote them down is fascinating because of how that interacts with his use of historical and folkloric sources in his plays. Like, imagine a version of The Green Knight where King Arthur calls Gawain "cringe".

Has Fantasy as a film and television genre finally gotten big enough that people can start telling original stories rather than adaptations? It isn't that adaptations need to stop. But moreso the problem that almost every adaptation out there is always on a secret hidden countdown timer of "faithfulness" to the source material before it just turns into high budget fan fiction

In a year when God of War: Ragnarok and Elden Ring came out it feels really odd to be telling everyone that they need to actually be playing an indie RPG called Chained Echoes
But it’s the truth. It’s like if Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy Tactics had a baby with Neon Genesis Evangelion
If that sounds awesome to you then, congrats, you’re the target audience for the best retro RPG in years

As I've gotten older I've learned the secret to enjoying things is just to accept that some stuff sucks and love it anyway Take, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword for example That is not a particularly good movie, but if you move past trying to *expect* it to get good and just lean in, it's a hell of a good time The best part is that this doesn't erase or minimize your personal taste. If you hate something then you'll hate it even after accepting that it isn't good. It just lets you relax and take something for what it is, instead of what you expect it to be And, truthfully, I think that's the way we should treat each other too Anyway, stream King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and if you feel like it tell me about your favorite shitty movie
