this song is based off of a poem in j.d.m.’s ( @poetryandthesea ) new book “Poetry and the Sea”! the book is such a beautiful read(i have literally read over each poem at least ten times and i’m not exaggerating), so i couldn’t help but try to make one of her poems a song!

In the dead of night I want to call you so we can dance to the sound of our silence.

As I grow more and more tired the things I say aloud make less and less sense, while the words I write seems to fall onto the paper faster and faster with more clarity that I ever could seem to muster.

Having such a realistic nightmare made me wish I remembered all of them. Maybe then I wouldn’t repeat so many of the mistakes I make in real life.

I feel relief in that I can laugh in what gave me so much pain before.

Every time we go down I remember the pattern. The soon tangible relief that will engulf me as we go back up again. The story arch that always end in happiness. That this will soon pass, and will also soon happen again.

They looked around nervously, “So why are were doing this again?” I cracked my knuckles, loosening my body in preparation. “Because you said we couldn’t.” They sighed, “And why exactly does that mean that we have to this?” “Because you keep drawing lines where there aren’t any.”

We were two people that couldn’t possibly be more different: You were a devoted church member, I laughed in the face of god. You found energy in the company others, I found it in their absence. You believed in happy endings, I thought reality was a bitch. And yet for some reason, when we were together we were one person.
