Starkid is one of the absolute best arguments for independent art. The fact that the shows you're invested in can't get canceled by Big Daddy Streaming, the quality is always amazing, the love of the cast and crew doesn't get squeezed out by surprise budget reductions, the fact that since crowd funding provides almost all costs up front (plus the presence of voluntary digital ticket/in person tickets for additional funding), the fan base can access the full material for whatever cost they can contribute (even if you can give nothing monetarily, you will still get a professionally shot version of the material eventually, without surprise fees or password crackdowns, AND with captions/completely accesible regardless of location). The same goes for Tin Can Bros, Shipwrecked, and all the other associated theater and web series companies loosely connected to Starkid. Like, I cannot believe the amazing content provided to us at the same level as Broadway or streaming services with billion dollars at hand, with almost none of the catches that come with others. Like, I cannot believe that we get all of this right at our hands.

Been seeing a bunch of Dracula discourse recently so thought I'd take the opportunity to once again let everyone know about Friends Til The End, a Mina & Lucy duet:

I had a busy week so I didn't end up watching Headless until today, and just...
Oh my god.
My expectations for Shipwrecked projects could not possibly be higher, but still...
Oh my god.
Those first two episodes are hands down the best scripted content of any kind that I've seen in a long time. From the very start I was in absolute awe of the production quality and I'm so so so glad it won the award it did at Buffer because if I found out that award existed and this hadn't won it, I would have been ready to riot. I'd actually expected to find the musical interludes a little annoying because I'm not usually a fan of that unless it's a full on musical, but they're so very charming, and they fit in so well that it feels almost natural. The costumes and how everyone looks is amazing, the Kat and Ichabod chemistry is incredible (obviously it always is, because Mary Kate and Sean, but I feel like we've never seen them play characters who flirt with each other in this way before and I love it), the writing is witty and amazing as always, I just...
I love this show so much and I'm so so excited for more, and already dreading the idea of it being over.

*grabs mic and fumbles with it slightly*
OK but listen,, the thing that to me is so terrifying about Inevitable is... everything but namely:
The really really clever use of lighting / camera angles on the recorded ver to make it look like Emma was completely isolated from and separate from the group, almost like she was photoshopped in. The contrast is mwah and really drives home just how entirely alone she is in this moment.
Someone in the YouTube comments mentioned that Paul really doesn't smile all that much throughout the musical, so to have him so 'happy' here is just uncanny as all shit.
The really clever subversion of a curtain call at the end. This is supposed to be the point where all the actors spring up like 'haha! we're not actually dead dw!' and that (kinda but not really cause its implied the hive is just playing pretend) happened! just, not to Emma. her frantically screaming to the audience and then directly implicating them in the story by having them ignore her cries for help means that the barrier between audience and performer is never entirely restored, just kinda, slapped back together with some flex tape. shits freaky man. I was legit so uncomfortable because the entire scene was so jarring, but the worst part (in the best possible way) for me was the audience involvement. in a musical whose message is partly about not submitting to something bigger than you for what you deem 'the greater good', having an audience laugh uncomfortably at a character in order to make them as a collective feel better is
So. Freakin. Cool.

GET TO KNOW ME MEME. ↳ 3/10 actors ★ lauren lopez.
and then [mia in la la land] throws a fit about having struggled for six whole years to be an actor and maybe she should just quit ‘cause nothing’s happened in six years. i kinda tuned out after that, i was a little mad.
