Process Book #9
We are in the final stage of our project. This week our team spent time reflecting on the process and developing out our presentation.
It was interesting to go through the process of revisiting the early stages of our project and look at what has changed and what stayed the same. We got to take a big step back and reassess some things.
We also found some new resources and stats that helped defend our project.
We are excited to present our project today and hear the final presentations from our peers.

Process Book #8
We are now in the Evaluation phase of our problem solving process. Our group is just beginning this phase and will be using class time to assess our project and begin evaluating it. We will be looking at what goals we can measure (like return users, positive reviews, activity feedback, etc), and also what we could improve on. I expect there will be some areas we begin to iterate on our project as well.
We will also begin looking for feedback from our peers. The feedback we received from the last class was very helpful - it helped us hone in on what features they would really like to see and narrow down our focus.

Process Book 7
This week we completed our business canvas model, and created UI mockups for key screens and a storyboard.
Our team spent some time as a group brainstorming and mapping out the projects before dividing and conquering. We all then spent time reviewing each other’s work and providing feedback before packaging the final assignments.
Some interesting points were raised while going through the Business Model Canvas exercise - you can see below, but it helped us flesh out some of the revenue drivers and potential costs.
Working through the user story also helped us create a journey for one of our travelers. This process helped all of us visualize what the actual interactions of the app would be and at times helped us cut features that we realized were a little unnecessary.
Here is the link to our deck.

This week our team looked at “Choosing a Solution” as part of this effort, we created 3 Sacrificial Concepts (attached in subsequent posts). These concepts will be presented to our class this week, and after receiving feedback we will select the final solution.

Process Book 5 - Brainstorming
This week our group honed in on 3 “How Might We” Questions and focused on brainstorming around those. It was interesting to see pockets of similar features and services come out of those discussions and processes.
Our three questions were:
How might we help people with similar tastes connect with each other?
How might we assess a traveler’s priorities to enable a curated list of things to do?
How might we consider the ratio of local vs sightseeing experiences so travelers can maximize their foreign travel experience?
A desire for a personalization algorithm, user profiles for vetting people’s tastes, and a way to provide feedback to the system were common topics that came up. It will be interesting to see how our group hones in on the product over these next few weeks.

Problem Definition (group)
Addison
Insight: People like to experience as much of a city as possible when they visit
HMW Questions: How might we help a traveller make the most of their time when they visit a city they know little about?
Insight: People want to have a more authentic experience in a new city but that is hard to do if you don’t know locals.
HMW Question: How might we help a traveller connect with locals so they can have a more authentic experience?
Insight: People want recommendations on what to do in a new city from someone who knows their tastes.
HMW Question: How might we personalize a traveller’s experience so they don’t waste time doing things they won’t enjoy?
Addison’s Problem Definition: Visitors to a new city need a way to have an authentic experience that is personalized to their tastes so that they don’t waste time doing touristy things they won’t enjoy.
Max
Insight:Most tour guides have the same recommendations for all travelers.
HMW Questions: How might we connect individuals with others of similar interests so when they travel they can get more personal recommendations.
Insights: Many people have different online personas vs real life personas.
HMW Questions: How might we assess a traveler’s priorities to enable a curated list of things to do.
Insights: Cities change quickly, locals value being “in the know” about finding a new gem.
HMW Questions: How might we compel locals to share parts of their life to complete strangers?
The problem: Travel recommendations are not curated to the interests of the end user.
Looking at the competitive analysis of all the other travel sites there is no way to filter through the recommended places to visit. There is categorical data, like price, location, type of service but none are directed at the end user. With the wealth of knowledge about the user already existing via social networking there is the capability to match people with people or places who share interests/ life styles.
Ting
Insight: People have different tastes and values. It is hard to find people with common interests and similar tastes.
HMW Questions: How might we help people with similar tastes connect with each other?
Insight: People enjoy different activities when visiting a new city.
HMW Questions: How might we help visitors find the right activity for them in a new city?
Insight: People have different budgets for travelling.
HMW Questions: How might we suggest the best experience within visitors’ budgets?
Problem Definition:
It is hard for visitors to discover a wide-range of places and activities in a new city, and hard to know which ones are the right ones to them within budgets. It is also difficult to create opportunities for people with similar tastes to meet offline.
We need a platform that knows each person’s interest and makes smart suggestions based on different tastes and budgets, and connects people with similar tastes to double the fun.
Nana
Insight: People have varying time and costs thresholds depending on the activity and location.
HMW Questions: How might we include variables like time and costs so travelers can figure out the activities they want to experience?
Insight: Travelers want to maximize their experiences by prioritizing certain activities (mixing both local vs sightseeing opportunities) to a ratio they prefer.
HMW Questions: How might we consider the ratio of local vs sightseeing experiences so travelers can maximize their foreign travel experience?
Insight: Tourists want to propose recommended sights, locations, or experiences based on their tastes?
HMW Questions: How might we recommend sights, locations and/or experiences so travelers can travel in (or out) of their comfort zone.
Problem Definition:
Build a recommendation engine that ingests a lot of factors about a location, experience or sight with flexible variables like time and costs so travelers can maximize their trip abroad based on their preferences and profile information.
Consensus Problem Definition

We have learned that visitors to a new city aren't having personalized experiences tailored to their tastes and interests, causing them to waste time or money and miss out on things they would enjoy. How might we create a platform so that visitors to a new city can easily find things to do they know they will enjoy?
