this but also it’s something that ALL of the show does. i only realized this upon rewatch but aside from the scenes in the first episode with paul and his family, there is not a SINGLE episode in season 1 in which louis does not suffer mentally, physically, or both. of course it’s okay to portray the reality of what life in the 1920s would have been like for a black biracial queer vampire, but the narrative does not centre any autonomy that louis may have held, and instead frames the abuse he faces from lestat as something, while terrible on lestat’s part, ultimately romantic, erotic, and forgivable. if you think this is not something the show endorses, just look at how many white fans on ao3 are actively writing loustat fic with a happy ending as if lestat is not his abuser - and then look at what happens in the show itself at the end of season 2. lestat is forgiven, claudia is dead before which we see both her and louis tortured graphically, armand is the one run out despite never having abused louis on the same level as lestat (i don’t give a shit what happened in the books), and no one is held accountable for claudia’s death. i will be the first to admit there is accuracy and at least some thoughtfulness behind the portrayal of dv in episode 4, but i want you to ask yourself - did the wounds have to be so graphic? did lestat have to have the last word? did they have to forgive lestat within one episode (not even)? couldn’t the message have been communicated without perpetuating the overconsumption & fetishization of black pain? for me, the answer is an absolute no.

I'm watching X-Men: First Class and Darwin dying is pissing me off again. "Adapt to this" HE SHOULD!!! THAT'S WHAT HE DOES! HE ADAPTS TO SURVIVE SO HE SHOULD SURVIVE THAT! THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT! Anyway new HC, he crumbled and they thought his was dead, but his powers just decided the best chance of survival was for him not to be a main character. He's fine.
