Hello! I'm working on a research article currently that is exploring music zine history with mychem zines as a case study. Your archive has been helping a lot with seeing how zines have changed due to the digital landscape :). I was wondering, however, if you know which are the oldest zines in your archive currently? If you don't, that's ok!!

Heya! Thank you so much :D I'm also gonna tag in @void-flesh here since they have a vast physical collection and may be likely to have found some older gems that haven't crossed my dash yet!

Okay so checking the dates of posts on my blog, the oldest zine I've reblogged (aside from Gerard's own Hesitant Alien zine) is Boyzine from Jan 2015, but I don't think this counts, as it seems to be less of a music zine and more of a gender topic zine (but contains an interview from Gerard Way) .

Following that, the oldest fanzine as far as I can tell is actually my friend @shockpinkrosary 's DC Young Animal Comics zine! Again, less of a music zine though unfortunately, but very fun for fanzine study! Really talented artistry in there!

The oldest MCR specific zine I've reblogged might then actually just be the MCR Zine (if I'm counting correctly), which I actually organised myself as a teenager - there should definitely be some older solo-artist MCR zines floating around on Tumblr, but I remember starting that zine because I hadn't seen any big digital multi-collaborator zines within MCR fandom at the time, and then starting this blog because i was hoping to find out if there HAD been and if I just missed them (the mid-to-late 2010s were such a big era for big internet-based multi-collab fandom zine artbooks, I remember scouting for one for this fandom particularly). Huge breadth of talent in that zine's contributors too, though I would only get wayyy better at zine-organisation and illustration by the time I helped organise Tales from the Zones lmao. Graphic design was not yet my teen-self's strongsuit.

I could honestly be missing dates on my own blog though. Consider this an invitation for anyone to give us a shout if they find older content, I'd be THRILLED to reblog and check it out!! (The oldest zine i know of on this blog is, of course, the Gerard Way Hesitant Alien zine from 2014)

I'm partnering with the wonderful @void-flesh to bring you the My Chemical Romance Zine Challenge! Get creating with some DIY zine-ing and share your art and words with your friends! Use the tag #MCRzine or @mcrzines so that we can boost your work!

You can create a whole zine solo, or partner with friends for something collaborative :)

We encourage physical zines, but in order to make work accessible as physical copies even for people in places where shipping ain't cheap, we also encourage PRINT IT YOURSELF zines, with files set up for readers to print at home! 

Some notes: 

This is not a contest, or a time limited challenge! This is just to spark people's creativity! 

Related to above: you don’t need to submit anything to us - these are your personal projects! - but we’d love to be tagged so we can see what you made and boost your work!

Polished and professionally printed zines may be cool, but we are encouraging more DIY kinds of work. It's okay if you just have sharpies, glue, and your grandpa's busted xerox machine! Or perhaps the copy machine at your school is unattended?
