We needed "The Last Skywalker" to be resurrected and reunited with his dyad, because we believe his bloodline is very important to the continuation of the Skywalker Saga. Together, Ben and Rey will rebuild a new Jedi Order, one where attachments can be a strength not a hinderance. And they bring forth a new generation of Jedi, including their own children. We believe it was a far more interesting story to let Ben Solo atone for his sins, rather than copy-paste his grandfather's exact same fate. Redemption is cool and all, but ATONEMENT is far better! And Rey will help him do that. He will have to gain the trust of the Resistance, Rey's found family, to forge a new path for himself.
