Doctor owned and managed clinic seeking a locum for August 1-September 7/2013 (Option to stay longer term) in down town Toronto.  Doctor sees about 30-40 patients per half day shift. Flexible hours.

Brand new clinic opened in 2012 with new equipment and beds with 4 exams rooms. Paper (no EMR) based records. There is a pharmacy at the clinic site. In-house lab services (i.e. blood work). There are diagnostics clinics across the street. There is a medical office assistant who looks after reception, billing, and triage as well as experienced in lab services. Located at the main ground level and is wheelchair accessible. The clinic is located on the main commercial street within a residential community. There are two (2) exam rooms. Parking is available.

Physician Duties (responsibilities)

As the on-call Physician, you are entrusted with the responsibility of supervising the care of patients on a 27-bed acute care treatment unit (six acute and 21 sub-acute beds) and for the provision of all acute medical coverage to patients throughout the facility (nursing home, chronic hospital, rehab units). For residents who are too ill to be cared for on the units where they are located, you have the option of transferring them to the acute care treatment unit or to an acute care hospital emergency room. Should there be a cardiac arrest, there is an Emergency Response Team on site that is responsible for leading this process; however you may be required to take the lead from time to time until hand off.

A Staff Physician will be available by phone to directly supervise the afterhours duty Physician at all times. An on-call geriatrician will also be available 24/7 for backup if required.

$650/15.5 hrs shift and $1250/24 hrs shift plus OHIP billing. Internal Medicine Billing Codes: Billing Codes Internist C075 admissions, C122 second day assessment, C123 3rd day assessment, C072 stable visit, C375 intercurrent illness, C124 discharge. Family Medicine Billing Codes: C003 is admission, C122 second day after admission, C123 third day after admission, C002 daily visit in 1st 5 weeks, C007 daily visit after 5 weeks (can bill 3x/week), C121 intercurrent illness, C124 discharge.

About the Hospital/Clinic

Two walk-in medical care facilities serving the Kitchener and Waterloo area. The clinics have been in operation since 1990 and are owned and operated by five family and emergency medicine Physicians who are currently active and working at the clinics.

Between 200-225 patients at each location per day. There are two to three physicians working each shift. Atmosphere is collegial and fast paced. There are 11 examining rooms at each location. Because the clinics see a substantial number of patients who require non-OHIP services such as notes off work, WSIB, pre-employment physicals, driver's physicals and out of country patients, our gross billings are significantly higher than other comparable clinics.

Open 8-5 on weekdays and 8-3 on weekends.

Location Details

Ability to close early if the volumes are overwhelming. Patient mix is quite diverse and used to paying for certain services so that there are no arguments over fees. In addition, full service staff members are trained and efficient at triaging and preparing patients in the examining rooms.

This clinic is set up for X-rays labs, suturing, slit lamp etc and always have RNs working as well. The nurses improve your efficiency by doing all dressings, injections, ECGs, ear syringing etc. In addition, they will assess and perform vitals on many of the patients.

Physician Duties (responsibilities)

Must be comfortable in a high volume environment. Physicians treat 50-100 patients, depending on physician comfort/efficiency.
