this also extends into a longer conversation about animation consistency in media. Anime fans complaining about something being "overanimated" I think are misunderstanding what they're complaining about. It's not that too much animation is bad, it's that when animation in a series or an episode is inconsistent, it is very off putting when it isn't done with deliberation.

KLK often used simpler animation especially in the more light-hearted moments in the anime but still had really good animation in other sections. The difference I see with that and, as an example, the one piece anime is that KLK's well animated sections still had a consistency to how they were animated from one well animated scene to another, versus one piece where its more seems to be an avenue for individual animators to have their moment in the sunlight (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means its going to be preference for people who prefer consistency in the style of animations in their media.)

It goes back to the "one" scene with pain from naruto, where the animation style changed drastically. It wasn't bad animation like so many people were saying, but was it a stark change in animation that may not have been implemented optimally. additionally, to say that the animation in the sakuga sections of one piece is bad is just being disingenuous. They are VERY well animated. but would I say that the stark difference in how certain sections are animated without delibrate intention is at least somewhat jarring? yes.

seeing people trying to gaslight me into saying "the animation in king of the hill is the same" is making me go batshit insane. i can't blame them entirely because people are saying the animation is way "worse" than the original, when its more that koth was animated in traditional cel based animation and the charm of the storyboard get lost with rigged animation. I still do consider the animation in the first series better executed than the new series.

I think the point people should see is that smooth doesn't necessarily mean the animation is better, even if the average person doesnt realize it. In fact I'd arguably say that the smoothness of the rigged animation of the new koth does make it feel worse, and it often makes some of the animation feel a little jerky and inconsistent, like theyre trying to get some poorly mixed hybrid of the cel style animation and rigged animation.

to preface, rigged animation isn't bad, its just some shows execute and implement it better than others. In fact, one of my favorite shows of all time, wander over yonder, has great rigged animation that's implemented perfectly to the shows atmosphere.

I think the new koth doesn't implement its animation very well, with animation going from rigged to frame-by-frame seemingly without much rhyme of reason.

Considering that the phone is further away from Kris in the pacifist ending, I'm thinking they are growing ambivalent about their original goal and working with the knight/gaster/carol/etc., developing stronger bonds to Susie and Ralsei.

In Snowgrave, that's probably not the case. Kris keeps their phone with them on hand. More than ever theyre probably clutching onto Carol's help DESPERATELY. What we do to them and Noelle in Snowgrave probably hardens their goal with working with the knight (Kris almost getting Birdley killed, manipulating Noelle and possibly growing a soul inside her, undoing Kris's attempt at reversing that).
