sometimes improvement comes really slowly when you have a chronic illness, but it doesn’t mean your efforts are not enough or that you are a failure because healing is taking more time for than you had imagined. a little progress is better than no progress at all, and i am proud of all your efforts while enduring your illness. you are not worth any less if those efforts don’t result in a huge improvement in a short amount of time, please be patient with yourself and have compassion for your own body, its doing the best it can with the way that it is and all it has been going through

Semester 2, done.
Just wrapped up my second semester back in college! It turned out to be quite different than I expected—but in the best ways. Right now, my main goal is to stay consistent, and so far, I’ve been able to keep that steady momentum.
This week, I started exploring shadowing opportunities and already have a few lined up. I'm really excited to gain insight into different specialties—and even different professions. I've decided to branch out beyond just shadowing MDs and will also be observing a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) to broaden my perspective.
I'm taking advantage of as many local resources as possible and recently enrolled in a Patient Care Technician program that I can work through at my own pace. I’ll eventually need to complete some in-person skill labs, but the goal is to finish by summer. My hope is to build a strong foundation of clinical experience before applying to any graduate or medical programs.
I’m still keeping my options open. Seeing the burnout among some of my physician friends—and hearing their honest reflections, including some expressing regret about going the traditional med school route—has definitely given me a lot to think about.

Yesterday I got to volunteer at an event with one of my preceptors and she kept introducing me: “this is my medical student!” And it made me so unreasonably happy. Like omg. Yes. I am your medical student!
But today back onto studying for my OB shelf. I am ✨scared✨

Took me until about halfway through college before I realized “study” means “play with the material in a variety of ways until you understand it” and not just “read the assigned chapters and do the homework” and I think that probably should have been discussed at some point prior to that.

Back, 5 years later.
I’m not sure why I suddenly stopped using this account, but here I am again. Life has definitely changed since I last posted back in 2020.
Five years later, I find myself a college student once again after a long break. I spent several years focusing on work, but now I’m back at it full-time, pursuing a degree in Psychology. While finishing my degree, I’ll also be completing the prerequisites for medical school — a dream I’ve held onto for over a decade.
When I re-enrolled, I already had nearly 80 credit hours under my belt, so I’m getting closer to the finish line. Along the way, some of my other dreams, like motherhood, have come and gone. Much of the time I was away from school was devoted to trying to start a family, including years of IVF treatments due to Endometriosis. About a year ago, I made the difficult but ultimately life-changing decision to have a total hysterectomy. It wasn’t easy, but it turned out to be the best decision for my health and well-being.
Now, with the ability to shift my focus away from health struggles, I can give school the time and energy it truly requires. I’m definitely not a traditional student, but I’ve come to appreciate how much more common that path is these days.
I’m hoping to be more active on this account as I navigate the upcoming semesters. In fact, this is the last week of classes for my spring semester, so naturally, I’ve been looking ahead a bit. Of course, I’m also very much looking forward to summer break — with a full-time job on top of full-time classes, any break is something I truly welcome!
