It’s sad how much of what is taught in school is useless to over 99% of the population.

There are literally math concepts taught in high school and middle school that are only used in extremely specialized fields or that are even so outdated they aren’t used anymore!

Don't Limit Your Self Growth 📈

When I was in high school I was consistently told by teachers - mostly science and math teachers - that I wouldn't get far in the sciences. That I was stupid and undeserving.

When it was time to go to college I didn't want to go. I wanted to do WWOOFing but my parents were adamant that I attended college. I decided I wanted to do agriculture and environmental studies - focusing more on human impact. I only applied to 3 colleges for their environmental and organic farming programs. I ended up at The Evergreen State College in WA and it honestly couldn't have been a better learning environment for the type of student that I am.

After a year of taking farming classes I decided to get into the full science program and excelled in chemistry. I ended up graduating with a biochemistry major and environmental studies minor.

This lesson in life has helped me support so many of my students that have opened up that a previous teacher told them they'd never succeed in the career they were interested in. A truly educated and well versed individual would never make those remarks to adolescents that still have a lifetime of development, opportunities, and ultimately success. Don't let the disappointment of yourself influence the young.

I met with you for one intention but now I have two - both physical (and emotional). I expected a nice conversation that would lead to acro yoga yet somehow you ensnared me into a paid relationship rather than a mutual personal development of skills and hobbies. You the mentor and me the mentee. First, we grabbed Starbucks and began a walk around downtown discussing expectations and goals. I wasn't much interested in you besides to use you for my own advantage. However, halfway through our walking conversation I realised how eloquent and thoughtful you are specifically in the way you speak. My mind began churning ideas of you (and I). You had mentioned a recent break up and I thought damn maybe this is meant to become something... At the end of our walk you stayed and continued to talk to me until your next class started. We talked about professionalism in our hobbies and sports - how important it is for both of us to have personal growth in our skills and to work with individuals that are going to assist with that.
