MNiDH update (sorta)

Page 10 will be up next Saturday, for now I thought I'd share some process shots for those who enjoy that kind of thing!

The very first step for me is layout thumbnails - the bare minimum to get the angle / gesture down and figure out how to panel things. I think these are so much fun to look back on - here's the first 9 pages all together :)

(note that 'wide shot of lecture hall' note i left myself on page 8 LMAO thanks past self, I'll just figure that one out) - page-by-page comparison with the finished ones under the cut! i have done layout thumbnails for the first 25 pages which covers about... 1/3rd of the first chapter LOL we'll be here a while fellas!

Also wanted to share a bit about the background process - I set up the interior of any location that has several angles in it in justsketchme and use the screenshot feature liberally :) (any single-shot angle is usually traced over a photo with characters sketched in afterwards) Example using page 4 (enjoy the ragdoll body in the 3D setup LOL i just needed a rough reference for the pose and proportions) :

Also I use a TON of reference photos from the series for all characters since it helps me be more creative with the angles of faces etc. Pose references i usually take of myself (which leads to quite the... interesting photo roll on my phone lol)

WIP wednesday!

a closeup of the beta trio in a larger piece i'm working on (and totally over-rendering the characters in considering it's drawn over a cruncy-asf jpeg and i'm gonna have to redraw most of the wide background shot to match OOPS)

And a closeup from the comic of another panel with Heather, who I am having a lot of fun drawing ♡

Pretty busy with work these days, I have so many WIPS but most are at the same stage as last i showed them or still at the stick-figure-sketch stage (╥‿╥) I have stuff planned for most requests I received last month, sorry they're taking so long - i didn't anticipate being quite this busy!

My Name is Derek Hale page 09 - in which Stiles performs the forbidden 'scoot into a seat someone else is headed for' move in class and i find out how difficult it is to draw someone cracking their knucles.

Took some extra time to figure out how to draw Heather - next week you get some behind-the-scenes stuff, page 10(!!) should be up on July 19th!

My Name is Derek Hale page 08 - in which Stiles greatly inconveniences someone in the doorway and i log an unprecedented 17 hours on a page because i was stubborn about the last panel despite my 3D program corrupting the scene 3 times and redoing the lines 2 times ✌️

for a bit this is surprisingly accurate to how the process feels like LOL

i'm lucky to have a very vivid visual imagination when i read, making comics is pretty much just figuring out how to put a movie i'm watching in my mind's eye in panels instead :)

only downfall is i apparently really like imagining wide establishing shots with a lot of background detail which uhhhhh takes a lot of time to plan and draw!!
