it does still make me insane specifically how many queer people lovingly embrace astrology. I went to a poetry workshop yesterday that was genuinely quite good but also included an option to disclose astrology designations during introductions and so many people broke out some variation of "I'm a [x] sum but I have a [y] placement and it SHOWS" girl no it doesn't. that's meaningless correlation you completely invented the causation

the thing i'm chewing on lately tho is yukiko's arc. bc yes she's gay and we do have a boss fight about it but the thing the game actually spends more time telling us she wants is to get out. leave her shitty rural town and go somewhere else and not have to take over the shitty family business and make a life for herself. and the game walks this back too, like "no actually she's fine and she likes it here and she wants to take over the family business." in the end even the most milquetoast middle-of-the-road desire for any amount of freedom at all cannot be allowed to stand. something there about linking queerness and freedom to the specifically-economic function of the family, and how both represent an unacceptable threat.

I normally don't make posts like this but an imam in my community was just kidnapped by ICE earlier this week.

He was granted asylum 10 years ago and had his status suddenly revoked without cause in December. He's been working as the first Muslim chaplain at the local children's hospital and is an beloved faith leader and advocate in the city.

He fears for his life if he's deported to Egypt. I've called my representatives and urge other Cincinnati residents to do the same. For others, please consider donating to his legal fund.

i will never not love what patrick califa brings out in people, especially when it’s that kind of blackout anti-pedophile rage that refuses to ever hear his name spoken again. I will take the fuck-up who analyzes where he fucked up from every conceivable angle and realigns himself with an updated set of values over some untested un-besmirched saint any day of the week. erasing all mention of him erases too many vital questions for me— why did he defend what he defended? what experiences did califa had with adults as a child? what views did that give him about consent and child development? why didn’t I turn out the same way? what were the differences between what happened to us? who were WAP? what was with the anti-porn anti-sex push in the queer community in the eighties and nineties and how are those same conversations happening today? how do you talk about the choices made by queer street youth who end up predated upon by adults while still honoring their agency and dignity? why do adults have a responsibility to refuse sexual engagement with children and how is that different than asking whether or not children can consent to sex? what value does “forgiveness” really have and what technological functions does it enable? is repair always feasible? what is safety and is a community safer when it knows that redemption is possible or when it commits to expelling all wrongdoers?
