I’d like to keep my studies brief and not get TOO carried away with little details because there really are diminishing returns after a while 😅

the poses and clothing were referenced from a fast fashion site but I also tried to deviate from my references a little to challenge myself a bit 😝

Lunarena 🌒

I wanted to draw a character from a game/manhwa who lives in the deep recesses of my memories.

This is a character from an early Korean MMO that I played in the mid-2000s called Redmoon. The game was based on a manhwa series by Mina Hwang who has been dubbed the Godmother of Romance Manhwa.

I barely remember the story and tried to look for the manhwa to no avail. It looks like there were some English volumes published at some point but they were cancelled and the story was never completed. I think I found digital chapters on Naver but I can barely read Korean and had a lot of trouble setting up a Naver account 🥲 I found some information on Chinese blogs and websites but not much elaboration on the story. The game was actually ported as a mobile version not too long ago and I got to check it out. I’m surprised it’s still alive and has a player base.

If anyone out here has any leads… I just want to know how the story ends 😅

It’s 100% okay if you have no highlight reel and that all you did in 2023 was to survive. It was the same for me 🥲

I started this piece fully expecting to draw something within my comfort zone but ended up challenging myself way too much by going with a lighting and colour situation that I don’t normally work with 😅 this is a lot more neon than I’m normally used to. oh well, here’s to progress!

I salvaged an old painting from a few years ago and finally finished it 😅 I had fun with this piece but wish I could spend more time to research and study underwater environments better.

It’s been nice painting regularly again. I sprained my finger two months ago and still can’t really hold a pen or stylus too well.

The Huntress – drew this for the AdorkaChallenge #AdorkaStockDTIYS9. I had terrible art block in January, I couldn’t break out of the “ugly stage” in all of my drawings. Starting from a reference photo really helps and I eventually managed to get into a flow state.

This piece challenged me A LOT – I didn’t really have a very strong design or concept prepared for it and ended up relying on various neoclassical statues of Diana/Artemis. I constantly had to remind myself to work on the big notes rather than try to render or worry about details too soon, and it helped me finish the piece sooner. I got pushed out of my comfort zone a few times which I appreciated (it’s my first time drawing a grey hound!!!) 

Overall I feel like I could have taken the render further, but today is also the deadline to submit 😝 I’ll probably come back to it to refine things a little more after I take some rest…March is going to be a crazy month for me so I’m going to keep taking it slow and continue being kind to my body and mind 😭
