2024 year in review my art studies, paintings

I am excited about this study because I’m sorta understanding the value of underpainting. It’s kinda of the opposite color of what the viewer sees. It’s a wash which means it’s very watered-down paint.
Practicing this step is a huge improvement to the overall process. Having a guide to help you see the values and tonal changes can make a huge difference than figuring out in your own.

I recently joined a paint week workshop with Ali Kay studios. I liked her style of colorful and loose brushstrokes. Her teaching method is very organized just like her painting technique. The freedom comes when you place the brush on your canvas and can freely take any direction you want with your brushstrokes. I decided to join her art classes because I like her teaching style she has every step covered from mixing paints to color charts and composition. It’s almost very pop art influenced. I’d like to know the technique well so I can translate it to my own subjects. She is very encouraging for you to try your own subjects. For now I will sorta master the technique get comfortable with it and see what I can create and apply the knowledge to my own subject matter.

I share my process of packaging a small piece of art, with things laying around the house.
If you have art and want to know how to mail it out to friends or patrons here is a cost-effective way to do it without breaking the bank.

Omg!!!
People….I finished my 2nd attempt at this portrait…I am feeling so ecstatic and excited. There were times I doubted myself and felt lost during the process. I had to get rid of all the negative self-talk and say f**k it. Getting rid of expectations just do the exercise, and I think going over and getting a refresher on my lessons helped a lot. I like it. I took up the teacher's advice on how “the reference is at the tyranny of my desire” I want to thank the pros for sharing what you know and making it available for anyone. I gotta remind myself to just do it, don't quit keep on keeping on in this painting game…I cant wait, I truly cant wait to paint my children and the people I love❤️ or paint the people that deserve recognition.

Oh My F**ng Ggg!
I finally finished this piece, I've had this canvas lying around for a few years and now I can say I finished it. I'm proud of myself. I usually get bored or confused, challenged of a piece when I don't get the instant satisfying feeling of direction and completion. I'm dabbling with abstract expression with a twist of florals….i guess this is a celebration for the much anticipated spring.
To be honest it was hard keeping this canvas up for a few weeks, I guess that's why I'm attracted to the quickness that collage, graffiti, or pop art gives. I am glad that I was able to withstand my challenge and stick to the creative process even if it didn't take overnight. I like my results. I had gotten to the point where I didn't know what direction to take after some research and examples of other contemporary artists' works….I couldn't keep going, I didn't want to add layers of paint it was almost erasing the first marks that I made…I didn't want that for this piece, I don't want it for any of my other pieces. I think it's important to leave some kind of hint of its beginning marks. I can't wait to explore more of this style and hope it evokes some kind of positive emotion.

So I'm just getting back into my studio basement, the winter is finally led up and I've been dreaming of ethereal abstracts. This is a work in progress, I had the 1st layer of background done years ago and I had been holding onto this until I knew what direction I wanted to take it. I finally got an idea for this canvas and I like where this is going…I know this needs more of something but I think in the spirit of spring and pastel colors I will slowly emerge…. I'm excited to be openly free and have total artistic freedom. I'm using acrylics, spray paints, and oils and I'm just trying to get back on the bike with the oils, I forget how juicy they can be and how long it takes to dry…but I think I will continue to work on this piece… just have to find the right contrast for it. I'm excited I'm making this a playful light-hearted piece….maybe it could be decorative, maybe someone might want it in their home…I hope so, it's bringing me joy and I want joy for others
