Hello readers/followers, I just wanted to give a sort of update on things. I wanted to let you all know that while I have begun working on Chapter 29 of my Once-ler fanfic Visions of Greed, it may take a little while for me to finish it. Things have been a little crazy these past few weeks. My cat that I mentioned in an earlier post did indeed pass away. Then 2 weeks later my Dad found a baby stray kitten who we plan on keeping and who is keeping me somewhat preoccupied atm. But I hope to bring you all the new chapter soon-ish and eventually see the fic completed. Thank you all for your patience, understanding, and support.

Virtual Prizes From The Webkinz “The Lorax” Movie Promotion Part 1!

Did you know that around the time “The Lorax” movie came out, the virtual pet website Webkinz did a promotion to advertise the film that included virtual prizes? This was actually something that Webkinz did quite often with several movies back in the day, with some other examples being Bee Move, Arthur Christmas, and Hop.

As for the Lorax promo and prizes. I was reminded of it when I was watching The Lorax movie and I saw the scene below and thought “Huh? That helmet looks kind of familiar....”

Turns out I actually earned the helmet as a virtual prize on Webkinz years ago. (I've been playing Webkinz on and off for years.) After this discovery, I tried to get the rest of my prizes for my account.

And I eventually did! As you can see above in my Lorax room! (Except for the marshmallows which are in a fridge in another room). But it wasn't easy, although some lovely and generous players gifted me some of the items (including the bunny pjs which are probably my favorite), and I was able to get another unicycle helmet and unicycle fairly easily, (from the Kinzstyle Outlet and Webkinz Newz respectively), I had to do some serious trading for the rest. I even had to trade a retired super bed to get the squiggly sunglasses. Apparently, they are super rare because they were not properly released along with the other promo items and are still considered “unreleased” to this day, with many players unaware of their intended origin.

I'm glad I was able to get all of the items. Since there is no official Lorax movie merch, these virtual prizes were as close as I could get to having Lorax items. Also, these prizes are just plain cute and fun! The Robotic Flower even “blooms” when you click on it and then a bee pops out! Just like in the actual movie! Speaking of the movie, in part two I'm going to make a photo gallery showing each prize and the object/animal in the movie it is based on! So, stay tuned for that!

To the few people that follow this blog and also to those that are following my longfic (Visions of Greed), I just wanted to let you know that updates are now uncertain due to the fact that my beloved cat will soon pass away. Since my latest chapter and some edits were mostly done for the fic I decided to post those but I'm not sure about future updates. I am honestly completely devastated and don't know how I will cope with this loss. Thank you for understanding.

For my 100th fic spectacular, yall voted for a big tv event, variety show style format with the guest stars and big acts and so forth. I am planning to add interview segments with the characters i have written thus far. Those of you who would like to ask questions, now is the time. You will be answered in the fic interview segments, so please ask away. Also, let me know what name to call you. ("Namington would like to know", "Namington asks", etc.)

More Once-ler fanart… and apparently he’s beating the crap out of his former self. I imagine this is something of a psychotic breakdown, his inner turmoil come to life and he’s kinda just beating up this other side of himself that represents his guilt and remorse. Not sure what this would look like to an outside observer. Is he just punching the air or what?

So sad to hear about this. The artwork in the Disney Fairies books is some of the most beautiful I've ever seen and part of the reason I tried to collect as many of the books as possible, even those step into reading books. Nice job on the fanart it is a beautiful tribute.

In memory of Judith Holmes Clarke, who passed away earlier this year in March.

She was one of the leading artists for the Disney Fairies book series (and one of few Disney credited). Her art shaped the brand to the point it was even featured in the end credits of the first Tinker Bell movie. Judith passed away the same year Disney Fairies series celebrates its 20th anniversary 😢

I'm sorry I didn't say it sooner, but thank you, Judith, for being my inspiration for so many years. I only wish I could've said it in person. May your soul rest in peace

Visions of Greed Inspirations

My fic isn't finished yet, but I saw a post by @Whatiwishfanfiction where they shared their inspirations for their fanfic: The Great Lorax Movie Rewrite and I also wanted to share some of the things that inspired my own Once-ler fanfic: Visions of Greed (link to fic below).

Long post just FYI cause I was inspired by a lot of things.

The Teen Titans episode Haunted was without a doubt the most inspirational piece of media related to this fic. As I mentioned in the fic's intro, the story was basically created from a desire for more Once-ler content and also more content similar to that episode.

This influence is most notably seen in Chapters 12 and 13, where Once-ler and Greed-ler fight, but the influence is honestly present in almost every interaction Once-ler and Greed-ler have in the fic. I have a lot of fun coming up with all the different ways the interactions between them can be done and making them catered to my preferences (I am adverse to blood, gore, and horror but I like pretty things and animated action scenes.)

Going back to Teen Titans, aside from Haunted, other influential episodes include The Apprentice parts 1 and 2, Fear Itself , The Beast Within, and pretty much all the episodes that feature the villain character, Slade. The character of Slade himself is also one of the main inspirations for Greed-ler's characterization.

Other sources of inspiration:

Miraculous Ladybug is another show that I derived a lot of inspiration from. Not so much specific episodes in the case (With the exception of that scene in Chapter 7 that was a direct reference to the episode Passion where Natalie pinned Gabriel to the table ) But I was instead inspired by the show's overall themes/ideas such as the concept of Akumatization (most notably in Chapter 19), the manipulation and corruption of people's desires by Hawk Moth, the themes of creation and destruction, the changing of personalities with the changing of costumes, Hawk Moth's butterfly motifs, and the melodrama LOL.

The character of Hawk Moth/Gabriel Agreste was also very influential. Hawk Moth, like Slade served as a basis for Greed-ler's manipulative personality. While Hawk Moth's civilian identity of Gabriel Agreste influenced Isabella's characterization in regards to how she treats her son, Once-ler. Gabriel Agreste also influenced the character(s) of Once-ler/Greed-ler himself. I imagine that they would be an influential fashion mogul like Gabriel after they became famous.

Sailor Moon (both the anime and manga) also provided a lot of inspiration, mainly with The character (s) Hotaru Tomoe/Mistress 9/Sailor Saturn (Once-ler's internal struggle with Greed-ler). But also with other tropes and motifs such as Queen Nehelenia and her mirrors, Rei Hino's prophetic nightmares, magical girl tropes in general, and also how beautifully drawn the manga is. I strive to make the words I write and the scenes I create “pretty” in a similar way. Especially the nightmare and hallucination sequences.

Other magical girl shows/manga/comics including Winx Club, W.I.T.C.H., Angel's Friends, and Tokyo Mew Mew were also influential in too many little ways to mention.

Other media influences include:

The American Dragon: Jake Long episode: The Doppleganger gang. Where the main character creates an evil doppleganger that tries to become the “real” version of him.

The Avatar the Last Airbender episodes with Azula's breakdown and the one where Zuko got conflicted and developed a fever (that episode along with some episodes of Tokyo mew mew were the inspiration for Once-ler's stress fevers.) Some stuff from Sonic X (I used to dabble in the Sonic fandom a bit):

The scenes with Sonic and Shadow fighting, Shadow's ability to warp away, Shadow punching Sonic in the gut in the finale, and those episodes where Sonic and Shadow pass out multiple times (happens to poor Oncie quite a few times in this fic.)

Death the Wolf from the movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was also quite influential. (Haven't seen the movie yet but I've seen clips.) The way that Death stalks and haunts Puss is very similar to what Greed-ler does to Once-ler.

Meanwhile the Schlepper Brothers from the obscure movie Rock and Rule were one of the main inspirations for Once-ler's relationship with his brothers. Where the brothers tease the immature and less manly brother but are deeply concerned for him when he gets seriously hurt.

I also made a reference to the Edgar Allen Poe story The Raven (Chapter 17) and another Edgar Allen Poe story called William Wilson will have a influence on the fic's finale.

I also included scenes inspired by the Greek Myths of Narcissus (Chapter 20) and Pandora's box (Chapter 15).

I also looked up Halloween is Grinch Night to see how Dr. Seuss himself implemented a nightmarish sequence.

Music

Music also served as huge a inspiration for this fic. I like to listen to music when I write sometimes and it can really sometimes get the flow going. I really like Electronic/EDM music such as freeform hardcore. (The reason why I write about Once-ler dancing in the club so often.) But I've also been enjoying some awesome rock/alternative songs with very relevant lyrics. Music become so influential of the story that I created a playlist to serve as a soundtrack for the fic of sorts.

The songs with the most influential lyrics however, are featured in my Once-ler's corruption playlist.

A few noteworthy songs that had scenes directly based on them in the fic include/will include the following:

But if I had to pick just one song to be the theme song (although it is a hard choice) I would pick Fight Inside by Red.

I was also inspired by various elements of nature including things like:

Flowers (specifically, daffodils AKA the Narcissus blossom)

Emerald Gemstones

The Moon (Blood Red Moon)

Snow/Ice

Light/Darkness

Smoke

The classical elements of Fire, Water, Earth, Air,and Energy

Butterflies, a symbol of transformation most notably the Emerald Swallowtail butterfly, specifically the one pictured below.

I took the pic myself when I visited a butterfly house. This little guy was the main inspiration for the Masquerade Metamorphosis in Chapters 18 and 19 and was the direct inspiration the costume Greed-ler wears in those chapters, and in some chapters yet to come ;) That butterfly is also featured/mentioned in Chapter 16.

I also played around a lot with symbolism, including color symbolism (white, green, silver, and gold).

Along with fanfic tropes, such as sickfic, and whump prompts such as the scene where Once-ler falls through the ice in Chapter 22.

Finally I was also inspired by real life including my own experiences with working, dealing with my own greedy relatives, and coping with some of my own personal issues/insecurities

It's an open AU for the fandom so there have been many people who have made stories for it with their own characters, and some of them have made stories together in their own friend groups. Thanks again! yeah maybe. Once-ler could also have multiple homes/vacation homes like other rich people do. As for me and my writing, I have to do the penthouse in the factory thing for my current long fic for sure because there are scenes that simply would not work otherwise (It's called Visions of Greed if you want to check it out). and I used the idea for other works too. It's just so much more convenient. *shrugs*. As for your other points, I imagine that the factory could be big enough that he could fit a living space inside whether it be his main one or maybe an apartment if he doesn't have time to go home. Once-ler not having time to go home/occasionally sleeping at his office/factory I also why I have the headcanon about the office bathroom LOL. Poor guy sometimes doesn't have time to go back to his place to get cleaned up even if his home is right down the hall!

A Whole Bunch of Random Once-ler Headcannons!!!!

Once-ler gets cold easily, so he enjoys warm things like blankets, thneeds, long sleeve shirts, and hot tea.

His hobbies are playing guitar, reading books, drawing, knitting, and sewing (in the book it says he even sews his own clothes).

Once-ler didn't really have a lot of friends growing up, his peers in school usually either ignored him or occasionally teased him.

He doesn't really have real friends during his biggering era either. Since he spends so much time working and is a natural introvert. However, he knows how to be cordial during business functions.

Growing up Brett and Chet would often do their own thing and Once-ler was often left out. Thankfully Once-ler had his hobbies to keep him occupied, but he still felt lonely at times.

Once-ler's family doesn't hate him but they find his choice of hobbies and some of his habits and mannerisms rather odd.

One of these mannerisms is Once-ler's tendency to sometimes hum, sing, or dance a bit while doing chores on the farm.

Even Melvin finds this habit of Once-ler's a bit strange (you can see Melvin occasionally rolling his eyes or giving once-ler an odd look in the movie). Despite this, Melvin is still quite fond of Once-ler and even protective of him at times.

Part of the reason for this is because Once-ler was Melvin's primary caretaker back at the farm. Because the other members of Once-ler's family are not very fond of animals, including Melvin.

Melvin, in turn, is not very fond of Once-ler's family members either.

Once-ler didn't mind taking care of Melvin though, because he loved animals. Once-ler briefly forgot about the animals (including Melvin) during his biggering era. But after the last tree fell and Once-ler realized what he did to them he felt really guilty.

Once-ler didn't forget about Melvin completely during his biggering era however. Once-ler had a barn built behind the factory for the mule to live in (we see Mevin at the end of the movie so I assumed he lived on the property). Once-ler didn't have time to take car of Melvin himself though so he hired a stable-hand to take care of him every day. Once-ler did try to visit/take care of Melvin a few times during the biggering days, but eventually he stopped as he got more busy. This made Melvin feel neglected by Once-ler so that's part of the reason why he left him. Melvin was still sad about it though.

Going back to Once-ler's family, particularly his brothers, Brett and Chet, they were also sad to have to leave Once-ler behind, but they wouldn't dare speak up against their mother.

Their mother, Isabella is the only thing Brett and Chet will admit to being scared of (and Once-ler agrees). While Once-ler is a bit of a scaredy cat. Brett and Chet would often make fun of him for this.

Sometimes Bret and Chet would even sneak up behind him/make a loud noise/ throw things near him in order to laugh at his reaction, which often included yelping, jumping, and/or cowering. Which the twins found amusing.

That being said although Brett and Chet sometimes teased Once-ler, they still loved him and would never try to seriously hurt him (not realizing how much their teasing hurt his feelings). If Once-ler ever became ill, injured or was in danger they would be worried about him and try to help if they can.

In fact during their school years while Brett and Chet would sometimes join in if other kids were making fun of Once-ler, they would immediately step in if someone tried to hit or hurt him. They would never allow anyone to beat Once-ler up.

Brett and Chet continued to protect and help Once-ler during his biggering era. They served a similar role to O-Hare's Morty and Mcguirk.

The twins were quite fine with this, and obeyed Once-ler's orders almost without question, since they made good money with the job and genuinely wanted to help Once-ler with his business.

This was also enforced by Isabella, who was especially concerned about making sure the business was always profitable and running smoothly.

During Once-ler's biggering era, she was Once-ler's 2nd in command. She basically acted as his “momager” and would often nag him about hings when she felt he wasn't doing enough.

This hurt Once-ler and he constantly strived to keep biggering his business in order to please her.

At times Isabella did complement Once-ler and tell him that she was proud of him, but her love was fickle and conditional. She was only pleased with Once-ler when she thought he was doing things right, but was quick to condemn him when she thought he did something wrong or even if she felt like he wasn't doing enough.

One thing Isabella does like is Once-ler's green suit. She thinks it makes him look professional and stylish. His mother also thinks the color green looks nice on him.

Isabella also likes his gloves, she also likes to wear long-opera style gloves when she dresses up for fancy events and parties, which she loves attending and planning.

As for the green gloves, Once-ler knitted them himself. They are called grovvulous gloves because they are made of a fabric called grovvulous. Once-ler previously tried to use grovvulous to make a thneed prototype before he found the truffula trees, but the fabric was not flexible enough so he made the pair of gloves instead.

He later goes on to make several more spare pairs of gloves, that he keeps hidden away in desk or dresser drawers. During his biggering era that was practically the only thing he knitted. He often liked to knit in front of his fancy fireplace.

Once-ler also has a habit of having extra thneeds stashed in various places, including in those same desk and dresser drawers and also his closets. He also keeps wads of cash stuffed in those drawers too.

Once-ler's green suit also has hidden pockets where he also stashes cash.

Once-ler often falls asleep at his desk in his office. Sometimes he just dozes off while working, other times he leans back, puts his hat over his eyes and takes a nap, just like he did in the wagon in the movie.

There is an adjacent bathroom right next to the office, complete with a full shower/tub, and a cabinet filled with Once-ler's favorite toiletries.

Once-ler also has a mini fridge in his office too.

He actually lives in the factory, in a luxurious penthouse just down the hall from his office. The floor below features a luxurious parlor room and a dining area that he uses to entertain guests. The tall tower that later becomes the lerkim serves as the entryway.

Once-ler rarely leaves the factory, except to attend a business function/meeting/party or to go shopping in town, and he sometimes likes to peruse the nightlife, going to concerts or nightclubs (he loves music).

Once-ler prefers music with guitars, but he does also likes the electronic music the club plays and he enjoys dancing along to it. He is a very good dancer and people are often impressed with his moves.

In fact, Once-ler has always been very agile and coordinated, rarely ever tripping and falling.

Except when he drinks...Once-ler is quite a lightweight and he has to be careful around alcohol, especially during parties when champagne is served. Once-ler can easily become inebriated after a few celebratory toasts.

And finally....

Once-ler still wears his bunny PJs after becoming rich sometimes simply because he thinks they are cozy.
