I'm so mad. I've been locked in bloody battle with my expensive-ass high-end printer for ages. It had been getting less and less reliable, printing a few pages properly only to randomly grind to a halt and die with a generic "B200 please bring in for repairs" error. I assumed it was just getting old. I decided to address the problem in the same way I address many problems, by just avoiding it. This "worked" for a while (the same way it does for many problems), but finally this weekend I got a store order requiring me to print some fresh stickers.

I did a deep clean... wouldn't print. I replaced all the ink cartridges (EXPENSIVE)... wouldn't print. Finally, in desperation, I looked inside the printer with a flashlight and, deep in the farthest corner...

A FEATHER. INSIDE THE PRINTER. Wrapped around one of the print rollers. I removed it, restarted the printer a few times... magically it works again!!

Moral of the story: never use feather dusters on your electronics. The thick coating of dust is better than the alternative.

Ah it's nice to hear from you! Life has been treating me surprisingly well. I've become somewhat obsessed with home cooking although I haven't really gotten much better at it. Ended up permanently adopting bare-butt foster cat, and last December I managed to make it back to Japan for the first time in over 20 years!!

Some new keychains I made... a bit ago but just now put online. A silk moth, possum, and timber wolf. There's something so relaxing about forcing myself to draw in this flat, simple style instead of adding 1000 brush strokes and details. See them over at wittycritters.com.

I just wanna start off by saying that your comic "drop out" was absolutely wonderful and that there's nothing that compares to it; and now to real true question... how are you so great at coloring!?!

first of all thank you second of all i got worse at it so don't worry about it.

i also have some other stuff laying around. it can help you see how i conceptualize color. from 2018:

also whenever my sketches reached a new audience for a long time people would bitch me out about how using pure red to sketch hurt their eyes so eventually i stopped using pure red or pure any color lol. i think that improved my coloring significantly too.

use your favorite colors, don't worry too much, do your best, get bored easily, study colors in art you love by observing and guessing and eyedropping if you don't get them right, etc.

I've been working at the animal shelter and finally got to foster a cat (but I think my partner is falling in love). His name is Cheese It (sic) and he came to us with his entire butt shaved bare due to matting. He is gentle and cuddly and purrs more than any cat I've ever met.

Spring-themed dragon to go with my other seasonal ones... I cannot begin to describe how much fun I had with this. I love pink so much, it's kind of a problem.

Been meaning to do a spring and summer dragon to compliment my fall and winter ones. I love fishkeeping, so it was a lot of fun to do an aquatic-themed one. The iridescent scales were easier to do than I thought they'd be!

Chuckling a bit at the fact that I started posting again almost exactly 1 year after my last post. I might start posting more "offhand" personal musings on Tumblr once again instead of Twitter. Not a fan of the way the Twitter algorithm hides the posts of people you're actually following in lieu of stuffing your feed with random tweets you didn't ask for. I want everyone to see every one of my annoying posts!
