writing is so funny because i could write nonstop for 9hrs and then hit a block where im like "how do i transition between this moment and the next?" and then i just dont touch it for 6 months

I was also at the SLC no kings march! I was literally half a block away when the shooting happened and it was so scary and I really needed to hear what you said about people helping. bc it's true. 10,000+ people were there to march and support. I was so scared I almost forgot. but people are showing up anyway. thanks for your words :)

I’m so glad you were safe! And call me an optimist, but I do believe that not even violence and fear can break through our compassion. If Utah can have 10,000 marchers and even more supporters, then it really proves that change is wanted and it will come with time.

I was marching at Salt Lake City’s No Kings protest when the public shooting started

There was only one critical hit and the shooter had quickly been detained, but when I think back to that hour of my life I don’t just think about the panic.

I think about hands pulling people to safety. I think about how, hours earlier, all 10,000 of us cheered when a dog got reunited with her owner. I think about the queer 30 year-old in a leather tank top who handed me their water without questions. I think about reaching out to a shaking girl and holding her as I walked her through sending her location to her friend. I think about the couple who didn’t march, but saw four of us hiding in their parking lot and offered to drive us home.

I think about the mother waiting outside the protest holding her child and saying, “It’s okay to swear here. It’s okay to say ‘hell’’” in one of the most Christian states in the US.

I think about the trans kids I work with who talk about protests like these.

I think about the people who’ve reached out on Instagram, people I barely speak to normally, who send me their love when they found out where I was tonight.

And that’s why we do this, I think. It was never just about anger, but love so big it fills the streets of a conservative state. So big I’m sharing chapstick and water bottles with crying girls and holding their hands so they can never blow away from me.

Yes, that’s exactly why we do this.

Just had the weirdest experience sending a query letter to someone who so happened to go to the same college my protagonist gets accepted into. Do I still get brownie points if my protag is interested in said college but declines the offer to go on a mad gay descent?
