Michael's Travels
13 posts
A Chicago-native explores the world: including: Europe (Rome, Vienna, Prague, Germany, Netherlands & London by complete accident) A five-month station in Jerusalem studying under the strictest of rabbis A two-week trip down to New Orleans and a summer in Michigan selling marijuana legally to patients and pretend-patients. My most recent trip will be in June-- I'm taking a two-day Greyhound journey to the heart of Satan's stomping grounds (LA) and from there I ship off to Taipei, Taiwan for a job working at a summer camp. Expect photos and thoughts on and of the world at large.

One of those spots in the world that sends shivers and takes away breathes and slows hearts.  Central Valley, Costa Rica.

My most recent trip was in Alabama--I visited a small town of 6,000 under the name of Hamilton.  The archetype of the term "Bible Belt," Hamilton has Baptist churches across the street from Baptist Churches.  My reason for being there was to explore the culture, as is often the case when I travel.  The Ramp (the ramp.org) is the type of Pentecostal Church the TV warns you about, where half the people in the room are crying and the other half are speaking in what is known as tongues.  300-pound men in suspenders are cured of demonic possession and fall backwards like towering trees (anyone in the vicinity runs away quickly, as their faith is not strong enough to support that kind of weight).
Either they're all crazy or I'm crazy.  Suppose it doesn't matter, since we're all going to the same place in the end.

…And I have said about the practice of the arts that practicing any art - be it painting, music, dance, literature, or whatever - is not a way to make money or become famous. It’s a way to make your soul grow. So you should do it anyway.

One of the photos I took after the harrowing 2 hour climb up Masada.
At least mine didn't include Jews throwing stones down the slopes my way.
