Making Formatted Mobile Replies!

Hello!! Okay so I know there's a lot of people who get stuck on mobile because their computer breaks (aka me) or are on vacation. SO I give you my tutorial on how to do formatted replies and thoroughly convince everyone you are a god. It's a little long, but very detailed and step by step.

First, you need a smartphone. No brainer but, I'm going super detailed. I have an iPhone 6s, but the basic perimeters are the same even if you have an android.

Alright! Let's just get started.

You want to use your browser. This is important. Yes, you can use the app, but I find the app acts weird when coming to reading what's html text and what's not even when it's switched to the html setting. So do yourself a favor and use your browser (safari, chrome, or whatever other internet thing you use).

Log in. Find the reply you want on your dash. My phone doesn't let me copy and paste on people's blogs so I have to copy from the dash, but you might find that different. basically you just need to highlight and copy the last persons reply as shown below.

I write my replies in my notes because I find it easier. You can write them directly into a post if you wish. Pressing the reblog button will bring you to a page like this. You want this page regardless of where you type. Press it. You will get this page.

Go to your notes and write your reply below the other person’s.

Now, once you've written your reply, it's time for all the fun formatting!!

First place <p> at the beginning of every paragraph (including your partner's reply! If you like small text, insert <small> after the <p> of every paragraph as well.

Basic codes for text formatting are <b>text</b> for bold, <i>text</i> for italic, and <strike>text</strike> for a strike through. You can look up other basic html formats here.

Now you have to insert the link that takes you back to the last persons reply. To get the url for the last reply, press and hold the link and press copy (or copy link or copy link location, whatever comes up).

The code looks like this and it goes at the very very top of all the text.

<p><a href="LINK TO LAST URL GOES HERE">Thing you want linked here</a>

Next, select all and copy all the text you’ve written from your notes into the body of the reply page.

Now you need to insert the icons/gif.

The code for images looks like this:

<p><img src="IMAGE LINK HERE">

If you put the code proceeding the other person’s text, the image will appear before their reply an vice versa. To get the link for the past person's icon, you just press and hold over the image and hit copy.

It's a similar process to insert the icon/gif for your reply. Open your gif hunt in a new tab. Press and copy the url for the icon/gif you want.

place the code <p><img src="URL HERE"> before or after you reply depending on where you want your icon/gif.

Last coding thing you have to do is insert the blockquote line.

Place <blockquote> DIRECTLY after the <p><a href="LINK">url</a> code.

You place </blockquote> after the last persons reply. Be sure to include the code for their icon/gif between <blockquote> and </blockquote>.

Congrats you're done with coding!

Press the red x to get rid of the past replies.

Now, scroll down and hit the little down arrow. Insert the tags you want, and switch the "publish now" to "save as draft."

You don't have to save as draft and publish your post now, but I like to see how the formatting come out and make sure I didn't make any stupid mistakes.

Once you've saved the post as a draft, go look at it in your drafts.

If it doesn't look right, press the edit button. Some common mistakes would be not placing the entire person's reply between the <blockquote></blockquote> code and forgetting a "<" or "/". Don't be discouraged!

Note that italics don't show up on browsers. They do show up in the app, so if you're really worried about your italics you can look at it on the tumblr app.

Once everything looks awesome and like you want, switch "save as draft" to "publish now." Press save and congrats!! You're all done.

I know this seems like a lot, but once you do it a couple times it gets much easier!! Yes, it will take more time than if you were on your computer (esp. if you have edible reblogs installed), but I promise it's not impossible!!

     “blondie? that’s the best you can do?” she laughs, grabbing hold of his fingertip with the tongs and wiggling it around for a second before freeing him. “oh my gosh, i’m not gonna burn the sausages, i can cook! kind of.” tongue pokes out at him and she turns back to the slowly blackening sausages. oops?

" i'm ------ not CREATIVE. you know that. " arms lower and he sticks his tongue out at her, eyes covertly wandering to the sausages sizzling away in their pan. yeah those are definitely about to be overcooked. " and the SAUSAGES are really saying otherwise, alton brown ---- seriously what would you eat if i didn't make dinner? "

his relief upon hearing nat respond is short lived. " N A T --- i don't know. " it's all but a whine. " c'mon, man. i REALLY have to pee. "

     “ i work with the fire department --- i’m a paramedic. ” he explains, returning the rejected bandaging to his pocket. “ so i figure i always ought to be prepared for at least MINOR injury at all time; it’d just be ironic if i were unprepared for a senario, even off duty. but the --ah-- cute bandaids are more for the benefit of any children.”

“I’m so clumsy sometimes.” Emilia nodded at the recommendation “Do you always carry cute bandaids with you?” Emilia smiled sweetly to the ones who had little ducks, disney princesses or winnie the pooh. As much as she wanted to rock a winnie the pooh one, she chose a plain one, people wouldn’t take her siriously if she was working with one on her hand.

Inspecting the wound, Kat made a small sound of appreciation, impressed by his handiwork, and that it wasn’t too nasty. “Yeah, sure thing. I’ve had worse,” she offered with a shrug. “Thanks again, though. Could’ve been a lot worse.”

     “ of course --- happy i could help. it was the least i could do. ” michael smiles, standing once more to shrug on his coat. the tweezers disappear into one pocket, bandaids extracted from another. “ i have these too if you’d like one. ”

‘’i don’t have butterfly ones’ he began, holding his jacket to his arm still. “think i have some green lantern ones though? got them as a stocking filler, they are probably shoved in my draw in my office so i’ll be fne” he assured with a smile, reaching for his messenger bag and fumbling through it for his company id, not wanting to move his arm quite as much as he usually did. “definitely have warm water and antiseptic though”

     he extracts an assorted handful of bandaging from his coat pocket. rummaging through a large amount iridescent sparkly, disney princess, and beige generic brand bandaids, it takes a moment for michael to find the butterfly bandages buried among the others; when he does he offers three to the male. “ REGULAR will do, but these’ll help keep any scarring to a minimal --- you’ll only need one. they go perpendicular to the cut; google it if you need a reference. ”

    “you always make life thrilling, stop, you’re stealing my job.” she pulls her hand out from under the faucet and turns off the water, shaking it dry. getting blood on a hand towel would just be annoying to clean up. “hah! he might as well have! it just just like, a mix of both, like he highkey just keysmashed and went ‘hey yeah, perfect, totally sounds like a legit chant’ or whatever it is bad script writers think. i gotta stop working on b list horror movies, michael, or else i’m gonna summon a demon to. i dunno. write better horror movie scripts.” nat turns to face him whilst leaning back against the edge of the counter. “sometimes i forget life alert is an actual thing, not just a meme. did she do the whole help! i’ve fallen and i can’t get up! shtick?”

     “ i guess EVERYONE thinks they can just up and become the next big thing --- that’s why they hire you. seriously, though. i dunno how you do all those indie scripts. ” for a moment he’s a tad bit more solemn, prideful of her accomplishments, shoulder bumping hers amiably. it’s hardly any time at all, a flutter of a heartbeat and then michael rolls his eyes at her, one hand catching her injured one by the wrist so he can examine it again with the wound clean. “ AND as much as i WISH i could tell you she did, i gotta shatter your dreams. ” eyes find hers again, one brow cocked in amusement. “ it was pretty damn close though --- sent one of the newbies into giggles. clearly you’re not the only one who forgets life alert isn’t just a meme. ”

    she snaps her tongs at his bread knife, clamping the tip of it between the two prongs. “dear, ouch, condescending pet names! you’ve learned so much from me.” natalia bats her eyelashes at him and snaps the tongs again. she’s not really helping much, just bothering him by pinching at his hands and face with the tongs every so often. “listen, mr paramedic who knows puns, creative consulting is only about five percent puns.”

     “ look blondie ---- ” it’s supposed to be the start of some indignant and CLEVER comeback, but it comes across as far more AMUSED than annoyed. being CROSS with natalia is like trying to be angry with a KITTEN; best just to give up NOW. and then michael’s laughing, forearms moving to protect his face, bread knife still haphazardly in hand. “ ---- just ---- please don’t burn the sausages. ” he says weakly, knowing full well the sausages are definitely going to get burned nonetheless.

a FAMILIAR FACE was just as welcome as a cup of pure coffee in the morning, and she was glad michael was there to provide just that. taking the seat with a pleased smile, nova STRETCHED lazily while waving in her friend’s way, bringing a sweater covered small fist to rub her eyes. “ – thanks god for coffee. or my mornings wouldn’t happen. ” the brunette told, looking through her sketch book, pursing red tinted lips before pulling out a certain paper sheet triumphantly, sipping from her HOT DRINK before passing the small art piece over to him, across the table as if it was a confidential document, her watercoloured gift still not facing him with the BLANK side up. “ i saw this flower on the park, yesterday. reminded me of you. it looks like it could have medical properties. like, something grandmas would use to make some tea for when your throat is aching. probably not but it looked like it. so, i had to draw it, so i could GIVE it to you. ”

     michael smiles at her --- kindly amused by her sleepy antics. “ early morning class? ” comes the sympathetic question. he too can feel the tugs of exhaustion on his eyelids and muscles, but for a slightly different reason --- the paramedic has been awake since TEN the prior night ( THANKS night shift ). brown gaze watches her over the rim of his mug as she rummages for something, eyes catching fragments of sketches and flashes of COLOR; he tries not to look too hard. creative works, as he’s learned from natalia, are things that ought to be revealed on their creator’s own terms and not anyone else’s. so it’s with a little THRILL that he reaches for the offered paper, rapidly cooling tea set down to press a water-ring into the table.

     “ this is BEAUTIFUL, nova. ” he says honestly. beautiful is certainly ONE word to describe the delicate washes of color gracing the page --- capturing the wafer-thin petals in careful strokes. it’s certainly nothing he could do. “ i see what you mean about--- ” his response is cut short by a yawn. “ sorry--- this is gunna look great in my apartment. ”

“my lab is only a few buildings down and i’d much rather do it there. don’t worry you don’t have to tag along if you don’t want…there’s plenty of people with first aid training there so…” he continued to ramble, teeth sinking into the skin of his bottom lip once more as he trailed off. “my lab is just, sterile. so i’d rather that to a cafe.”

     “ oh ---- alright. yeah --- that makes sense. ” you can’t FORCE anyone to go ANYWHERE, and michael has resigned himself to that fact years ago. besides the stranger who’s arm he’d plucked glass out of hardly needs the attention of a hospital, and labs certainly have their fair share of knowledgeable people --- so it should be WITHOUT guilt that he lets the guy go on his merry way; michael just can’t shake the fact that the other also didn’t seem to know what a butterfly bandage was. “ just --- warm water, antiseptic, butterfly bandage --- okay? ” he reminds.

    “well they are liars, then.” natalia looks over her shoulder at him, scooting when prompted while she lets warm water wash in a continuous stream over the red cut. she holds it there until water runs clear instead of tinted pink. “damn, way to make it sound ominous. the PROJECT went fine, mostly little script re-writes and stuff. bet the writer’s gonna be like…sending legitimate curses my way for saying he should make his evil demon summoning chants actually latin instead of just made up rambling.” nat shrugs and laughs softly. “how was paramedic-ing?”

  ��  the glass sounds deceptively PRETTY as it clatters against the metal of the wastebasket, though perhaps not as pleasing as natalia’s LAUGH. “ hey ! it makes it far more THRILLING, and rambling? ” he echoes, “ did he like --- copy and paste lorem ipsm or like, let his cat walk all over the keyboard and go like, yeah, looks good? seriously. ” a laugh of his own tumbles out then, dust pan set on the counter before he settles with his back to the cabinets, gaze settled on his friend. “ sounds like YOU had the more eventful day --- the most exciting thing that happened to me today while paramedic-ing was some old lady pressing her life alert. ”

    “all you’ve done for me?” she’s going to be mockingly indignant right back at him! “excuse me, i have enriched your life beyond belief, you should appreciate my retail puns for their accessibility and joy bringing capabilities.”

     he pauses in his slicing of the baguette, bread knife pointed in her direction in what might have been threatening if he weren’t michael and well...the knife not a BREAD knife. “ nat --- dear--- you’re a CREATIVE CONSULTANT --- maybe i just have higher expectations and retail puns. ”

“Okay” Diana nodded and took a deep breath. she had accidently smashed a glass and cut up her hand. “I’m ready.”

     kudos to the girl for being fairly CALM despite the glass embedded in her finger. “ alright ---- little discomfort here and ---- it’s out. ” he holds up the little shard as proof before dropping it onto a napkin. “ --- you’ll want to wash that cut out with warm water. ”

     “ shhh. ” being a paramedic means seeing some fairly CRAZY things and not asking how they happened out of pure curiosity. so michael leans in again, pads of fingers keeping the muscles around the embedded glass mostly STILL as he plucks the shard out with ease.

When it came to pain Kat wouldn’t consider herself a wimp,but it wasn’t a walk in the park either. Wincing, she braced herself for the movement, watching through half-closed lids as he slid it out. She cringed before letting out a sigh of relief. A glance down revealed damage was little, making her feel somewhat better. “Thanks.” She muttered, offering a small smile.

     “ you did WELL. ” michael says kindly, and it’s not a lie. the woman before him was a far CRY from the sort that whimpered and freaked out at the sight of injury or inevitable pinch of pain. “ you lucked out --- it’s not that DEEP, though when you get a chance you outta rinse it and put on some antiseptic cream. ”
