🌗 LOONA REDESIGN 🌓

It’s has been collecting dust deep in my drafts for a loooong time now. Might as well air it out.

Loona is an angsty, short-tempered adoptive daughter of Blitzø and works as the receptionist for I.M.P.

She spent the first 17 years of her life rotting away in Greed Ring, constantly being transferred from one hellhound pound to the other and taking part in monetary dogfights — events popular among local demons which, by buying tickets and often placing bids on their favorites, inadvertently kept the pounds in business and—in some instances—even thriving. She was seen only as a pawn in the games.

Games that were never hers to win.

But that’s old news. Since she joined I.M.P., things are different. She’s no longer the runt of the group. She’s important. Her voice matters. Plus she can be a bully (poor Moxxie lol) whenever she feels like it. Point is— she exploits it to the max. Never before has she been the one that intimidates others, so she tries to get the most out of it, fearing that if she stops baring her teeth, that newfound power will be ripped out of her hands as quick as she got a steady grasp on it. And she refuses to let go and be weak ever again.

🦉 STOLAS REDESIGN 🌓

oh where do i even START. there is no metric or scale on this world that can adequately measure the sheer velocity of my eyeballs rolling into the back of my skull in contempt whenever Stolass the cringe ass nae nae baby comes on screen during the already painful watch of Helluva Boss. this goddamn piździelec is the bane of my existence. not only is he my least favorite Helluva Boss character, but my least favorite Hellaverse character in general. the narrative treats this pompous chicken drumstick as if he has the right to act like the victim, when all he’s ever done is put Blitzø in uncomfortable situations where Blitzø had to have sex with him to obtain the Grimoire, knowing full well that Blitz needed it to keep his business running. AND he keeps on neglecting Octavia, his DAUGHTER, to continue being weird towards/about Blitz. now, that in itself DOES make him an interesting character, but the problem is in the way he’s shown to us – as someone to be pitied. why is he treated like a good guy in the show, i will never understand. nerf the whiny bird and quit justifying his actions before I draw him stuck in a glue trap hitting the Peter Griffin death pose 🌞

Letting up on that hate-filled rant, let’s talk business!! Stolas is a self-centered manipulator with a victim complex that is blind to other people’s feelings in my rework. He blames everyone but himself for his actions and despises when things don’t go his way. In his eyes, it’s all Stella’s fault that he turned into a cheater (as if she wasn’t also forced into their loveless marriage like he was…). He was distant and cold from the start, and when Stella stopped trying to make their relationship work and quit taking his bullshit, he became even worse. His daughter isn’t exempt from his coldness either. As much as he swears up and down that he loves her, he still silently views Octavia as a nuisance, an obstacle that is firmly placed in the way of true freedom and peace that he could have been living, if not for his obligation to raise an heir. He feels entitled to being the way he is, since he’s never been treated all that well by life either. He very clearly feels trapped, but that doesn’t erase all of his faults.

I do like the idea of Stolas being a villain. A multifaceted character that has been wronged, but a villain nonetheless. And he is treated like one! He would NOT be the main focus of the show, however — the lights would be on I.M.P. tbh I’d rather go for a more episodic approach to the story, where each episode is about a different client of I.M.P. and we get to see the main characters actually doing their jobs as paid assassins and facing some wacky setbacks they have to overcome, rather than seeing the constant back and forth between Blitz and Stolas that the official show seems to revolve around now. So yes, Stolas wouldn’t be featured nearly as often! In fact, I feel like he’d usually get the most screentime in the heavy episodes: for example ones that would tackle his relationship with Blitz, or ones that would showcase his immediate family and how they all pretty much hate each other.

Now onto the design!! In all honesty, I don’t mind his official one, but I couldn’t help myself from hitting him with the redesigning-beam too. POW 💥

• He has gained quite a bit of feathers, especially around the neck. Also, instead of the weird hat-crown (???) with eyes situation he has in the official design, I just gave him a floating crown with one eye AND plumicorns – the ear-like feathers that owls commonly possess!

• I kept the astrology theme because it’s AWESOME. Every high ranking member of the Ars Goetia family has a different set of chores that they do to ‘regulate’ Hell. Stolas is the one in charge of the night sky in every Ring!! He studies galaxies, constellations and asteroids, among other things cosmos-related. he can also create galactic matter at will, hence the two nebula orbs he’s holding and the galaxy cape 🌌 (fun fact: you can phase your hand through his cape and it’ll be covered in star dust!)

• His cape is fastened with an Asmodean crystal. Why is that important? Well, an Asmodean crystal can work as an inter-dimensional transportation device just as well as the Grimoire. He knows what that kind of crystal looks like. Blitzø does not (Asmodean crystals are anything but obtainable for the common demons. Most have no idea what they look like). Also, Stolas has a lot of those crystals stored in the castle, thrown around forgotten chests and left unused. See where I’m going with this? Stolas purposefully retains this information and tells Blitz that he only has the Grimoire to spare, for which Blitz has to go to bed with him each month (as their agreement states), when he could’ve given Blitz one Asmodean crystal and part ways with him long ago. But he’s too selfish to let go of the imaginary relationship he created and continues the same cycle that leaves both of them more and more divided.

Husker: Reimagined

Character critique + explanation under the cut:

Husker is my 2nd least favorite Hazbin Hotel design, right after the radio demon himself. Husker’s design, however, ranks #1 as the most frustrating, based on this origin and the executive decisions made.

Throughout the wiki, Vivziepop is quoted referring to Husk as a “magician”, but watching the show, we don’t get that at all, not even from his design, which while it showcases a lot of card suits, still invokes more of a casino/gambler vibe than a magician. Even when he used playing cards as weapons in episode 4, it still came across as more of a gambling thing than a magician thing to me, so I am approaching Husk from more of the casino angle, with magic tricks bring a footnote in his abilities.

I like how Husk is characterized as a “husk of his former self” and a dry-humored, secretly empathetic straight man, who’s good at reading people, all points which are well-presented in the show. I do think that he’s used too much as a tool for lazy expositing by the writers, so my version of Husk will be more of the strong silent type who is only speaks intentionally, besides grumpy grumbles.

As for his design, the magician/casino thing feels tacked on considering that he was originally an oc gifted to Vivziepop by her younger sister, favoring nostalgia over effective character design.

His design doesn’t feel like a professional character design, it feels like a professional deviantart OC. Not to imply that I am a professional, but I do believe that Vivziepop has poor and tacky character design sensibilities.

Besides his real-world origin, being a winged cat doesn’t seem to have anything substantial to do with the way Husk lived or died besides “hating cats” and a possible “death by falling” which feels so tacked on and lacking creativity, which is why I have opted to make Husk a manticore from myth and legend, to make sense of these elements from his official design.

I chose to make Husk a manticore bc in my iteration, I see him being a ruthless casino owner with possible mob affiliations in life, reduced to being simply a gambler in Hell, where he regained power by dealing in souls, which ultimately became his undoing.

The Manticore of myth is described as a man eater that swallows people whole, even the bones, which I think in this case could be a tongue in cheek way for how he treated people in life as a ruthless casino owner.

I think that gambling away his soul to Alastor would be humbling and would have helped him gain some perspective with how his victims felt in life and in death, and as a result making him more quiet and withdrawn, speaking only when he feels necessary. This makes what he does say have more weight, making interactions feel more meaningful when he opts to use full sentences.

My biggest gripe with Husk, of course, is that he is voiced by Kieth David. Husk’s official design is not something befitting the voice of Kieth David. I suspect they cast him mainly for his singing voice, as the majority of VAs trying out for the role were only doing Rick from Rick and Morty impressions, as according to the wiki, Vivziepop cited Rick Sanchez as inspiration for how she’d like his voice to sound like. I don’t think Rick would fit either for the modern Husk, but his voice would definitely befit the original DeviantArt design.

Thus I decided to make a design for Husk that would be befitting for the voice talents of Kieth David, opting for a heavier, more boxy design, with 70’s inspired clothing (the era he supposedly died). I used more oranges and yellows for his color palette to cite his sins of Gluttony (orange) and Greed (Yellow/Gold), while also throwing in some green sheen in his black dragon wings and scorpion tail, to balance the colors out. I kept the tophat as I think Alastor would force him to wear it to hide the only part of Husker’s demon form that he actually likes about himself- his coif of hair (as seen in the flashback in Episode 4). Alastor does this as a silly way to torment him. I also kept his suspenders, and kept the card suits motif but much more subtly.

The clasps on his suspenders are diamonds, his nose is an upside-down spade, the tufts on his ears and the white patch on his chin are vaguely heart-shaped, and I plan to make his paw pads resemble clubs. Not pictured is an Ace of Hearts tucked away in the brim of his hat.

I dont know how big or tall to make him, but I do want him to hold an imposing figure when compared to anyone sitting down at his bar. His wingspan is definitely going to be bigger than in his official design.

I personally am not a big HuskerDust fan, simply because I see them having as having a mentor/student relationship, with Husk being a glimpse into Angel’s future if he continues down his self-destructive path, and with Angel being a symbol of hope for the future for this old grizzled man.

Also, you can’t tell from the show, but Husk is canonically supposed to be in his 60’s??? I look to rectify that with visible crow’s feet and wrinkles when he emotes.

I had more fun than I thought I would with this redesign, I'm not sure which overlord I'm going to redesign next, I don't have many redesign ideas other than the main cast, which will take a while to do because I want to focus on the overlords first

so for now I'm going to explore the fandom a little more so I can add general headcanons

Crymini Redesign☠️🐾

Thanks to an ask from @gloomycherub-mysterious, I decided to finally redesign an old classic, the punk pup, CRYMINI!!!!!🐾☠️🦴. I hope Mini will be coming into the show too like Baxter!

For the time being, I’m imagining mine as a hellhound, like Loona, hence the red-pink sclera. I went for the idea of her being a spotted-hyena. Made her fur darker, aswell as the spots, added the markings & made her tail shorter. Ngl I think Lion King/Guard lowkey inspired me too. I imagine Mini’s the runt of the litter & makes up for that with a lot of bark & bite(though often bites off more than she can chew)

Made Mini’s legs more canine-like!

Made Mini’s hair shorter & styled more like a punk-style shaved side, with a little pink gradient dye too!!!!

Went harder into the skull stuff(goes with the punk look & hyenas r scavengers) ☠️ made her shirt skull a hyena skull with crossbones aswell as added one for her belt buckle & even added a bone ear peircing!

I imagine Crymini as someone who def gets into a lot of fights so I added some cuts & tears to her face & ear & was going for a kinda stitching look for the eyebrow. Also got bandaging around her hands & feet.

Made Crim a bit on the chubbier side, based on the older concept art. Also added a lil more muscle too since they’re still a girl hyena, even if a runt!
