“Medical professionals” have created a weight-loss device that bolts fat people’s jaws shut, reducing them to a liquid diet. Subjects reported discomfort, speech issues, and feeling tense/embarrassed. The creators still claim “there are no adverse consequences.”

Counselor and fat lib educator Hannah Fuhlendorf MA LPCC shared her thoughts this morning:

“I just want to say that I’ve seen the news about the device that doctors want to use to wire fat people’s mouths shut to keep us from eating.

I’m not avoiding talking about it because it’s unpleasant. I’m processing and caring for myself in the midst of a literal torture device getting medical approval to keep people from looking like me.

This kind of constant trauma is part of my experience as a fat person fighting against systems designed to punish and harm me.

I want to emphasize that this isn’t even the first “intervention” like this. Weight loss surgery is literally the amputation of a healthy organ for the purpose of forcing starvation by threat of excruciating physical pain and injury. We have weight loss pills that cause heart attacks, blood clots and more at significantly higher levels than would ever get approved for any other type of medication.

This, by the way, is the reason I have zero tolerance for the “but fat people’s health...” bullshit. Our health is not now and has never been a priority. Most people and organizations only care about fat people shrinking and manipulating our bodies by any means necessary. Yes, even if it means torture, sickness, or death.

If, god forbid, this device actually enters medical use (which I don’t expect) then I will have action opportunities available at that time.

For now though, it’s just another day of trying to survive in a world that would rather have me dead or in constant suffering than fat.

Rapper Macklemore is releasing a track called “Hind’s Hall”, speaking out on the genocide of Palestinians, and the United States complacency in this ongoing violence. Macklemore has stated that once the track drops on streaming, all proceeds from streams will be going directly to UNRWA— the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East.

The new tracks namesake Hind’s Hall echoes the honours that Columbia University encampment protestors bestowed the Morningside Heights campus’ Hamilton Hall— in memory of Hind Rajab, the 6 year old Palestinian girl in Gaza who was shot by Israeli soldiers after being trapped inside a vehicle, with her dead family. She had begged to be rescued as tanks closed in on her.

Macklemore using his platform to vehemently speak out against genocide, the Israeli occupation and United States-led violence is what every single artist should be doing right now. The power of art should not be underestimated. Macklemore started out in the Hip-Hop scene within communist circles, namely working alongside Blue Scholars, and has never neglected his Leftism through out his career: the artist has spoken on issues regarding mental health, addiction, racial profiling and police violence, Capitalism, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights and toxicity of American culture.

Seen a couple posts on the dashboard lately about writing with ADHD. So, for the ADHD and neurodivergent folks who like writing but struggle sometimes… check out StimuWrite.

You can set it to make little sounds as you type (or leave them off), and emojis pop up in the corner. You can change the background, dark and light themes, set your word goal, and it gives you a percentage and total word count at the bottom. Though it’s more meant for getting a draft written up, so it doesn’t have spell check or anything like that. You’re meant to just copy and past what you write here into Google Docs or Word or Scrivener or whatever else you use and go from there. Honestly love it when I’m struggling to get words down, though. And apparently there’s an update now for StimuWrite 2?👀

Israel has done what we all predicted and warned about. Simple, pure evil. They pushed Palestinians by carpet bombing everywhere till they all had to go to the least bombed place (No, Rafah was never completely safe. They were bombed there, too, to a horrific degree), and then, after cramming what nears a two million civilians with about 600 thousand children, they are asking them to leave... to where?! Nowhere. They are just saying leave. So then, when they kill them all, they can say 'Oh, we warned them'

Rafah is now the most densely populated place in the world, with a population of about 1.5 million and prehaps more in 64 km2. About 25 miles squere.

Leaflets have been dropped on Rafah by the IOF for evacuation orders to “temporary safe zones” in the middle of Gaza and other southern parts of Gaza. There are no safe zones in Gaza, these are blatant psychological games. There are 1.3+ million humans in Gaza, where are they supposed to go?
