So one thing I've been thinking a lot recently, regarding His Dark Materials, is the way Lyra and Will's last kiss, the one with the doorway between worlds, parallels Marisa and Asriel's one in Northern Lights, in the sense that they are the complete opposite of one another.

Aside from the fact that they both happen in front of a portal, and that it is heartbreaking because neither of them would pass together thought it, think of this :

The odds have always been against Marisa and Asriel's relationship. First because she was married, and then the whole scandal and the shame that came after, and the hate and all that. There was not one time when the odds were on their side. Meanwhile, Will and Lyra's romance was written in the stars. They were tied together by fate, and so there was never any chance that they wouldn't be together.

And then comes the point where they are both standing in front of those gates, together, and suddenly there is nothing that's keeping Marisa and Asriel from being together. They have managed to get there on their own - now, they have the chance to continue together. Will and Lyra, on the other hand, are standing there for the sole purpose of the fact that they can't, after all, be together, even thought it was written in the stars and it was their destiny.

Marisa refused to go with Asriel because she doesn't dare to, or because she wants to find Lyra, according to either the book or the TV show. Asriel doesn't protest to that because he has a war to wage. They let each other go and missed the only chance they had at a fresh start because they loved other things more, because they would not put each other first.

However, Will and Lyra didn't want to join one another because their lives would be shorter, and their death would pain the one who survived, were they to live in the same world. They accepted that they couldn't be together, and let each other go, because there was no one else they loved more.

I have this very random HDM headcanon that Marisa was blonde, but sometime after moving to England, she died her hair brown, because she felt like she looked too much like her mother, and she wanted to be someone different.

This is because I sometimes imagine her as blonde, other times as brunette, so I just made this thing up. It also adds up with the books, since it says in the first book that her hair is dark/black, and in the third that it is blond - if she really did dye her hair, then of course she didn't take hair dye with her in that cave.

Young Masriel au [part 1: First meeting]: Recently returned from one of his expeditions, Asriel plans to crash one of Edward Coulter's exclusive dinner parties for networking purposes. At the door he's greeted by a mysterious and attractive young woman, who turns out to be married to the party host and coincidentally one of his biggest political rivals.

Just listened to the 1989 (Taylor's Version) vault tracks and I'm here to say that 'Now That We Don't Talk' and 'Is It Over Now?' are very Masriel coded.

One thought I have about daemons is that most characters had pretty small ones because, since they lived in a city, their personalities couldn't develop as much. Someone who would grow up outside of a city, in the wild perhaps, would have plenty more opportunities to develop certain qualities and survival skills, so their daemons would be most likely to settle into something less common, more impressive.

I may be wrong, but this is something I've thought about.

Hear me out : a 'His Dark Materials' x 'The Secret History' Au in which Lee is Richard, Asriel is Henry, Marisa and Marcel are Camila and Charles and Jopari is Francis. (I have no idea who Bunny could be). I think the vibe overall matches, more than the characters themselves do. Also, all of them would have daemons, because I am obsessed with the concept of daemons.

I want everyone to consider how interesting a book about Baruch and Balthamos would be. It would be set in Will's world, so no daemons, but a love story between a human and an angel is top tier. We could also have more info about Xaphania's war (something I want to know more about), and about Metatron.

The book could start around when they first meet, and then it would go spiral from there, and we could have mutual pining and a lot of religious references. It would be the most Hozier-coded book ever written.

And it could also get in depth about the relationship between Baruch and Metatron, and why Metatron was so evil (I can totally imagine Baruch being hurt and confused about his brother's behavior, and perhaps feeling guilty later that he did nothing to prevent it). Of course, a backstory would not excuse Metatron's deeds, but it would perhaps explain them, and add to the relationship between him and Baruch.

Xaphania could also make an appearance, since in the show, she did know Baruch - I know that does not apply to the books as well, but I like the idea of her, Baruch and Balthamos all knowing each other.

I think such a book would work better from Baruch's POV, with him slowly finding out more about angels, other worlds and things like that, and it could end with dying and turning into an angel, joining Balthamos.

I just think their relationship is very poetic.
