Final Artifact

This is the final artifact we had from the assignment. It's the 2 posters we had printed out and placed aganist a board attached to a mop taped on top of a trolley so it would be easier to maneuver around. On it there are markings made by the people with markers we asked to answer which one they had thought was AI and the other was made by a human. I expected not everyone to get it right and it seems that was true but what i did not expect was to for both to get evenly marked showing me that the line between AI and human is blurrier than i thought.

Final Documentation

Materials: Paper, Cardboard, Mop, Trolley, Tape, Markers
Dimensions: Top paper 18x24, Bottom Paper 10x18
For this project we went along with the proposal of having 2 images compared to each other with one being made from an AI and another made from a person that being use with the purpose being if people would be able to tell which one made which image. We printed out the 2 images and stuck them onto a board that was attached to a mop on top of a trolley, a contraption we used to easily maneuver the artwork around the place. The location we chose to do this assignment was the dolphin mall as it was full of people who could interact with the piece and we had moderate success.

After altering and merging our group’s ideas, we came up with a concept that symbolically tackles the sentence we made while being possible to execute. The finalized proposal is that of an interactive “guessing game” piece. It would take the form of a series of 4 hung posters, not extremely small, like A4 paper, but not too large either, like a banner. Rough sizes for the posters are about 3’ x 2’, or 36” x 24” (though this can be changed last second to accommodate further design choices). The first two posters would be the largest, and would display abstract artwork, with one being hand-drawn digitally by an artist, and the other bring produced by and AI. The other two posters would have text on them with the words “EFFICIENCY” and “INTERACTIVITY”. The interaction comes into play when an individual walks up to the work and is greeted by a question such as “Which piece do you believe was created by a person?” And a second question “Which is more important?”. The first question pertains to the artworks and the second to the text. Viewer’s will be tasked with then marking the posters with a colored marker provided to them by us (given physically or propped up on a table). Depending on which options they guess/choose their mark will be left behind on the posters, in the end providing tangible, countable results and unique new artworks in their own right. The aftermath of the piece will leave the group with artifacts that have been altered/transformed by the people who have seen it. This pertains to our sentence “AI will shape the future, but it’s overuse could lead to much of humanity being left without a job” by showing how advanced artificial art has become, as it can produce works on par with real artists, threatening their jobs, and by allowing the public to make the choice of whether efficiency or interactivity is more important to them, ultimately symbolizing if humanity will make the right choice with regulating the software, or if we prefer results over human interaction and would rather that mass job loss strike.

show pieces of AI that can already do jobs that we do or have already taken up job positions. One example of this would be art pieces, companies, and people are already making massive profits off of AI art which takes up potential jobs The actual artist could’ve done themselves. Another example would be writing, essays and doing homework. Although not as broad or popular as art these things still create potential jobs, such as tutors and people who do homework and essays for money. These are just two examples of many. I want to make these examples myself and paste them in public where they correlate with.

A piece that would involve transforming park pavilion, or similar space, into an interactive experience involving choice. Because the sentence we ended up with, “AI will shape the future of our world, however its overuse may leave much of humanity without a job”, implies the idea that artificial intelligence is inevitable, the entrance to the piece, which would symbolize AI, would NEED to be crossed in order to reach the rest of the piece. This would get across the point that AI will be in the future, however the rest of the piece would involve choice. The viewers may have to choose between various options, each being either AI-based or human-based, and by the end of the experience, their choices would lead them to an ending symbolizing either harmony between man and machine, or poverty cause by AI taking over most employment. This could be accomplished through a maze-like interior containing work done by AI and humans, with the viewers having to navigate the maze by choosing to follow the AI-based work, or the human work. This idea is certainly subject to change, but we feel as though it has potential for a starting point.

AI is becoming more advanced by the day and becoming capable of more and more things that could in the past only be done by humans and with those advancements in technology comes the possibilities of AI completely replacing us in those job positions threatening to put a large number of people worldwide out of work. My project proposal is to make a poster showing off this battle between humanity and AI to keep humans in the work force predominantly as the "winner" and AI to stay as merely a tool as the "loser".

My idea for the third project was to use my backyard as the iconic place since im close with it as i spend alot of time outside in it watching my dog. I made my dog the center piece of the video by making sure i got a camera shot of her in the beginning and end of the video while the rest of the video is me exploring and showed off the rest of my backyard and what it looked like.

For the first project the idea that i came up with to utilize the space was put on myself a creepy yellow smiley mask i had bought from Party City years ago and then go into the room with res intense lighting and then once inside i sit inside the room with my face pressed aganist the glass to creepily stare at outside the glass. I wanted to go with the red lighting to fit with the uncomfortable horror vibe i was going for.
