This is my professional (sfw) page where I will be sharing my journey into lapidary, and all things rock related. This will include photos of my personal collection, rocks I found, rocks in general, projects I'm working on, and products I will be selling at markets. Today’s amazing finds! Found in central Vancouver Island. The quartz is PHENOMENAL! Literally one of my best finds in the wild, while I was looking for agates. Although I didn’t find agates, these more than made up for that 😍

An overview of my rock collection. The cabinet which displays my main showpieces on the two top shelves (also majority of my PS4 collection at the top!). The third shelf has the rest of collection in cases, some being from British Columbia government that I’ve gotten secondhand. My display cases I will do a more in depth post on. On the shelves include a quartz, ammonite, moonstone, blue lace agate, thunder egg, selenite, along with a few others I need to get ID’d. The pouch on the bottom shelf contains sea glass I’ve found. The bottom drawer and cabinet contain my lapidary, and wire wrapping supplies. On my other bookshelf is a deer skull I’ve gotten secondhand, an ammonite, and a candle skull. The shelf above the drawer is my rock “garden” I set up a few rocks from a specialty collection in the drawer, burn incense, and have special crystals around. There’s lots more to show, but will do in other posts. Flatlapping a special rock today!

Some of the pieces I’m currently flatlapping, and polishing. An agate tear, watermelon tourmaline slice, random rock that looks like the inside of a tree, and two agate sides.

Found these last summer while on the VIA Rail. These are from Blue River, BC. The rocks there and at Valemont were sooo unique. These were just from around the train stop.

One of my favorite things about rocks, is that each individual one tells a story. Where the earth was, where it is, and eventually where it will be. A dear friend once told me that "Every time you cut open a rock, you're the first person to ever see that" ❤ I don't know what it was about that, but it motivated and moved me deeply. I have struggled to both get the confidence to start my lapidary due to an abusive ex who holds weight in my local community, but also the patience, time, and practice it takes to truly learn every aspect of the craft. However due to a new community hobby club I have joined, medication, and motivation, I am truly following my dreams! This is my page to track my journey, share my creations/finds/buys, reblog things I love, but most importantly, tell stories with rocks.
So for my first post, I will tell perhaps the most important rock story of them all to me, and that is of my Grandpa. Grandpa was and is my hero. He loved and accepted me for who I was, and was one of the only people who truly understood me. Although we were opposites in many beliefs, and values, Grandpa and I were always in kahootz! We were like two cowboys against the world. Grandpa passed in September of 2024. He had been sick for awhile, however we didn't expect anything to take him from us so soon. He had a heart attack... I was with him the last week of his life, before I had to leave and come home. Then I went out about a month later to say goodbye...
That last week with Grandpa was unforgettable. We had a pub night, smoked, and talked lots. That week Grandpa gave me some very special rocks that his uncle had gotten during the 1900's himself when he was travelling. These rocks I cherish more that one can imagine, and I may gatekeep them forever. But when I went back to say goodbye to Grandpa, I got to visit the farm that he and his sister grew up on. I rockhounded, and found some gorgeous pieces. The make up of rocks there was soooo fascinating. The colors, variety, and everything else. I planned to make jewelry for my Grandpa's sister, as well as his girlfriend. These are those rocks, and they tell the story of my Grandpa, on the farm with his mother, father, and sister. Of his rabbits, of throwing his sister in a mud puddle, and of the hard work, love, and values that shaped him. Every rock tells a story, and Grandpa this one is for you ❤
