I do think the 2003 anime did Yugi dirty by focusing on Atem angst and shit (even if I love it)

But I kind of disagree that Yugi wasn't given any credit.

Like if you watch the duels Yugi is constantly talking, throwing out ideas, giving suggestions. The dub even includes Yami's thoughts in Yugis voice, to really drive in the emphasis that its both.

Atem doesn't take credit for his duels, not really. He always says it's him and Yugi working together, and oftentimes includes their friends for suggestions thrown out, or for their ideas he uses (usually Jou's.)

Atem's real skill is his leadership, usually in the form of charisma. He's great at pulling people together to drive them to better themselves. He brings out Yugi's talent in strategy, Jou's talent as a protector, and Anzu's confidence to not care about others and be truer to her passions. He's good at games, but I don't think it's a confidence that his role in Monster World was a player instead of a character.

That is to say, he works as a figurehead--almost a series mascot--despite the fact that Yugi is the actual main character. That's kind of his job, even in universe. He was a King, his job is kind of to be a figurehead of strong charisma anyway.

I don't mean that it's Totally Fair for Yugi to be pushed to the side, of course. It isn't. The DSOD movie spends plenty of time reinforcing that fact. Yugi is the Duel King who's never lost a duel. Yugi is the one who usually solves the problem of the week, the one who thinks things through. He's the one who set Black Chaos, he's the one who solved the win condition for Memory World, he's the one who beat Kaiba and Aigami on his own. The only game he lost was the dragon block game, which was also a shadow game to begin with.

(I think it's pretty obvious the reason Yami usually shows up is because of Pegasus scaring the shit out of both of them by almost killing Yugi. Never again.)

Yugi usually is the one to come up with the strategy mid game. I mean, it kinda gets spelled out with the Silent archetype.

I guess where I'm going with this is that Atem's vice certainly is pride, and he does have his moments, but i don't particularly agree it manifests outwardly. Kaiba is the only one who really gets him going like that, but I kind of see it as the way their friendship works.

His pride usually shows in his stubbornness to try and do literally everything by himself and to consistently try falling on the sword. Refusing help is a form of selfishness that he keeps falling for. And he consistently goes surprise Pikachu face when people insist on helping.

He doesn't really take credit for anything. He always shares it with Yugi and his friends. If asked, he'd probably just say he helped.

Basically Atem is Yugis number 1 fan and probably agrees Yugi should be on all of the merchandise.

Ryou felt a bit like a rabbit being circled by a hungry hawk. Mariku had almost an airy quality to the way he took each step. Ryou did, indeed, turn as to match Mariku's movements.

He tried to keep his nervousness hidden. But as soon as Mariku reached a hand in to clear his face of the loose strand of hair, his nerve broke momentarily and he let out a quiet sound of anxious surprise. He pulled away from the touch with a startled look, which soon was replaced with a hard expression.

He had to stay strong. Ryou wasn't sure what to make of Mariku or what his intentions were just yet.

But then Mariku's next words crept into his ears...inflicting his mind with a sharp pang of doubt and confusion.

Right...he never really met Mariku. Only the ring spirit had ever met him face to face. But then..

And finally, the pot boiled over. He quickly stepped backwards away from Mariku and gestured with a swing of his arm in frustration. "Wh-? Who- How do you know my name, then?! What do you want?!" It came out a tad more fearful sounding than he had hoped - mixed into his agitated state. He wanted answers, fast.

Ryou is walking in a hurry to the game shop to browse the table top section before it closes. The sun is slowly going down, but there are at least 2 more hours to go before night falls. It's autumn and the air is bound with the scent of decaying leaves.

Ryou is peacefully humming a jingle from a commercial while he sets out toward his mission, until he hears a deep, male voice from behind speak and break his idle internal thoughts.

He quickly spins around to face the owner of the voice. The cold air suddenly seems to drop a few degrees.

What??..

He's stunned into a wide eyed silence. His eyes...could they be playing tricks on him?? This couldn't be right... His pupils dilate with fear and he stands frozen in place.

He remembered this guy... Ryou had been mostly kicked back into the soul room during that time, but he recogized him. Marik...yes...he was the one that caused so much pain for his friends! It was flooding back into his mind.

'I wanted it to be memorable. Just not...that memorable.'

"Wh-Wha...I...You! You're not supposed to be here!!" Ryou stammers, his mind whipped into in a mental frenzy. He tries to snap out of it and do...something. But it's like his brain momentarily short circuits.

This is a fairly experimental rp blog for Ryou Bakura. I'm hoping this will be a good muse for me, but I guess time will tell. (If things don't work out, I might try another muse.)

I can't say for certain how close to canon my Ryou will be.

I might as well say right now, a quick note about shipping: I think deathshipping and tendershipping are my favorites with Ryou. I can try to go into more detail later, I guess. (That doesn't mean I don't like other ships, though. Like, I think I see potential for heartshipping.)

I am not a very speedy rper, unfortunately. It could take me a while to respond. ("A while" meaning more than a week or something like that.) Not always this slow, but I just want to warn ahead of time.
