I HAVE SO MUCH THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THEM BUT IDK HOW TO WORDS MY THOUGHTS SO I'M SORRY IF IT'S BAD-

• Already, I consider that their relationship has always been a bit strained in a relative bittersweet from a certain age in their lives. I really like the precision in the text of the official film "The Crimes of Grindelwald" (I haven't seen the third film yet) where it is specified that the hug at the end is the first one that Newt gives to his brother.

• I like to think it was Theseus who first encouraged Newt to look after the creatures when he was a child, having seen him in the garden looking after one of them. It was the first time he'd seen his brother so happy.

• Although it will never come out of either of their mouths, Theseus is afraid of thunderstorms and Newt might still be giving his brother little gifts like sweets on rainy days.

• I think their father was a bit strict and not necessarily the most loving person in the world. Theseus always had a lot of pressure on his shoulders and often took a lot of flak when he publicly encouraged his brother in his dreams

• They have a part of themselves that only each other know and understand despite everything

• They probably found it hard to talk to each other during their years at Hogwarts.

• Newt never blamed Theseus for being Leta's fiancee. Even though he knew his brother knew he'd had feelings for her. Emotional clumsiness at its best

• As a child, Newt was very, very attached to his brother, even though he had always been a very introvert child

• They are both on the autism spectrum but Theseus is better at masking lmao

• Newt would have liked his brother to be a bit more of his hero too (but will never say it)

• Theseus's overprotectiveness has worsened with age and part of Newt hates it as much as he likes the attention it represents

• Newt once named one of his hypogriffs 'Thesi', because of his loyalty and stubbornness

• The two are complete opposites but not that opposite, as Callum would say, and I'd like to think they'll come together in the long run

I did watch them, and The Crimes of Grindelwald is actually one of my favourite movies. I’m so sad we won’t have more. 😭

As for my favourite characters… can I say I love them all? No? Okay then— here’s a little list even if you only ask for one of my fav.

Leta Lestrange: I absolutely adore Leta. Her character and story are really well written, and so, so tragic. I still cry every time…🐦‍⬛ I want her to be happy and loved with her Scamanders (at least she loved them til the end. 😭)

Theseus Scamander: I mean— Ho boy, what a man. I’m WEAK for him. 🫠 He is the complete opposite of Newt, but somehow they are so alike??

Jacob Kowalski: He put a smile on my face every time I see (and read about) him. A No-Maj in the Wizarding World? He is the BEST in the first movie. And when they gave him a wand… why is he so cute?

Newt Scamander: I’m obsessed! The way he is with magical beasts vs people? Perfection! He is so chaotic neutral, I love him. I put him in #4, but I do think the first four characters here are all my #1?

Queenie Goldstein: She could have been higher in my list, but she lost so many points with her love potion in the second movie… HOWEVER, her relationship with Jacob is everything to me, and in the first movie, she was perfection. 💖 I want her to be a true baddie. She has the profile for!

Credence Barebone: Traumatized, powerful, tragic, lost… and all those plot twits about him???

Nicolas Flamel: He needed to be included in my list for some reason. 😆

Oh and I totally lied… they are all my #1 😎

there are two wolves inside me and they do battle on the daily:

wolf one — the angstiest most irreparable bittersweet hurt/comfort traumatic estranged angry sad perfunctory distant relationship between the Scamander brothers in the worst circumstances ever

wolf two — Theseus and Newt existing and getting on 🥹 caring about one another 🫶🏽💞 having fun, even, going on adventures 🥰 the angst is externally imposed not relationship-based and I love them very much and I crave just some good nuanced solid characterisation gen fic and am ready to eat

[angst is my bread and butter, yesss, but I have been dying to write healthier Newt and Theseus. it’s coming up in ‘keep me in mind’ but I keep inventing the saddest one shots when really I want to vibe?]

Just started rewatching merlin. Prepare yourselves, I’m about to make it everyone else’s problem.

Anyways, just noticing how the first nice thing Arthur ever says about Merlin is, “Let him go. He may be an idiot but he’s a brave one”

And later, in the most devastating conversation they ever have, Arthur says “you know Merlin, all those jokes about you being a coward, I never really meant any of them. I always thought you were the bravest man I ever met.”

And just, I’m realizing how true that is. Merlin stood up to him for the first time, and he was probably the first person who ever did. And Arthur thought he was brave, from the very start. He knew Merlin was brave before he knew anything else about him.

And I’m feeling a lot of things about that. They make me insane

I have a lot of little ideas about Theseus and Newt. They're my hyperfixation actually and I can't get them out of my head.

First is "Worrying is suffering twice" it's a pretty angsty with good ending about the two of them talking about how Newt could have been dead in America in the first movie.

Second is a Soulmate AU called "I suffered for us", it's a slow burn in the canon and it's more centered about their relationship in general and how is treated a Bond in the magic universe.

I have a lot more of them, but I can't find words to describe it actually. Thanks you again for asking! Have a good day, don't hesitate to ask me to write for you if you have a idea! ✨

Writing my fanfiction about the scamanders brothers actually and I'm super afraid they're just ooc or not interesting. Maybe I'll find someone to beta this or something at this point I'm getting anxious lmao

incredibly obsessed with the idea that theseus and newt's brotherly relationship was primarily complicated by the festering resentment caused by everyone instinctively praising theseus for doing everything expected of him while the same people looked down on newt. so not theseus being super mean, or newt being considered a total oddball in the family, but just...

...just the slow and gentle application of external pressure after external pressure.

to the point where if theseus says, 'you know, i think you're smart', newt doesn't even believe him. to the point where newt is wishing for something to go wrong in theseus's life, just once, and then crying with the guilt. to the point theseus nearly breaks under the weight of expectations and catches himself thinking he 'can't end up like newt'. to the point where, while theseus knew and loved newt before all the outsiders defined their relationship for them, newt only ever knew theseus when he was being compared to him, and so never truly 'saw' him, just as theseus spent years not quite understanding newt either

teenage Theseus being quite anxious and strict and intense but also caring for Newt like a mother would because their mother isn’t really there. my Roman Empire. fighting in the morning and lecturing Newt about schoolwork during the day and Theseus tucking Newt into bed in the evening. giving him a hug if Newt has nightmares and comes into Theseus’s bed to sleep because he’s scared. Theseus being a typically moody overly-academic slightly dismissive teenage boy but also trying so hard to be nurturing. usually falling but it’s the best Newt has

every day I wake up and imagine how good fantastic beasts could have been with a multicultural and historically informed and thoughtful writers’ team and an ability to deliver on its interesting 20% fleshed out concepts and no JKR and the female characters treated well and — I could go on.
