Back to animating again, and this time of Thomas while doing the final test of my approach like the Gordon one.
Again, not a final, just an animatic to show how I've been practising to draw any engine from their wheel arrangement than animating the upper part first.

The Railway Series Animated - selected artists behind the books (Payne, Kenney and Edwards)
This may upset some people for not including the rest of the artists behind Wilbert Awdry's Railway Series and my decision to have Alexander Reginald Payne, John T. Kenney and Gunvor and Peter Edwards. I'll explain for all three of not selected artists. Again, this is not me being judgemental and not liking their work, but that their style has never been used before. Well apart from Clive Spong.
Starting with William Middleton, he didn't put much effort into his drawings and thought the books won't be a success. I can understand his frustration as he had been working as a lithographic artist rather than a commercial one. But the iconic pieces he did do for those books, barring illustrations, I do want to bring back.
Clarence Reginald Dalby is indeed on the list. But mostly his landscape art and how it was brought by Kenney and Peter Edwards. His engines, to me, are all over the place. While I like his skills of drawing landscapes and having vivid and bright colours in his art, as far as his understanding of replicating Payne's engines... isn't seating well with me. When looking at his designs, there are instances of him drawing Gordon with quite a tiny firebox and quite small. His Henry changes from 4-6-2 to 4-6-0 in some books.
Clive Spong's style was originally my first attempt at replicating his, but ended up scrapping it. To be fair, he did use the same face on every engine, so far but he was and still is really good. And the change from replicating early designs and developing his own style.
And that's about it. I've been trying to add more info about this, that's everything I have. At the time of writing this, I've caught cold, and there can be some bits I tend to forget. Fortunately, I do feel a bit better.

This version of my animated series' opening credits was made using Adobe After Effects.
Note: When I first did this I noticed the fast blur. But I decided not to fix it as it's only a test.

While we only have 2 paintings that Payne did while doing his work for Wilbert's second volume.
After some successful attempt at emulating his style, I was able to land on a perfect hybrid for all of the first 5 of 8 Famous Engines between Kenney's and Payne's Edward, whilst keeping his design akin to his later appearances.

Did you know: This one showing a front-on view of Thomas was done following my redraw of an initial poster for 'All Engines Go'. This design had a rectangular but curved eyes, a simplified Westinghouse pump and some E2 features on Thomas' side tanks.
