Meet this Big Bad Wolf, he may be easily spotted because of the tattoo on his back and his aesthetic long blond hair walking barefooted around the tiny island. A simple "hello where are you come from?" brings up the chance to get to know this extraordinary creature who gave my friend and myself his pearly white teeth smile and the shy looks from his dazzling eyes the first time we talk. Although we notice he tries to hide his shyness but anyone can easily see it right through. He didn't fit to the lifestyle boxes that most people used and labelled as "normal". He swirls passion in his eyes when he talk math, science, and all the cool stuff he discovered himself without having to sit inside boring classroom just like what most of us did. As a person who love to interact with many people, I am easily captivated knowing any man who have the guts to speak up what they want, and do what they feel right for their own life even its not always perfect. I was delighted by the chance I got spending a little time with him and knowing this man on the road I take and featured him on my instagram feed. Our path might only be crossed once or maybe more later in life. Nonetheless he has shared good vibes and positivity of freedom to me...a mere outsider and observer of his unique world. An interesting article by Jesse Hirvelä, about the history old Sami people from Finland.
The Sami are arguably the only indigenous people within the European Union. They are concentrated in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula of Russia…

“When the Great Creator created the ancestors of the Sami people, he laid down in the middle of the earth the living and beating heart of a two-year-old reindeer cow, so that when the Sami people are in trouble, they can put their ear to the ground and listen for the heartbeats from below. If the heart is still beating, this means there is still a future for the Sami people, and whatever problems they have can be solved in one way or another. From the beating of the female reindeer heart deep in the earth there is a line to the beating of the Sami drum and the ancient times when the songs of the people were developed and performed-the songs that tell the story and continue to renew the Sami people’s belief in their future.”
-Harald Gaski
Gaski is a Sami scholar who has worked in the School of Languages and Literature at the University of Tromsø, Norway. He has written numerous scholarly articles on the Sami and participated in the American Indian-Scandinavian Sami cultural exchange program.
This is an excerpt from an article published in American Indian Culture and Research Journal, The Sami People: The “White Indians" of Scandinavia.

Disney whitewashing? Kristoff Isn't dark enough for ya?
Okay it seems that another side of the Frozen white wash controversy is that Kristof is supposed to be based on Sami people, an indigenous population in Norway. So many of you here assume that Kristoff should look more like the guy on the right.
Tumblr media
LET ME TELL YOU WHY THAT’S BULLSHIT
Here’s what most Sami people look like today.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SURPRISE SURPRISE! THEY’RE MOSTLY WHITE!
Also, since this is a movie that takes place possibly in 19th century Norway here’s what Sami people looked like back then. Again, THEY’RE MOSTLY WHITE!
So don’t assume that all indigenous people are tan. Do your research people! Also, here’s a comment from an actual Sami person about Kristoff.
Tumblr media
So yeah, unless if you’re actually a Sami, don’t try to speak on behalf of them unless you know their culture or how they really look like. So stop darkening the Sami to fit your agenda.

Herding Reindeer Across Lapland with @annamariafjellstrom
To see more of Anna-Maria’s nomadic arctic life, follow @annamariafjellstrom on Instagram.
Extending across the northern edge of Scandinavia, the arctic Sápmi region is home to the indigenous people called the Sami. “We Sami calls ourselves the ‘people with eight seasons,’ and each season means different types of work with the reindeer,” explains Anna-Maria Fjellström (@annamariafjellstrom), who returned north after college for the nomadic life of a reindeer herder.
“In spring, summer and autumn, reindeer graze in the mountains close to the Norwegian border,” Anna-Maria explains. As colder weather approaches, Anna-Maria and her fellow Sami guide their herds eastward toward the more temperate pine forests of the Baltic coast. With snowmobiles and skis, Anna-Maria protects her flock from predators. “We guard them in the winter area until the spring, when we return to the mountains before their new calves are born.”
