Severus swore under his breath as the muggle 8 Track player on his workbench cut out again, just before the chorus of Look Back in Anger hit. One day he’d find a way to stop magic from affecting muggle technology. It wasn’t so bad at home, but it was near impossible to have something work for longer than ten minutes at the apothecary and Severus would be damned before he listened to the wireless - the magical world just simply couldn’t compare when it came to art. With a sigh he removed the Lodger cartridge, placing it in the drawer of the workbench. The open door to the shop and the relative silence the lab had fallen into meant that sounds from the shop drifted in.

Hearing the once familiar voice, he froze. Was anyone in the shop? He couldn’t hear John chatting away. It was hardly the reunion that he had often envisaged but he hardly had any other options. With a heavy sigh he made his way through the lab and hovered in the doorway, summoning courage he didn’t have.

“Can I help you, Evans?” He drawled, arms crossing over his chest.

Lily froze upon hearing that all too familiar voice. Of course she expected to run into him one day, it was unavoidable really, but she had foolishly chosen to pretend that day would never come; yet here it was. Severus’ voice rang through her like a dull knife pushing against an old wound, and in a way it was just that, the tearing open of an old pain she had never quite gotten over but instead had rather chosen to bury deep down; after all, they had been best friends once, as thick as thieves. It wasn’t so easy to just toss the pain of such a betrayal aside. Her back remained to him for a brief moment as she worked to contain her emotions, a deep breath grounding her before she turned to face her old friend. “ --- no, Severus, I am quite alright thank you. I’m just out with a friend who needed help with some errands. “
