Newbie ceramic question! If a bone-dry greenware piece got chipped prior bisque fire, and it was already painted w underglaze, would it be possible to attach new clay to the area and then paint over? My studio mates are saying you can’t add clay to something that’s already bone dry :(

you can attach clay to bone dry pottery!
it’s not guaranteed to work, but if you use paper clay, especially if it has vinegar in it, it is possible

this is my best photo example of it, this little dude’s tail broke off and I reattached it when he was bone dry

the patch is a little ugly, but with underglaze it’s not that noticeable. and the little chunk you lost on your piece should be fairly easily replaced, since it’ll sit on top and doesn’t have to hold two things together.
I’d score the clay a little, use a bit of vinegar to prep the spot, then add the paper clay. I usually try to get some of the moisture out of the paper clay first, so it’s closer to the same level of dryness as the piece

a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?
come on

An interesting and underappreciated part of crane anatomy. Worth keeping in mind if you ever draw one!
