I passed a playground
with a cemetery
just across the fence,
not even 6 feet between.
I like to think that
perhaps
the spirits and souls across the fence
find joy in watching the children play.

I haven鈥檛 seen the stars
As clear as this
In
Maybe years?
Maybe never.
But,
It wasn鈥檛 clear enough.
I wanted to tell the world,
Shut off the lights!
Let me see them!
Let me see the stars!
Why can鈥檛 I see them all?
How beautiful must it be?
The entire twinkling sky,
Unfiltered by light.
I can point out constellations,
But only a few.
Orion,
I鈥檝e always known his Belt.
But the Big Dipper?
I circled the sky,
Head thrown back,
Searching for that spoon.
But I couldn鈥檛 find it.
I haven鈥檛 seen the true night sky
Enough times in my life
To find even the most famous constellation.
I want to truly see the stars.
I want to study the sky,
Gazing.
But,
The night sky has never been this clear.
And it still
Wasn鈥檛 clear enough.

Orange Painted Toes
Messy polish job
With color all over the sides of my toes
Uneven, hasty layers
Nail polish staining my fingers
But
The color orange
Reminds me of you.

Somehow,
All my problems seem insignificant,
As we watch YouTube video essays
With your head
Resting on my lap.

Daffodils
I want to plant daffodils in my future yard
So when,
100 years from now,
When my house is demolished for some kind of greed,
That my daffodils might survive,
regrowing, year after year
As proof of the loving home that once stood there.
