Durr Monkey mining coal at the top of a mountain. I think coal mining above ground, where you can easily find it, is one of the best ways to get XP in the early part of the game.

I spot trouble ahead, across the river. A band of pillagers has spawned in the mountains, near my little mountain house.

Heading home from the mountains after a long day of outdoor mining for coal. I like it when I spawn in a mountain zone in Minecraft. It鈥檚 very easy to find coal above ground if you run around the mountain area and just look for spots where the coal is visible. It鈥檚 also a very fast way to get XP.

Durr Monkey hanging out with his best buddies -- the llamas that live in the hills above his mountain home. Durr Monkey thinks llamas are the best.
Some interesting facts about llamas:
Llamas are great for protecting herds of smaller animals. Small to medium sized predators know that you don鈥檛 mess with llamas.
Llamas are smart when protecting the herd. They understand the difference between your friendly neighborhood dog and a wild coyote.
Llamas can communicate by humming.
Llamas are genetic cousins to camels. They belong to a group of animals called camelids, which also includes alpacas.
The first appeared on the plains of North America about 40 million years ago. About 3 million years ago, they migrated to South America.
They were first domesticated and used as pack animals 4,000 - 5,000 years ago in Peru.
Llamas in Minecraft can be captured with a lead, but you cannot tame them and ride them like you can with horses. That鈥檚 too bad, because Durr Monkey would look pretty fantastic riding a llama into the sunset.

Taming a chicken in Minecraft. Taming chickens is one of the first thing Durr Monkey does in his new survival world in Minecraft. Chickens are awesome. They lay eggs and you can kill them for food and feathers. Feathers are useful for making arrows. Arrows kill bad zombies and other monsters.
