A writer friend told me something that broke my heart a little bit today; they're going to quit publishing their fanfic.

My instant thought was that they had been trolled or attacked or that something terrible had happened in their life because this person is so passionate about their writing. It wasn't any of that. Engagement with their works has been going down, as it has for many of us. Comments are like gold dust a lot of the time, and just looking through the historical comment counts on old fics on ao3 demonstrates this trend very clearly. It was not simply the comments dropping off which caused them to decide to stop posting, however.

My friend came across a discord server for their fandom (I should point out here that their fandom interest and mine diverged a couple of years ago, we stay in touch but don't currently read each other's posts because I'm not into their fandom and they would rather gouge their eyes out with a wooden spoon than read anything Star Wars) and specifically to share fic in that fandom. They joined, because we all love a good fic rec, only to discover that their latest multichapter fic, which has almost no comments and very few kudos, is being hotly discussed in this server as one of the best stories ever. Not one of these people has bothered to say this to them on the fic. When they asked, none of participants could see the point in telling the author of the fic they apparently loved so much that they love it.

This discovery has absolutely destroyed my friend's love of sharing fic. They share because they love seeing other people's enjoyment, and fic writers do that through comments and kudos/reblogs/likes because we don't get paid. There is no literary critic writing a blog post/article about how amazing the story is for us to copy and keep/frame. There is no money from royalties. All we have are the words of the people reading our works.

Those people on that server could have taken five minutes of the time they spent gushing about how amazing my friend's story was to other people and used it to tell the one person guaranteed to want to hear that praise how much they loved it. They could have taken a moment to express their opinion to the person who spent hours upon hours plotting, writing, editing, and posting those chapters. Instead, they deprived my friend of thing that keeps them sharing their writing, and in the process have killed their love of it. My friend now feels used and unmotivated.

I won't be sharing a link to their fic, they said I could share their experience but not their identity. I know they plan to post one final chapter. I know they intend to express their hurt at being excluded from the praise for the thing they created, and I know they intend to announce that as a consequence they will not be posting for a long while, if at all.

So please, I beg you, don't hide your love of a story from the writer. It's just about the only thing we have.

i will say this as a person who is not white: i think being called racist as a white person is like way lower stakes than anyone makes it out to be. and like, the reality is that white people have an inflated sense of anxiety about what being called Racist Means when like. let's be fucking real for a second. it does not meaningfully often result in Material Violence to a person for being "called racist." and I think being racist is just a thing that happens. and like if we are going to say that being accidentally racist from time to time is something that like, is relatively low stakes, that has to go hand in hand with being like. ok well I guess i should take some time to think about why someone might think I'm racist and like Do something about that.

like I think the paranoia and anxiety about how Being Called Racist is something that Does Violence to People is rooted in a white guilt racialized anxiety and if I am going to be real with you I do not think it is based in material reality. you can be a little uncomfortable it's not the end of the world. i think it's frustrating as a racialized person to see so many white people more frantically hand-wringing over the prospect of being called "racist" than over the prospect of Being Racist. it's annoying to say the least.

Narrative support in IWTV for a transfem reading of Daniel Molloy + Imagine Armand forcefemming Daniel

Note: I will use both "he" and "she" pronouns in this post depending on if Daniel has realized she's a girl yet.

I felt like I had to make a proper writeup after posting a shitpost.

Canonical things about Daniel Molloy that helps me see the character as transgender, specifically I see her a pre-transition trans girl instead of a cis boy.

-Daniel is 20 years old and struggles with substance abuse (alcohol and drugs like cocaine). It is common for trans people to self-medicate their dysphoria with substances.

-Daniel is suicidal. (When he asks Louis to turn him, the implication is that it will involve Daniel dying.) Trans people tend to be suicidal, especially when they don't have access to medical transition.

-"I could be your Lestat, your Claudia". Daniel does not have any issues identifying with a woman/womanhood.

-When Daniel slept with a girl in high school, he had her wear a paper bag. Also, Daniel was interested in coffin sex with Louis. Both things obscure sight. Trans people may not like being Perceived or looked at during sex, which is something fraught because it involves the body.

-Young Daniel is submissive and transfems tend to be submissive.

-Just because Louis is a gay man doesn't mean he's obligated to like or sleep with any guy. But consider: Daniel isn't a man, and somehow Louis could tell, so he just never hooks up with Daniel.

OK, now consider Armand.

-Louis told Armand he wanted Daniel to live, so Armand can't exactly harm Daniel, but Armand could do something else right?

-Imagine Armand kidnapping Daniel, keeping him in a basement and drugging him. 🥰

-It's Estrogen. Armand is giving Daniel it through pills and injections and this does freak Daniel out because he has no idea what he's being given and he has no way of resisting Armand. Also Armand makes him eat food, especially burgers and milkshakes (protein and fat to help Daniel's boobs grow big). Daniel becomes bigger and healthier when before he was thin and unhealthy.

-Daniel quits every single drug except for what Armand gives him. And at first, Daniel thinks he's not being given anything at all and its placebos or something, because nothing happens after he takes the drugs. He doesn't get high, and that's a mindfuck.

-Daniel and Armand start a romantic/sexual relationship at some point, and Daniel notices his body is changing over time.

-Armand gaslights Daniel in the face of very obvious physical evidence, which means Daniel knows Armand is lying, as like, a bit. For example, Daniel wears Armand's hoodie, but because Daniel's tits keep on getting bigger, he outgrows the hoodie. Also, imagine Daniel ruining one of Armand's dress shirts because a button pops right off.

Daniel: Armand, have you been giving me estrogen???

Armand: I have no idea what you mean, nothing has changed.

Armand says this while he's sucking Daniel's tits and also fondling them. And Daniel knows, his entire boob use to fit in Armand's mouth, but it doesn't anymore. It also used to fit in Armand's hand, but now it's spilling out too.

-It turns out that after awhile, Daniel feels happy. His mind feels in alignment with his changed body and he feels a bliss that he would usually only be able to access if he's high or drunk, but he's not. He's sober and he's happy and Armand can tell when he drinks Daniel's blood and Armand is pleasantly surprised too because the blood he usually drinks isn't happy, but this blood came from a person who is very happy!

-Daniel eventually realizes she's a girl.

-Armand's motive for drugging Daniel is simple. Armand's companion is a gay man so to get rid of competition(without murder), just turn the boy into a girl. But Armand forcefemming Daniel turns out to be good because the thing that was driving Daniel toward substance abuse and suicidality was being a closeted transfem. Once she transitioned, she could be happy while sober, because she's happy with her form now.

-Armand found Daniel annoying at first and Armand was trying to humiliate and emasculate Daniel, but this completely fails, because Daniel wanted to be a girl. Armand falls in love over time, because it's fascinating seeing someone become a joyous and happy woman.

-Armand is supportive, he does the same stuff for her as he does in the books (shaving her, buying her clothes), and he refers to her using she/her pronouns and feminine pet names (girlfriend, good girl, miss molloy, etc). And he nurses her through her bottom surgery recovery of course.

I will eventually write this out as an actual fic but I'm unsure where I'm cannibalizing or remixing my own ideas because I already wrote and posted 40,000 words of fic where Armand gently forcefems Daniel (clothes only, no drugs) and she becomes his girlfriend.

Piece of financial advice, because I've seen too many people make this mistake: never pay off medical debt on a credit card unless you are 100% sure you will be able to pay the credit card balance off in full as soon as you get the first bill. Why? It is ALWAYS better to have medical debt than credit card debt. There is a long list of reasons why.

State and federal laws severely restrict medical debt in ways that credit card debt is not restricted.

Credit card debt can charge much higher interest rates, and in general it IS much higher in rate. Medical debt sometimes charges no interest, at least for a certain period of time. When it does charge interest, the rate is lower, and in some states it is capped as low as 5%, always at 20% or lower. Credit card interest rates are almost never below 15% and are sometimes MUCH higher than 20%.

Medical debt is less damaging to your credit history than credit card debt. And it is easier to eliminate in bankruptcy.

Medical debt also does not affect your spending limits on a credit card. If you use a credit card for monthly expenses, adding medical debt to it can bring you closer to your credit limit which might make you unable to use the card for expenses (even ones you could afford to pay off immediately.) This negatively affects your credit rating through increasing your credit utilization, it can reduce your potential to earn rewards, and it can reduce your spending power in an emergency.

Also, the penalties and fees for deliquency on medical debt are much milder and those for credit card debt are more severe. Again, laws are more restrictive on medical debt. You will have far fewer fees or penalties going delinquent on medical debt.

Also it is often easier to get medical debt forgiven or negotiated down, than credit card debt,

If you ever end up with medical debt, keep it as medical debt and keep paying it as medical debt. Go delinquent on your medical debt before switching it to a credit card. Once you put it on a credit card, you can't go back.

By keeping your medical debt as medical debt, you save money, protect your credit history, and increase your chances of having the debt forgiven, negotiated down, or eliminated through bankruptcy.

NEVER CONVERT MEDICAL DEBT TO CREDIT CARD DEBT.

Here's a proper promotional post for the fic I posted a few days ago: 36,000 words of an ongoing Devil's Minion fanfic. I'm guessing it will be about 75,000 words by the end.

The basic premise of the fic is M/F Devil's Minion where Armand is unchanged but Daniel Molloy is a trans girl / woman. The fic title is an "old woman Danielle" pun ^_^

A main point of this fic is Armand being Danielle's boyfriend. He dates her in the 70s (living together, splitting chores, cooking for her, celebrating holidays like Diwali and Halloween, shopping together, etc). There's also Doggirl Danielle Molloy because they do petplay. This fic is rated E for Explicit because they bang a lot.

Danielle gets bottom surgery in 1999. Armand is her nurse, then he dates her again, so Devil's Minion past relationship has happened twice by the time Danielle is at the Dubai penthouse.
