I hope you don't mind if I just... Yoink
It's been weeks, no, months. Attempt after attempt - the timing could be perfect but it just doesn't work. Kokichi goes to speak, say something, anything... Make the move... And yet no words come out and he doesn't get on his knee. The position is so... vulnerable. He'd be putting his heart out there for somebody else to see, to hear, to answer. That's not his style. "I've gotta do it!" He says to himself. "Tomorrow!" But again he'd say "tomorrow" and "tomorrow" once more. He needs a way to force himself to ask, even if it means being vulnerable.
As he wakes up one morning, he looks towards his still-sleeping boyfriend. Soft hair draped over his face, his closed eyelids hiding the beautiful yellow eyes underneath. Kokichi brushes his hair aside to see Shuichi's cute face and delicate features. The thought of doing this every day for the rest of his life causes his heart to flutter and his stomach to turn upside down. Before he could talk himself out of it he reaches into the nightstand on his side of the bed, retrieving the box concealed within. The ring perfectly slides onto Shuichi's finger. Kokichi places a delicate kiss on Shuichi's hand, immediately followed by his forehead. Silently, he sneaks out of the room.
A few hours pass, Kokichi's nerves knawing on him. Every minute feels like an hour. With each passing second he's fighting the urge to take the ring back and hide it somewhere Shuichi would never find it.
"Um, Kokichi?"
"Good morning darling, dearest, true love of mine! ... At least that's what I would say if it was before noon."
Shuichi shook his head taken aback. "I'm sorry about that, but, uh, what's with this ring? It was on my finger when I woke up..."
"Oh it's nothing, just the symbol of my devotion and desire to spend eternity together. It's really not special at all."
"Are you asking me to marry you...?"
"Why? Do you want to? In that case, I do!"
"Uh, okay? I guess? Yeah?" Shuichi's face is all red. Kokichi kisses him.
"Great, so, when's the wedding? You know, I've always imagined having it in summer, although winter could be beautiful, what do you think Shuichi?"
"Either one?"
"Perfect! Let's get married, Shuichi! It's going to be the most fun wedding ever! Let's do it!"
"O-okay!"
"Nishishi! I love you, Shuichi!"
"I love you too."
*chewing on the void in my mind*
I want saiouma proposal
i like Kokichi being the one to propose, it feels right to me and i like the idea of him doing it as a way to show how deep his trust for Shuichi is
what's the most Kokichi way to propose tho? despite the meaning behind it it can't just be some sappy direct shit, that's not how Kokichi does things
perhaps
perhaps he spends a couple months trying and failing to propose without chickening out, the thought of being so direct and unironically getting down on one knee freaking him out a bit. perhaps he wakes up one morning and thinks "i need to stop being a coward, i gotta do something that'll make me push past the fear and do it" and then he gets a bright ass idea
while Shuichi's still conked the fuck out (cause i hc Kokichi wakes up eariler and Shuichi's a heavy sleeper) he slips the ring on Shuichi's finger and waits for him to wake up and realize it's there. because it's such a nice ring there's no way either will be able to brush it off as a prank and Kokichi will have sucessfully cornered himself into getting over himself and proposing
