I don't really agree that this is a low stakes show? A man committed suicide in the first season after experiencing financial ruin. Peggy and her friend had to run for their lives from a lynch mob in the south. Ada's husband died a painful death from cancer. Agnes faced a life of poverty just last season. Some pretty dark and heavy stuff happens in between the opera wars and spats over which silver to use at dinner.

I almost wrote an essay on this last week but it won’t change anyone’s minds, so I won’t waste the energy… but as a period drama fan the whole “nothing happens” and “low stakes” takes (on any period drama TV show, it’s not just one of them) are driving me insane.

I just got described as an "ad hating commie" by someone because I said a minute of youtube ads is unpleasant. fully spent 5 minutes arguing and defending youtube ads. insane stuff
