How to tell someone you’re miscecanis

Casually introduce it.

There’s no need for big “coming out” letters.. Miscecanis is simply a lifestyle that you partake in, and it’s likely you want someone to know because you want them to participate somehow, or you’d just like them to understand you so you can behave a certain way around them. Don’t make it sound like a big deal, otherwise it will become a big deal, and it doesn’t need to be. Start by saying things casually, like “oh my gosh! You have big alpha/beta/omega energy!”. Show them things you like, for example if you’re an omega and like collecting plushies and blankets, tell them about it. Use simple terms, don’t go in depth. Bring things up nonchalantly, in a casual, maybe even silly way. Show them memes, cute aesthetic photos relating to a/b/o, and maybe even read them some excerpts of stories (sfw of course). Maybe tell them a bit about things you like to do, like if you nest, but use discreet terms like “I like to build pillow forts because it makes me comfortable!”. Don’t rush into it, and don’t bring up a bunch of hyper specific terms right away! That will usually put people off. These things are easy to pass off as personality traits, so just start slowly bringing it into the relationship. Gauge their response, if certain things make them uncomfortable, don’t do them anymore. If they seem confused or interested, this leads me into my next point...

Allow them to ask questions.

Undoubtedly, people will have questions. You need to be open to all sorts of questions and be willing to answer them openly and honestly. They will be confused. Some questions may seem offensive, but don’t let your emotions get the best of you. Stay strong and collected while you answer. Plan your responses. Go in depth as much as they’re willing to hear, but....

Don’t overexplain it.

Overexplaining, when not necessary, can make things uncomfortable or go to fast. Take things at a pace that the other person is willing to go. Explain as much as they seem interested in knowing. Don’t say things that are too much information to take in all at once, especially when it comes to omegaverse and miscecanis lifestyle. Don’t be pushy about anything, just answer questions in a calm and casual way.

Be open and honest.

Like stated before, opennness and honesty are the key here. Don’t hide things because they’re “too weird”. If you take it slow and introduce things at a proper pace, going into depth when the time comes is important. Don’t keep things away from someone who’s willing to learn more. You need to tell them what it means to you, what you want from them specifically, why you’re telling them this, and plenty of other important things must be said. Especially if you’re expecting them to participate, be willing to explain everything truthfully. When they’re ready, starting explaining terms. If they’re genuinely interested and want to know more, sending them resources or guides can go a long way. Let them learn things at their own pace as well, if they seem like they’d prefer to do their own research.

Approach it with caution.

Don’t expect them to understand right away. Don’t expect them to accept you at all. You need to approach this with caution and realize that not everyone will be comfortable with this type of thing. And that’s okay. You may be disappointed, but please don’t push someone beyond their comfort limits. We are not entitled to people’s participation and understanding, and we can’t blame them for their comfort zones and what they’re willing to do and not do.

Be understanding. Accept the results.

It may not go the way you want it to. That’s okay. It’s okay. You still have plenty of people who will support you, especially if you have other accepting friends or pack mates. You have a whole online community as well. Whatever the outcome, you must accept the results and not push someone into something. If you expect understanding, then you must be understanding. Don’t freak out and lose control of yourself when things don’t go as you’d hoped. Expect that things like this may happen and move on. Apologize for making them uncomfortable, or tell them it’s okay if they don’t want to be a part of it. Be emotionally mature. Don’t guilt trip or yell. Just accept that things don’t always go as we plan, and move on.

Ultimately, not everyone needs to know.

In the end, Miscecanis is simply a lifestyle choice. It may be a very integral part of you and your identity, but it is not something you should lose friends and family over, since the majority of it is personality traits and acting out your interests. You don’t have to tell someone if you feel they won’t be receptive, you don’t have to tell someone regardless if you don’t want to. If you feel like you absolutely must (for instance, if they’re your partner and you want them to participate or be around you while you do these things), then follow the step listed here to the best of your ability. I really hope you get what you’re looking for out of opening up, and please don’t hesitate to ask any questions here if you need more specific advice. Good luck!

hc: types of food each dynamic craves when upset/self-comforting?

yes i love this!!!

so, you’d probably think the dynamics would crave things that sorta correspond with the way their scents work. like that alphas would crave pizza and omegas would crave cookies and betas would crave fruit or something, but i propose that they would crave complete opposite things than their dynamic would usually want or smell like. why? because they instead crave what other dynamics smell like/would want as a way to feel less alone and have the comfort of others.

alphas would crave all the sweets. donuts, candy, ice cream, cookies, brownies, chocolate, and mild, fruity flavors too.

omegas would crave all the savory. pizza, barbecue, chips, pickles, meats (especially very aromatic stuff like bacon and ham), spicy foods, noodles, and also mild and fruity flavors too.

betas would crave sweet and savory, combinations of both, in fact they’d probably have the wildest cravings of all the dynamics. specifically things like flavored chips (like barbecue chicken or pickle flavored), savory candy, savory oatmeal, ice cream, toffee, pasta salad, sweet barbecue.

basically, the dynamics would crave the foods that correspond with what other dynamics usually eat and/or smell like as a way to feel less alone and to comfort themselves. along with these food choices they’d probably surround themselves in scented clothing and blankets from other dynamics.

Don't worry! They eventually get their happily ever after!! There's a dramatic revelation as a result of MORE misunderstandings. Long story short, O mistakes A's jealousy and hurt as danger and thinks he's going to hurt him and tells him he can do what he likes as long as he doesn't hurt "their" babies. Then A is shocked and they both end up explaining themselves. It'll be a long road to marital bliss, but eventually they get there. A stays jealous, but Other A remains the Cool Uncle to the pups

(cont.) Last part of the Sad Omegaverse Saga: Cool Uncle Alpha ends up with a Beta mate (childhood friend of O) who makes him feel safe even though emotions are confusing (CUA has Alexithymia). A finds out that the pups had been starting to ask about their Daddy and O told them "He went on a very long trip and who knows when he'll be back" and A responds "I finally came back from my trip" and gathers his babies into his arms, scenting them for the first time and crying happy tears. It's all he wanted.

turtles would fit well with betas, similar to how they mesh well with frogs.

fish could honestly work for anyone! since fish vary so much, there’s different reasons fish would work as a good pet choice for all dynamics. for alphas because of how fish can spice up a room! alphas would like bigger fish like those massive decorative tanks, especially huge saltwater ones. they’d totally strive to have the biggest, craziest, and flashiest types of fish. omegas i think would like fish in the more normalized way, like a betta fish or goldfish in a cute tank. omegas would love them just so they can watch them all day long, and give them little treats. i suggested a betta fish or a goldfish for an omega because those fish are capable of developing a sort of relationship with their owners which i think is one of the most important aspects for an omega. and since they can’t hold their fish, they’d at least be able to become closer with them. for betas, i think they’d really like owning one of those tank stands in their bedroom or something so they can always be close to the fish, and they’d probably be the ones to breed fish as a hobby and just overall be so obsessed with the specific types and all sorts of different fish environments. and i just know they’d be all over decorating aquariums.

oh yeah, definitely! i mean honestly everyone loves dogs. i just feel like alphas would prefer them the most so they can do physical stuff w them!! my list is only very general and ofc everyone is different :) and like i said i think every dynamic could appreciate a dog hehe

dogs! alphas are unabashedly loyal and similar in their own respects to dogs. i think they would desire a pet that would listen to them, one that would be by their side no matter what. also, dogs like to play hard, and i see alphas wanting a pet they can tussle with and do physical activity with if it’s something they like. also, i think they’d really love training and teaching commands.

ferrets! going along with the theme of playful alphas, i think they’d really enjoy a hyperactive pet like a ferret! always chasing them around and they’d just have toys all over their house lol. imaging an alpha walking around with a lil ferret around their neck is so wholesome aahhh!! and ferrets can be adorable lil snuggle buddies too, which i’m sure any alpha would appreciate (even though they may never admit it.)

horses! again going along with the active theme as well as the desire to train, i think alphas would love having a horse. perhaps using them to compete in racing or jumping or sports in general, or maybe even just riding for the pure desire of feeling free and adventurous with the wind in your hair and all with their personal companion. plus alphas wouldn’t mind the upkeep of a stable!

snakes! alphas would be drawn to snakes maybe for the fact that they just look epic in general? or perhaps that they’re dangerous? or maybe as a warning to others that they’re not afraid of anything. or honestly, they just want a snake because SNAKES ARE EPIC!! instead of a ferret scarf around the alpha’s neck, imagine a long ball python? epic.. also they’d probably name them something silly like “noodle” or “george” tbh. they’re not afraid of their little buddy, and their snake probably has an awesome decked out enclosure that’s themed all spooky-like. they’d probably have more than one snake too bc let’s be real, snakes are so fun and cool.

betas:

birds! especially talkative birds! betas would love to just sit with them and have tons of conversations and teach them to say new things. imagine a beta walking around with a parrot or little parakeet or cockatiel on their shoulder? 🥺 my heart !!! their birds would only sleep in a cage at night, bc the rest of the day they’re just hanging out. they’d probably hand build them an epic cage too.

hamsters! for whatever reason i am feeling that betas would be drawn to hamsters! they are so tiny and cute. i could totally see a beta being like “psst, wanna see what i’ve got?” and pulling a hamster out of their pocket. it would totally help them attract omegas, who would be all like “OMG!!! A BABY!!! ITS SO TINY!!!!” and like... YES. also, they’d find such joy in decorating and designing a massive enclosure just for their little buddy.

rats! just like hamsters i feel like betas would just love rodents in general? rats and betas to me are a lot alike, in that they are very curious and smart, inquisitive and always wanting to know more. they also love to explore, and i could totally see a beta with their little rat buddy exploring new places. their rat would have a tiny harness and omg 🥺 !! it would just be so cute seeing them walk together and explore new things.

frogs! betas are definitely frog people, they would love making little hats for their frog and building them an awesome enclosure. they would love blogging about their frog or posting cute pictures of them on instagram! they’d probably have a whole youtube channel dedicated to their frog if i’m being entirely honest lol!

omegas:

cats! i definitely see omegas as more cat-like in general and i think they’d mesh best with kitty friends. cats are very snuggly and would appreciate a cozy nest, to be curled up at the omega’s side as they read a book or play a video game. they’re pretty laid back and don’t require as much upkeep, but for me, i find cats to be very playful and loving! they’re a little purr machine too- and when an omega and a kitty are laying together, believe me when i say they’ll definitely be purring along with each other... like how sweet is that 🥺!! omegas like to play, and i feel like cats are a good balance between playful and peaceful, which is great for an omega.

bunnies! i think omegas would also be really drawn to a cute and tiny pet that requires a lot of care. omegas like to care for others, so an animal like this which takes a lot of work would be great! plus bunnies can be really cuddly and playful too! they’d more than likely let them free roam and would take lots of pride in decorating the house for their bunny, or bunny proofing it. they’d treat them like their lil baby and take super cute pictures of their bun. also, omegas are similar to bunnies in the way of their sensitives and softness, so i think they’d just genuinely mesh well.

geckos! omegas are drawn to cute things. and what’s cuter than a gecko? or any tiny lizard as a matter of fact? i mean come on!!!! they’re so tiny and adorable! omegas love pets they can hold, so as long as their lizard doesn’t mind being held sometimes, they’re super happy with one. they might be squicked out about the bug part (for some lizards), but they still really enjoy having them as a pet. they’ll most definitely show it off. they’ll probably sit there watching the lil thing all day long with just an “owo” face, so enthralled with its cuteness and little activities.

guinea pigs! tbh i think omegas would be really comforted by those soft little squeaky noises that guinea pigs make. guinea pigs are very similar to omegas too in their shyness and such, so i think it would be easiest for a guinea pig and an omega to become friends and trust each other. their guinea pigs would be so pampered and loved, and have places to hide all over their house!

Scenting

It is quite common for an alpha to scent their mate while claiming them. They do this to let other alphas know that their mate is taken, and to stay away.

Scenting their mate, whether it be an omega, beta, or even another alpha, usually consists of the alpha rubbing their wrist, face, or hands over their mates body. This allows their scent to linger over their body and belongings.

Omegas can also scent their mates, but its usually a bit gentler and tends to be done through, hugging, cuddling, or wearing their clothes and returning them for their mate to wear.

People don’t necessarily need to be mates in order to scent each other. It’s very common for close friends and families to scent each other, but it’s with a different intent than when a mate scent marks their mate.

Sad Omegaverse anon: The Alpha didn't want to leave. (this is a fantasy story) He got badly injured and trapped in another world. He spent three years trying to get home. During those three years he actually thought the Omega HATED him (because they had had a fight right before he went missing) but in reality the Omega is just really bad at emotions (possibly early pregnancy hormones?) and was struggling to cope with the fact he was falling for a younger Alpha way "out of his league"

Here's some sad omegaverse: an alpha and an omega sleep together. Soon after, the Alpha goes missing and is presumed dead. The Omega discovers he's pregnant (a surprise because getting pregnant outside heat is pretty rare). The Omega ends up enlisting a platonic Alpha friend to help him raise his babies (triplets). Then the original Alpha returns and sees the Omega he was in love with from the start raising three babies with another Alpha. (it gets cleared up eventually but sad for now)
