A digital drawing inspired by the book cover of Breaking Dawn and the Persephone imagery of Midnight Sun. Like the original book cover, the pawn represents Bella as a human, fragile in Edward’s mind and dispensable to other vampires as a meal. The queen is meant to symbolise Bella’s transformation from human to vampire, (mirroring the Persephone imagery - from goddess of spring to queen of the underworld). I chose to swap the colours of the chess pieces that are used on the original book cover since red felt more in line with the colour of a newborn’s eyes. (It also allowed me to blood stain the pawn and the flowers so I could gradually turn the colour scheme from white to red, which fits with the themes of the first half of Breaking Dawn, given how close to death Bella was after giving birth to Renesmee).
I had initially planned to do this as a polymer clay piece using an actual fillable hourglass as I wasn’t particularly confident that I’d be able to execute this idea through a drawing or painting very well, but the hourglass was only fillable from one side so I had to shelve that idea 😅 So this took a long time to finish as I kept procrastinating (I’ve literally had this initial sketch in my notebook for over 2 months now) since I was gutted that I couldn’t do it as originally planned 😂

A digital drawing inspired by the Three Fates (Moirai) and Edward’s intense fear in Midnight Sun that Bella is a constant magnet for death/near death experiences. I used the Eclipse ribbon to symbolise the thread of Bella’s life, with the tears/frayed parts symbolising the close encounters she had with death before she became a vampire (e.g., Edward in the classroom, Tyler’s van, James’ attack, cliff jumping in New Moon, etc.), and the colour from white to bloody red to black to symbolise the danger and darkness that lies ahead.
I tried to choose different symbols for each fate, so the flowers and vines are meant to represent Clotho (who spins the thread of life), the clock face Roman numerals in the background are meant to represent Lachesis (who measures the length of life), and the pair of scissors which are about to cut the ribbon are meant to represent Atropos (who cuts and ends the thread of life).

This is a mixed media piece I made a little while ago inspired by Bella’s nightmare wedding dress in Breaking Dawn Part 1. It’s made primarily from polymer clay (chess pawn, pomegranate, flowers, veil), but also wood slices (staircase), glass beads (pomegranate seeds), and twine (cornucopia)
I took inspiration mainly from Midnight Sun and its references to Persephone, spring and Greek mythology (hence the cornucopia with decaying flowers). I also liked the idea of having the pawn and the pomegranate on separate levels to one another to represent day/night or living world/underworld

This is a Breaking Dawn Part 2 inspired chess set I made from polymer clay and two clear Perspex acrylic sheets for the board.
The process took several months both in terms of concepting and actual making 😭 Chess pieces are a pain to make and it’s hard to get them all the right proportions when you’re doing everything free hand.

A digital drawing I drew inspired by themes of New Moon. I wanted to make something related to Bella feeling like her time was ticking away as a human (represented by the tulip bleeding away through the hourglass), and feeling constantly reminded of that as a result of being surrounded by frozen, unchanging immortals (represented by the frost-covered roses). I took inspiration for the hourglass shape from the cover of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, the parrot tulip is of course inspired by the New Moon cover, and the frost-covered roses were inspired by the rose freezing over in the opening title scene of Breaking Dawn Part 2.
