Sneak Peak - Untitled Reylo Victorian AU
I am in the process of writing a Victorian AU Reylo fic! Here’s a sneak peak of the first (unedited) section:
---
Rey couldn’t get away from the shadows of her master behind every twist and turn. The pouring rain in the nighttime caused her eyes to play tricks on her– invisible hands grasped at her body as Rey stumbled breathlessly across the rural English plains. Blood rushed in her ears as she ran for her life towards anywhere, anything. A dip in the hills caused Rey to trip, sending her sprawling over the wet grass, but she immediately pushed herself upwards and onwards. She had to keep going.
Rain poured down on Rey’s thin cotton dress and soaked through her oversized boots. There hadn’t been time to cover her hair so Rey’s hair fell disheveled and loose around her shoulders, sticking to her wet and muddy face and neck. At the moment, Rey just needed to get away.
Rey’s lungs were aflame with each breath she took and her muscles screeched at her to yield. There were cuts along her knees and hands from when she jumped out of the moving carriage, only the Lord knew how long ago. Perhaps it was minutes, or hours– Rey wasn’t sure.
Despite the pain and agony, Rey slid a shivering, frozen hand into her pocket. It was still there, the smallest piece of paper that would ensure Rey’s survival…for now. The knowledge that she still held the item gave Rey a burst of determination to trudge forward. She only hoped that the rain hadn’t smudged the ink.
Despite the plethora of falling rain around her person, Rey knew she needed to find water, shelter, and food soon. It had been over a day since she last had a sip of water, and she wouldn’t be able to go much further without more.
In the distance, a large figure of a home appeared. Rey prayed to God that it was not another illusion of her weakening mind. Hope was all she had and so Rey staggered as quickly as she could in the same direction.
The grass had softened by the rain and Rey slipped through the mud towards the home. She neared so close that she could see…the outline of a horse in the stables! The grassy field turned to mud with hay as she neared the stables. Rey didn’t see the muddy hole in the ground and when she stepped upon it, it pulled at her balance, causing her to fall once more. This time, a shot of pain ran through her nerves at her ankle and Rey knew she was done for.
Rey used the remaining strength she had and pulled herself crawling underneath the stable roof. Leaning back against the wooden side, she slowly extended her leg and a cry escaped her lips when her ankle jostled the wrong way. Rey bit at her dress sleeve to quiet herself, for she couldn’t risk being discovered by the master.
With her ankle settled on the ground and her body sheltered undercover, Rey curled her arms around herself. Then, and only then, amidst the pouring rain striking the earth like firing pistols and the gently neighing horses, would she allow herself to cry to sleep.

Lightning in a Bottle │ Chapter 33
They narrowly avoided witches and wizards shuffling potions, food, and other unnamed supplies from room to room. When they made it to Leia’s room, Rey was surprised to see her already sitting up and alert in bed, scribbling on a levitated parchment in front of her. Immediately, Leia put the parchment and ink to the side and clasped her hands together in pure delight.
“Rey, my dear! Come in, come in, you two. Oh, how sweet [...]”

Lightning in a Bottle │ Chapter 32
The Auror leaning against the bookshelf cocked her head in curiosity. “You killed Snoke,” she said. It was a statement, not a question. “You must be a very skilled seventh-year to take down such a dark wizard by yourself.”
“It wasn’t just me,” Rey said automatically. “It was Ben and I– Ben Solo,” she clarified before the Aurors could ask.
Her expression perked up at the last name. “Solo? Leia’s kid?”

Lightning in a Bottle │ Chapter 30, 31
“His sense of time is approximately twenty years prior,” the Healer explains to Leia. “Upon cued recall, he can remember you and your brother, but unfortunately not your son. But, we’re hopeful that perhaps today’s visit will help him jog that part of his memory.”

Lightning in a Bottle │ Chapter 27, 28, 29
As the female Death Eater rose from their spot and immediately continued battle with Yoda, the Ravenclaw students, Rose, and Jannah together, the second dark figure turned to Rey. Their silver humanoid mask, devoid of any actual human emotion, looked as if it were staring into her soul. Rey watched as the figure removed their mask, revealing the bitter face of Ben Solo.

Lightning in a Bottle │ Chapter 26
“Why can’t I move?” Rey asked. The longer she remained immobile, the more anxious and afraid she became.
Rose smiled softly and rubbed the back of Rey’s hand. Her eyes were bloodshot and glassy from tears. “You...you completely shattered your bones, Rey. Madam Kalonia says you’ll have to mend your hip, arms, and leg bones overnight. It was too severe for a healing spell.” Tears began to stream down Rose’s face again and Rey felt a twinge of guilt.
