New Lackadaisy focused blog

Just wanted to anounce i made a new blog its @acesandocs, i will be posting my Lackadaisy art and ocs here from now on as well as reblogs. Im gonna try things out and see where it goes.

I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

They were probably having a cute date but it somehow ended up with Mau Betting Rocky he cant eat an entire polate of pasta in five minutes. I cant imagine it ended well tho.

He always seems to find his way back into a ditch

Ace was definitely the kind of kid who would constantly come home muddy no matter the weather, almost drove his grandma nuts with how often he'd mess up the carpet. For the earliest years of his life he lived with his mom in his grandparents house. It was probably the most carefree part part of his life. Even if he tended to test his grandmas patience she is probably one of his favorite people.

Don't worry about the second picture he gets better.

I thought: Máire in punk clothing vibing at a concert for a split second and passed out. When i woke up i was hunched over my art tablet and fire alpaca open with this on the canvas

If your ocs were in the modern era, what would there favorite musicians be?

So im terrible at naming musicians and such, so ill go for genre and general taste!

Marius: "whatever's on the radio", and old French music his parents would listen to. He probably likes any music that gets him pumped and has a hard beat. Willing to listen to any genre and is terrible at describing what he likes! Doesn't have a spotify or itunes, just types the song into youtube and blasts that from his cracked phone. Loves a handful of French radio stations he streams on his phone; the quality is fucked and it drains his battery but he doesnt care.

Jack: Exclusively oldies bluegrass and gospel bc thats all his parents would play. Modern pop country and christian rock confounds him. He could swear his pa said something about drums being the devil's instrument. Metal is scary until he reads the lyrics and has a small mental shutdown. Just like him fr fr... thinks Marius' French stations are incomprehensible but he says nothing bc he doesnt have a better suggestion.

Lottie: A huuuge pop girlie, as well as jazz and 90s r&b. Yes jazz is a very broad genre, but she'd like so much of it, especially more unique or weird sounds. Doesnt "get" hyperpop or tiktok music and worries she's getting old bc of that. LOVES musicals and would likely be a professional in the modern times, and if not that, she'd be in local theaters.

Eveline: Still uses cassettes and CDs, and theyre all classical, opera recordings and vocalists, mostly European. Enjoys some musicals. She thinks she's kinda up to date on modern pop music, but when you ask her what's the last pop album she listened to, she'll say Celine Dion's Falling Into You. She'd start sobbing if she got to see Natalie Dessay.

Máire: Huge punk and rock girlie, especially the Irish scene. Probably exclusively listens to punk tbh. She'd frequent the clubs and smoke too much in the corner while appearing disinterested but is actually vibing so hard w the music. Really loves making mixtapes and recordings, never got into vinyls or cds. Wants spotify to burn and die.

Malwina: LOOOVES pop and is a massive Britney Spears, Selena, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson fan. 90s-2000s pop is her favorite by far and those are the only CDs she owns. Probs has a beatup little red Ipod she's had since middle school; it was a hand me down from her oldest cousin and she treasures it even if it's "old". Queen of pirating and burning music but by god she paid for her Mariah Carey and Britney Spears cds. She wanted the pretty inserts and lyric booklets.

Slyvester: Loves a lot of swing and oldies from his parent's day, and Italian vocalists his wife adores. They played Andrea Bocelli almost exclusively at the wedding. Finds the music his sons listen to bizarre but doesn't mind the rock and alt rock too much.

When you hear an audio that kind of reminds you of your blorbo and think: maybe ill do something with that. But then its to late, you've already made an animatic with colors and a background. And you spent 5 hours finding, downloading and learning how to use a new video editing software.......

I know the quality is not great but im trying my best. Might be a bit too introspective for Jack but oh well, its the vibe that counts.

Road trip with the boys.

I drew this a while ago for fun, but i though i might as well post it since I've introduced Ace properly now. Anyone who takes a glance at my blog will know that i LOVE Under The Devil's Moon and when i play/read (i dunno what the accurate word would be) i use Ace as my mc. I have to make him Swedish wish i imagine he would not like one bit, but he'll have to deal with it 🤷‍♂️. So here are the gang but its that one meme. Wonder what happened to cause the current atmosphere in the car.

Thanks for the question @silver-heller! Its a funny story actually.

She calls it a rivalry but it's more a chronic fear/avoidance. When he was around 12 he saw an unusually big crow outside his window, and being stupidly impulsive decided he wanted to hunt it. She ended up chasing it a while aways across a lake and eventually managed to shoot it down. He did not know however, that crows can remember a face five for up to five years later. And will tell every other crow they know to hunt you on sight. He has lived in perpetual fear vigilance of crows ever since. It got so bad that her mom banned her from going near the area she killed the big crow in at night because they would start freaking out when they saw her and make it impossible for anyone who lived there to sleep. Even after moving halfway across the earth she still maintains her distrust of any dark feathered corvidae.

If you shoo away any crows around him he will love you forever, good luck getting rid of him.

Finally I have worked up the courage to share her. Introducing my Lackadaisy oc: Åse, you can call him Ace if you want. I've teased her in a previous post but i've finally gotten around to making her bio card thingy. And as previously mentioned he is an old d&d pc. He tends to show up here and there so this is just one of her many incarnations. 

Art thoughts below

The illustration it is based on this postcard and other Norwegian postcard illustrations depicting people and creatures in red winter hats and clothing. The hat in itself is called a Nisselue. The patterns on her clothes are based on different folk stories/myths. The pattern on the hem of her skirt is based on the children's story called The Foxes Widow and her mittens are based on Kråkevisa/Bonden Og Kråka and her stockings are based on a mythical creature called a Fossegrim. All of them are in a way relevant to her backstory.

The pin is based on a Maiblomst (Mayflower), a paper flower attached to a pin that is sold to raise money for charity originating in Sweden but has later been used in other countries as well. The colors change each year, this one is based on the 1915 version from Norway. 

She grew up near Kapp which is a small town on the edge of the Mjøsa river which is why I chose for her to be depicted near water.

Isn't interested in alcohol but when at parties, she drinks water in a martini glass to feel fancy

Some Ace outfits. She has such a big tail its difficult to pack it in without it taking up most of the canvas. He usually leans towards masc/androgynous clothes but sometimes if he feels like it he'll wear a dress, usually if its really warm.

Coping with the inevitable pain of whatever is going to happen to Malwina, in utdm by imagining a world where she has a normal life and goes to school and is Ivy's bff.

The initial hyperfixation has slowed down so its been a minute since last i posted. But the blorbos are still rotating around in the back of my mind. There was a week i did nothing but draw utdm in my free time lol. a while back I asked Libra who out of the main Lackadaisy cast their oc's would best get along with and for Malwina they said ivy and the thought of them hanging out hasn't left me. Maybe Ivy would take on Malwina as her project, Wicked style and give her a makeover and go shopping for some cute outfits.

Another quick doodle with simple shading but a slightly more detailed background woo!

I played around with pushing her expression further but I felt she looked a bit too despising which is not what i was going for. Evelyn's words to a family-less MC can definitely come across as cold but i don't think they were said with malice or with intention to hurt. She's stressed out, probably scared and not thinking too much about her words.

While i would be lying if i said i didn't feel a little guilty because of Evelyn's words, I am genuinely very interested in this side of her. It's cool to see what kind of situation can make a character act in opposition to their main personality traits.

I don't know if any of the stuff i described above was intentional but that's my interpretation.

I'M HAVING SO MANY JACK THOUGHTS AFTER THE LAST CHAPTER! I just need to get it out of me so here's a quick doodle with not that great shading and lighting. And some ramblings and about jack below. Character belongs to @libras-interactives

I might be projecting but Jack to me feels like a character who has either intentionally or not, been dehumanized most of his life. Which in turn makes him feel more like a monster than a person. He's been compared to a circus animal in chapter one and I think there's something to that. He's used to being stared at and gawked at like a lion in a cage, so he retreats from normal society and prefers to stay out of sight being as invisible as possible.  I hope there's a triumphant future ahead of him where he can live with himself happily.

I wanted him to come across as kind of animistic in the illustration. All the blood and clawing and spitting and growing. It isn't my best work but again i just needed to get my feelings out in some way.

He's kind of similar to my own Lackadaisy oc in many ways so I kinda wanna draw them hanging out and relating to each other over it.

Just some misc doodles, I'm excited for the chapter 2 update so I'm channeling that into art. Characters belong to @libras-interactives

In other news I'm still simping for Máire, the idea for the drawing was: you just interrupted her while she's on break, and she wants you to leave. I'm also trying out a new fur pattern that's simpler and easier to replicate. She's reading the 1922 edition of 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas'. I was to tired to trace it, to many details.

With a surprise appearance from Evelyn combing her hair and looking pensive. The vibe was when you're depressed but you still have to do basic self care like brushing your teeth and stuff but it feels just so boring and tiring. I'm still proud of her tho, doin her best!

The last one is just some exercises trying to figure out Jack’s face geometry, with a few silly ones sprinkled in.
