Giving movement more attention, refactoring all the code to be more flexible and allowing for eventual non stupid path finding for enemies.
Everything except dynamic collision avoidance works atm, static avoidance works (with a nav map), so it should be enough to avoid enemies trying to walk through walls to reach you like seen in some RPG Maker games.
Figuring out the correct math took some brain power 🤓 (and sacrifices to dark powers).
(video is the player following the mouse, but the code allows for following any array of points smoothly)

Progress showcase
Last week we promised on showcasing the things we made, and of course deadlines are there to be met. Lets start where it all starts, the title screen. I already spoiled it a little bit in the previous post but we had a genius revelation, giving birth to something incredibly satisfying to watch. here’s 22 seconds of raw goodness:

We had the dialogue system finished for quite some time but never felt like showcasing it alone, but here it is paired with a real NPC:

Godot has the very nice ability to adjust z index based on the y cord (YSort) allowing for a quite simple way of walking behind and in front of textures, you can also see the basic reflection we have going on:

Next up is scene transitions, this was quite hard to get right because there are quite a lot of moving parts to safely disable and pause before switching away to avoid crashes and hiccups, at the end you’ll also see some more dialogue with options:

The pause menu was a bitch to get right, but also came out looking real good. though I don’t consider it finished as its missing some parts to make it feel complete, but with the nice particle effect stolen from the title screen I couldn't resist showing it off.

Lastly the save system, the video speaks for itself really, currently it only loads so saves have to be made manually:

There you have it, just the fact that everything is going as it is makes me (@ImRutha) extremely happy, a lot of progress is happening with the game rewrite to Godot and I finally feel like we’re in control on what we make instead of being at the mercy of RPG Maker.
We’re still at early stages though :)

Miss KindHearted on your smart fridge? - Technical progress report
I made a lot of progress building up all the back-ends needed to make the game in Godot, things you take for granted in VX Ace like game saving and pausing; it all had to be coded from scratch. In return we get a lot of freedom in what we can do, and hopefully we will be able to share some of the things we made next week, including (but not limited to):
* Title screen + intro animation * Scene switching (Transitioning between maps) * Dialogue system * The pause menu (partial) * Saving and loading the game * Animated player sprite (As seen in earlier posts)
All UI work will come with sweet animations and transitions, of course we’re trying our best to still stay true to the rpg horror style but there will a lot of small quality of life improvements and bits that will make you go “hey that’s not rpg maker!“ like the fact that we are not using grid based movements anymore.

~Here’s a picture of the game running in the browser for no reason at all, final game will ship as binary on Windows and Linux (Maybe MacOS too)~
Future plans: I will continue programming and plan on doing more game play focused things once the UI is finalized while Wilders is creating maps and assets and will continue doing so.

Recruitment!
Hi everyone,
So this is something that is on our mind for a long time, and now, when we’re in quarantine and everyone is stuck at home, we can’t think of a better time to announce it.

We’re looking for creative and skilful volunteers who want to help with the development of Miss Kindhearted. Currently, we’re searching for people with art/pixel art skills, musical skills, coding skills, and writing/world-building skills. So if you’re talented and you want to wrap your head around something that’s called “game development”, consider this.
Don’t worry if you don’t have experience with these kinds of things. This is just (like most things in life) a learning process. This project has been started out of love and passion for RPG games, and our main goal is just to have fun and create something we all can be proud of. There are no big rules or schedules, we’re just working when we can (I know better than anyone how it feels to have no time).

Goodbye RPG maker
So we’ve decided to switch from RPG maker VX ace to Godot. Not only does this give us way more freedom, but it also saves us a lot of time. 
We spent a lot of time working around RPG maker limitations, and this decision will make some stuff much easier. However, we keep most of the gameplay the same. The idea was to make a (2D, indie) RPG horror game, and we will stick to that idea.
 Aside from the changes, you can expect more and better puzzles and events, so stay tuned for updates.

Just a small wip from a map to break the inactivity. As usually we're still working on the game, only the progress is a bit slow because I'm busy with school (school ia always the best excuse). I'm sure when things settle down you can expect more posts and activity on this blog (-_-;)
