May 10th at 8:04pm, I lost the love of my life.
My beloved little monster, Zoe, passed away in my arms in the vet’s office as she was experiencing congestive heart failure.
Zoe and I had 17 years together full of adventures that crossed state lines and international borders. I have a million stories about her and the stuff she has done.
I have been heart-broken every day without her.

I know I had said I was going to utilize this Tumblr account properly and consistently. I seemed to have fallen off the mark a bit.
A lot has been going on, but I’ll be posting more again now.

Dischord 200 - The First Six
I purchased this on pre-order in May of 2021 and after a number of factors delaying its production, it finally arrived! Only the pre-orders were manufactured and none made for general public purchase which has made this an instant collector item. Discogs has it listed for over $300 CAD.

It’s that time of year again…
My personal Instagram feed is all sponsored ads from other tattoo artists trying to fill their books.
I am visually aware of my competition now. Before it was just knowing of the many shops in my city, but now I’ve counted over 150 artist sponsored ads from Toronto to Windsor.
I am already looking into moving East to avoid the over-saturation and lower rent prices.

Went to Rock’N Tees this morning while waiting on Wink to open (I needed some nostril rings) and I found this sick ass Misfits poster for the shop. I also found a few others that now need frames for them. It should kill some of the blank wall space that currently exists.

On Valentine’s Day, my wife’s pappy passed away.
I spent the entire day trying to keep her distracted so she didn’t cry. We even closed the shop early so she could be free with her emotions.
She asked if I could drive us around the city. We stopped at Walmart to grab dog food for the beags. While we were there, I grabbed the Ghostbusters 1, 2, & Afterlife on blu-ray to possibly watch later.
We got home and that evening I went to throw Afterlife in. I immediately made a connection… my wife’s grandfather’s ghost fell out that morning and it was in bad taste to watch as ghosts are captured. So we watched something else.
Fast forward to today.
We got some BBQ and watched Afterlife. The movie was good and all, but when Egon shows up to help his granddaughter… that would have hit Tonja harder if we had watched it on Monday.
I still hate Finn Wolfhard.

Tattoo Shops Are Rock Bands, Essentially.
Hear me out. I’ll explain…
Running a tattoo shop is just like being the founder of a band. You come up with the name and the vibe. You then start your journey to your dream. Along the way other people join your group and soon enough you are all working together to reach the collective dream.
After a while, though, egos start to form. Everyone feels that they are the core of the group. Pretty soon there are divides happening and rumours start being whispered about.
Before you know it, the members of this group start joining other groups or trying to start their own group.
Then you start replacing the missing members and reforming the group and continue to work towards the dream again.

Bad Brains (aka The Yellow Tape or Attitude: The ROIR Sessions) 1982

I don’t know what ever happened to my copy of this album I had on CD in high school, but a few decades later and I finally reacquired it on vinyl for my collection.

Stone Temple Pilots “Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop”

I went and got a copy of Stone Temple Pilot’s 3rd album “Tiny Music… Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop” (25th anniversary super deluxe edition).
After dinner, I put it on the record player and mixed my first drink of the evening. I got to thinking about where I was in 1996 and the feelings from back then. (Any time I listen to the albums from my youth, I’m awash in memories and it feels like time travel.)
This album was a shift in sound and style for the band. It was post-grunge, post-punk, and pro-glam. It was an evolution. Unfortunately, it was their last album that appealed to me. Instead of a steady evolution, the albums which followed just never grabbed me.
