Generation Raised on HP
Tumblr media
Every day I hate Hermione more and find her fans more and more disgusting.
It's frightening to see the generation that JKR helped to raise.

I love picturing Severus as the most caring head of house! We even see in canon how much the baby snakes love him. So cute!
One of my favourite headcanons is that Severus is only viewed as Bastard dungeon bat by Harry and co. But to everyone else like the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws he’s just the hardass but effective teacher, and to the Slytherins he’s Slytherin House Dad.

To be fair, Cho was crying during that kiss and I doubt many people would found that sexy.
Maybe it would be a sweet moment if the couple was together a long time and the kiss was one of comfort and reassurance. But as a first kiss? Esp for someone like Harry who was not super empathetic in year 5? Massive yikes.

Quite honestly I have to say that I actually really like Aang. Him being a happy-go-lucky, sweet kid is extremely important to the story, as bringing back a sense of fun to the people who have been experiencing war for so long is basically his narrative purpose. There's a purpose behind his personality, just as there should be in any narrative. However, I think anyone who engages critically with media has to aknowledge that he makes some bad decisions, especially when it comes to his treatment of Katara at the end of season three. Although I would personally argue that this is sexist writing and not congruent with the Aang we have seen for the entirety of the show leading up to DoBS (although people are also right when they point out the amount of emotional labor his position as the grand hero of the story and as a rather immature kiddo put on Katara), these are still mistakes that the character canonically makes. His treatment of Katara in previous seasons is still toxic behavior that I would argue is actually congruent with his character. The mistakes he makes throughout the series in other areas, such as hiding their father's location from Sokka and Katara, are canon decisions the character makes that are also definitely congruent with his character. But for whatever reason, a lot of the fandom refuses to recognize this. Most Aang/ Kat@ang stans put Aang on a pedestal and argue that nothing he's done throughout the series is exactly wrong. Nothing was wrong in his treatment of Katara, and if it is, he's naturally extremely sorry about it and should be forgiven despite the fact that we see no expression of guilt or remorse from him for, what I believe is the most glaring example, the EIP noncon kiss. So again, to restate, I don't hate Aang. I've never hated Aang. I like Aang. But unfortunately, because of the fandom representation of him, I have no interest in engaging in fan content about him. I have no interest in talking about the good things he does or the great decisions he makes outside of his decision not to kill Ozai, which, although greatly contested in the fandom, I completely agree with because of the narrative significance of Aang choosing to stick to his beliefs and the overarching theme of mercy, which we also see built up in many previous episodes such as TSR. Aang is the character that I would argue has been corrupted the most by the fandom. He's either viciously hated or hoisted into a position of perfection and frankly, I can deal with neither. Aang is a good character, but we should be able to have conversations critical of his actions. Aang is an extremely flawed and relatively underdeveloped character, but he is by no means evil incarnate, and I just wish that more people could recognize that both of those statements should and do coexist.

While I like Anidala, I am not too fond of the age gap either, mostly in AoTC. While the gap between HanLeia is larger, there may be reasons why it's not as icky you could say:
Double standards for age gaps
It's usually more romantic for the man to be older in the relationship. It's a better indicator that he is a leader, provider and protector. Women don't usually want men who are younger than them.
When the couples met
Han and Leia met as adults. Padme met Anakin as a child and she was way more mature than the average 14-year-old girl. She had a sweet big sister vibe going on.
Emotional maturity
Han is cocky but both he and Leia have about the same maturity level despite her younger age. Anidala began their whirlwind romance when both were adults and Padme is definitely as passionate and reckless as Anakin. But ATC!Anakin feels so...boyish. In some ways, he still seems like a child. I have compared Anakin marrying Padme to a college guy marrying a career woman. It makes me a bit uncomfortable sometimes.
Anidala is great but the circumstances are not ideal.

So I got some valid feedback in the comments. Not sure if the user blocked me or something else happened to their blog but let me say this here.
This post was written by a moody me late at night. While I stand by what I said, it was not my intention to use low class as a dehumanizing term or to merely insult the Weasleys. I have no knowledge of low class being used this way. This is coming from someone who grew up basically poor.
My intention was just to say that I think the Weasley family lacks decorum if that phrasing is less offensive.
Bookstore scene: The tale of the 2 manbabies
First of all, let me preface with this: to me, the Weasleys are low class. Not in terms of wealth but in terms of how they carry themselves. Someone can be poor and carry themselves with poise and elegance. And someone rich can act as if they belong in the gutter with the riff-raff. In Jamaica, we say this saying by Professor Rex Nettleford "A butu in a Benz is still a butu".
This is not me saying the Weasleys are a horrible family (not the best either) or that the Malfoys are saints. I just hate the conduct of the Weasleys in general. I have seen some people on Tumblr praise how they act but I am not one of them.
Like father, like son - Reacting with physical violence when provoked by words
“Not as surprised as I am to see you in a shop, Weasley,” retorted Malfoy. “I suppose your parents will go hungry for a month to pay for all those.” Ron went as red as Ginny. He dropped his books into the cauldron, too, and started toward Malfoy, but Harry and Hermione grabbed the back of his jacket.
“Clearly,” said Mr. Malfoy, his pale eyes straying to Mr. and Mrs. Granger, who were watching apprehensively. “The company you keep, Weasley . . . and I thought your family could sink no lower —” There was a thud of metal as Ginny’s cauldron went flying; Mr. Weasley had thrown himself at Mr. Malfoy, knocking him backward into a bookshelf. Dozens of heavy spellbooks came thundering down on all their heads; there was a yell of, “Get him, Dad!” from Fred or George; Mrs. Weasley was shrieking, “No, Arthur, no!”; the crowd stampeded backward, knocking more shelves over; “Gentlemen, please — please!” cried the assistant, and then, louder than all —
Props to Arthur for lasting longer, I guess. Barely. How embarrassing, starting a fight in front of children in a public area like a hormonal teenage boy. Molly said it best:
“A fine example to set for your children . . . brawling in public . . . what Gilderoy Lockhart must’ve thought —”
It's not an admirable trait for a man to be so quick to use his fists to solve conflicts. It may sound romantic but it's an express ticket for your man to end up in jail.
Two men acting like children
Also, look here:
“Well, well, well — Arthur Weasley.” It was Mr. Malfoy. He stood with his hand on Draco’s shoulder, sneering in just the same way.
Arthur is such a wonderful family man that he launched himself at Lucius while he was standing near his preteen son. He could have hurt Draco in the scuffle. The cynical part of me thinks Arthur doesn't give a damn if a child was hurt in the process of him acting like a teenage punk.
And why is Lucius wasting his time mocking the Weasleys? Does he not have better things to do? He's not exactly teaching his son proper manners either.
Just look at this man baby:
He was still holding Ginny’s old Transfiguration book. He thrust it at her, his eyes glittering with malice. “Here, girl — take your book — it’s the best your father can give you —” Pulling himself out of Hagrid’s grip he beckoned to Draco and swept from the shop.
Throwing books at a little girl like Lucius isn't a grown-ass man. Exiting the scene like a humiliated highschool mean girl. No wonder Draco is like this. Goodness.

Will forever be salty that Harry inherited the Black fortune! Harry already has his Potter fortune! The injustice!
Remember when the laws of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black let it's disowned last male heir's half-blood godson inherit most of the family fortune, including their ancestral home, instead of the eldest great-great-grandchild of Phineas Nigellus Black, who was a woman?
Because I do and it makes my blood boil.

Harry only won because of deux ex machina. Harry was never Voldemort's equal. Harry should have been killed long ago.
can we stop pretending like harry was voldemort's true equal? like, if it wasn't for the 'love protection' and the twin wand cores, harry would have been crushed like a cockroach.

I am like, nothing short of absolutely disgusted at Bryke's portrayal of Katara in the comics and TLOK???
And apparently a majority of the audience is okay with this portrayal??
Just a recap:
This is Katara
Tumblr media
A girl with severe abandonment issues because her mom was murdered by a Fire Nation soldier and soon after her dad left to fight in the war, leaving her alone to take care of her brother and the village.
This is Aang
Tumblr media
A boy with chronic running away issues. This fault of his has led to a war extending up to 100 years causing death and destruction all around the world.
Katara does not acknowledge this fault of his because she idolises him as the Avatar but still his actions hurt her. A lot.
Tumblr media
Katara: It's not brave, it's selfish and stupid! We could be helping him and I know the world needs him, but doesn't he know how much we need him, too? How can he just leave us behind?
Logically speaking, a person with abandonment issues should never be with a person who has a tendency to run away from their issues. But Aang and Katara get together anyway.
But then the comics happen.
Literally anyone who cared about Katara as a character of her own (and not just as Aang's love interest) was infuriated at how she was portrayed. She was stripped of all her autonomy and characterization and was made into "The Avatar's Girlfriend". Nothing of her own.
Some people actually call this relationship sweet. Yuck.
But the thing is, it has panels like this:
Tumblr media
Katara, the girl with abandonment issues looks— that's right, abandoned and forgotten.
Even if the "abandonment issues" angle is thrown out of the window, the above panel from Katara's pov is a very unhealthy and shitty experience. (I can vouch with personal experience)
When you clearly don't have anyone else and the one person who you completely dedicate yourself to is completely avoiding you in favour of other people who don't really matter that much just because it makes them feel better/superior, how lonely and abandoned does that make you feel?
Also this sort of behaviour is undeniably selfish and self centred.
This problem of "Aang paying more attention to fangirls" exists in the show as well but atleast Aang corrects his behaviour or accepts that it was incorrect. The comics however:
Tumblr media
Katara, who was abandoned, ignored and lonely in this entire comic is reasonably upset about this. But instead of the comic validating her feelings, it makes her feel guilty???
What the fuck??
If this isn't a fulfilment of the male fetish of gfs/wives putting their own mental issues and feelings on a back bench just for the sake of the man's hApPineSs, then what is this?
Not to mention this fetish is pretty disgusting.
This is what young kids are supposed to learn form the comics?
This is harmful for boys AND girls.
But sure couple goals and soulmates or whatever.
Moving on,
The very existence of LOK!Katara is just—
Like what—?
This definitely isn't the Katara I know and love.
Katara, who was completely devastated by her mother's death but got her shit together immediately and seamlessly slipped into the role of her mother and was so damn good at it that her elder brother could conveniently use his coping mechanism to supress their mother's memories with Katara's instead.
You're telling me this same girl grew up to be a sad old lonely widow who spent her days and nights wallowing in the grief of the death of her husband—
Bullshit.
That's straight up romanticization of "life is nothing without you" trope where the wife just becomes a non-functional person after the death of her husband. That, and Bryke not giving a shit about Katara's character.
There's the evident drama of Aang ignoring his two other kids in favour of the Airbending one; leaving Katara with the other two kids. Just like how she was left alone in charge of things as a child.
And then there's this:
Tumblr media
They actually take the time to show us that Katara is sad and lonely and abandoned??
What family does she have left at the South pole? None.
And yet, people manage to think Katara is perfectly fine and happy.
Katara, a person with severe abandonment issues spends her entire life being abandoned??
What the fuck Bryke?
Like, it's pretty clear that they didn't give two shits about Katara as a character; she was just supposed to be a pretty arm candy for the Hero™ with some handy dandy waterbending abilities.
But if other people have done a spectacular job of turning this cardboard character into a fully fleshed out, multi dimensional character, why would you throw it away??
Like, that's just dumb.
Why would they take an infinite number of steps back to turn Katara back into a cardboard character and fulfil romanticized misogynistic tropes?
Much wow, many thanks.

My top twenty Sirius moments
1. When he manages to seem bored in Azkaban and says he misses doing the crossword.
2. When he takes time out of his busy murder plot to buy Harry a new broom, via his finance manager/personal assistant Crookshanks.
3. His friendship with Crookshanks #squadgoals
4. When he thinks it’s a good idea to break into a dorm full of sleeping teenagers and try and stab a rat in the dark. Homeboy is verrry confident about his knife skills .
5. “There’s enough filth on my robes without you touching them Peter.” Ahh Sirius you sassy icon.
6. Also ‘If you made a better Rat then Human that’s nothing to boast about Peter.’ Le sass is strong.
7. Mr Padfoot would like to register his astonishment that an idiot like that ever became a Professor. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 perfection
8. When he sends post via tropical birds, for dramatic effect.
9. When he really leans into the criminal thing and breaks into someone’s house to use the fire ( I hope he stole some food).
10. When he basically figures out the entire GoF plot using scrounged newspapers. He’s an incredibly astute person and it’s tragic he never got to hunt Horcruxes (it would have taken him a few days).
11. The chapter Padfoot returns should be renamed ‘Wizarding world tea with Sirius Black.’ He legit had the receipts on everyone.
12. When he sends Harry a muddy pawprint as a good luck gift (be still my beating heart).
13. When Padfoot growls at Fudge while in the hospital wing. Despite being a wanted criminal who is front of the man that could have him arrested, no one insults Harry in front of Sirius.
14. When he gets bitten by something in Grimmauld place and spends a moment studying his hand in an interested way. Ahhhh he had such a sharp mind that clearly loved working things out.
15. Padfoot chasing pigeons on the way to King’s Cross.
16. God rest ye Merry Hippogriffs. I need a Sirius Black Christmas carol remix album in my life.
17. How he still looks hot while taking an exam. Trust me this is a special gift- I normally look like I haven’t slept in a week and have caffeine shakes.
18. ‘ Reading between the lines, I’d say she thinks you’re a bit conceited, mate.’ The books needed more sassy/sarcastic Sirius.
19. When he put santa hats on the elf heads, and singlehandly created the ultimate emo xmas decor.
20. His room being covered in motorcycle pictures. I’d like to think that muggle Sirius would definitely have a motorcycle themed tumblr.

Toph is often seen very close to Appa and Momo in ATLA. Momo in particular is seen almost exclusively on her shoulder, in her lap or cuddled up close to her after she joins the Gaang. It's such a sweet little inclusion but it means the world to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's nothing extraordinarily big but the thought that Aang's closest link to the Air Nomads are so comfortable and keen on Toph makes me want to sob.
I also headcanon that Aang realizes his feelings for Toph go beyond platonic when he watches his Earthbending Master cuddled up into Appa's paw with Momo in her arms and she looks so beautiful and at peace and he has a moment of realization strike him like lightning.
ALSO LOOK AT AANG'S SMILE IN THIS PIC!!!My man is in love!

Jily shippers/stans are so delusional. Have to literally twist canon to support this farce of a ship. Lily and James are basically NPCs who are there to get Lily knocked up so Harry can be born. And die so Harry can be special. Just admit that and move on.
Friendly reminder that Lily initially rejected both James and Severus. James responded by maturing and stopping the bullying that had made Lily hate him. Severus responded by joining the extremist group intent on slaughtering muggle borns.

Poor Ron! LOL, Draco has such fun scenes with Harry and Ron! Can't say the same for Hermione...
It's so funny how Snape enabled Draco's obnoxious behaviour :). Draco is such a mini drama king! I bet my baby loved having Ron as his servant ha!

Dear canon shippers
Just because you can't appreciate subtext and beautiful narrative themes, it does not make fanon shippers delusional. It just makes you blind. And probably boring too if you think shipping should be solely based on canon. Some of us don't kiss the creator's backside and want better than the terrible canon ships shoved in our faces.

Preach!
Friendly reminder that:
Tonks did nothing wrong. She just fell in love with a man. Stop bashing her because of your toxic puppyship that was never going to happen anyway.
The Weasleys—besides Molly—treated Percy like absolute shit, especially Fred and George. “Abandoning” your family because said family never acts like they care about you and never shows you the appreciation you deserve even after you got the job of your dreams is NOT a bad thing. Most of you hate him because you know damn well you’d do the exact same thing if you were in his shoes.
People who love Snape aren’t “Snape apologists,” you guys just can’t handle the fact that about 99% of your so-called arguments can be debunked by canon facts and quotes.
Cho Chang is not a “crybaby” or “weak.” She had just lost her wonderful boyfriend and was having a hard time dealing with her grief. Yes, playing with Harry’s feelings was wrong, but she was going through a lot of different emotions. She was just a hormonal 15/16 year old. You would all go crazy and call her heartless had she just immediately gotten over Cedric’s death.
Ron was not “abusive” to Hermione, he was a jerk to her sometimes and he’s wrong for that, but he always regretted it. If anything, it’s Hermione who’s abusive. She was the one who sent raging canaries (which were described as “golden bullets” btw) at him which left him bleeding, and punched him all over when he returned in DH. Had Ron been the one who did all this, you all would give him hell for that (and rightfully so).
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
