So a white woman was recently caught on camera calling a 5 year old the n-word multiple times at a playground, and then used it a few more times when confronted by an adult. She also said if the 5 YEAR OLD CHILD didn't want to be called the n-word "he should have been acting like one"

Now she's set up a gofundme FOR ONE MILLION DOLLARS to "protect her family" which has been picked up by the right-wing podcast circuit and has attracted the exact kind people you think. Donating amounts like $1488 and calling bipoc "savages" and "animals", straight up reciting the 14 words, and quoting MLK Jr as a backhanded justification.

Remember a time when saying a racial slur even in the past was ground for at the very least social scorn? Now people like this feel emboldened. I feel like it's only going to get worse.

This was on the same day that the Trump administration ended school desegregation in Louisiana

This can't go on. I don't know what needs to be done and I don't think anyone else does either, but you cannot allow your country to backslide into racism. Now is the most important time in recent history to be anti-racist in the USA. Speak up.

And don't let people gaslight you into thinking they're "not actually racist" if they support shit like this.

Moderates also just understand that most problems are more nuanced than people want to realize and the solutions are usually deeply complicated on multiple levels.

People often assume that people who are politically moderate just don't have any strong opinions about anything but in many cases, it's because moderates (correctly) understand that most people on either extreme are, to phrase it in several ways, stupid as shit, extremely regarded, and their brains are as smooth as an egg.

I'd love to know how Trump supporters are able to look past shit like this. It's so beyond baffling. This isn't even anywhere near the worst shit the administration is doing, but this single event is so embarrassing on its own that it's just insane.

Do you call this punching back? This was murder. And 35 other people were injured in the process. He wasn't justified in doing this in your opinion, was he? Maybe that's our disconnect. You called it punching back. That certainly sounds like justifying.

I've gotta ask, did anyone punch him or anyone at the rally? How many people were punched? How many were even threatened?

Let's not even forget that the Unite the Right rally was essentially an actual neo-Nazi rally. I realize that being a neo-Nazi and a Republican as a Venn diagram is getting closer to being a circle, but this was not always the case. This was not a center right gathering. This was multiple fascist and neo-Nazi groups gathering to chant shit like "Jews will not replace us".

You are done. You're right about that. Somehow, people like you, despite being reasonably intelligent people... your curiosity about what's happening in the world ended. A narrative persuaded you. It happened to me too. It's the easiest thing in the world to fall into. But please, listen to reason. Think about what you're saying.

The people at a neo-Nazi rally... that's who you're defending right now. That's whose actions you're justifying. I get that human beings feeling threatened due to their speech... it feels wrong. But these people are literally fascists and neo-Nazis. We put murderers and rapists in prison. Nobody feels bad about it.

You are willing to sacrifice the safety of minority groups for the free speech of neo-Nazis. That's not freedom to me. I'll defend the people making fascists feel unsafe every day of the week over the fascists in question "punching back" by killing innocent people.

And maybe that's the greatest irony of your position. You're okay with political violence. You're clutching your pearls over it, but you've justified it already, whether you want to think you have or not.

They're 9 years old, you don't teach 9 year olds violence as a first reaction and you don't reward them for using violence as a first reaction either.

While I wasn't raised in a strictly atheist household, my father is what some refer to as an apatheist (atheist purely due to apathy) and my mother is agnostic. I was baptised in the Catholic church, but that was purely because my mother's family was Catholic. My Catholic journey begins and ends at baptism, which I obviously don't even remember, because I was a baby.

We celebrated Christian holidays, but it was purely secular. It was Santa Clause. It was the Easter Bunny. None of these had anything to do with Jesus, and everything to do with just having fun and celebrating for no real reason. Jesus was reduced to a character that was sometimes referenced in a holiday cartoon.

So yeah, I can't say I'm like... a gold star atheist, to put it as weirdly as I possibly can. I was born into a family that just doesn't care about religion at all. I'm sort of in between.

I'm kind of jealous of people who are born into atheism. A lot of baggage is totally avoided there. Hopefully I didn't take away from the point of this post. I dunno why it made me wanna tell my whole childhood story lol.

I suspect it is hard, even in current year, for many persons of faith to reckon that atheism is not just a personal set of beliefs or an act of individual rebellion. They are challenged to accept that there are entire atheist families with atheist traditions and atheist values, handed down generations. That atheist are not necessarily afloat in, and saturated by, the mores of the dominant host culture. That these second-, third-, or fourth-generation atheists don't believe in nothing, but rather that they are the honest heritors of a culture of supernatural skepticism.

Yeah, a culture. There just aren't many banger holidays.
